ewu vs. georgetown...in portland

For GTown fans that question Harvey going down. Look at the video above and you can clearly see he rolled his ankle after the bump knocked him off the balance...an ankle he's been nursing and that kept him out several games.

I think that was one of the most agregious no-calls I have seen in quite a while in college basketball. I mean, wtf was he doing, exactly?

I do, however, lay some with your coach, JT III. The play was happening right in front of him and he made no effort to call it off. Clearly based on his post game comments, he had little respect for our coach, our program, and likely our players. Given the huge disparity in resources, he should have more but I suspect that he was quite pleased with his player and the dunk.

Finally, I'm not sure what the hell a coach is supposed to say when they are asked about how they expect a big game to play out... It's a no win situation, right? I want the coach of the team I root for to say they're going to win and if they're a huge underdog I want him to be emphatic. If the opposition is so thin skinned that they need it for motivation, so be it. I certainly don't want him to say shucks we don't stand a chance and we're just happy to be here. It worked for Lou Holtz because he always did it and everyone knew he didn't believe it or mean it. Given how poorly your coach has prepared his team for the tournament in recent years, maybe it did help motivate your team in a way that The Third clearly can't but if Coach H is asked in the future whether his team is going to win, I hope his answer is always, YES, I guarantee it!

We are simply not going to agree on a number of things.

One closing comment that I will make. You will not find a classier coach in the country than JT3. If you find that something he said to be out of line, you can rest assure the breach to which he is responding was in his opinion egregious.

From a game theory perpective, what your coach did to motivate his team on the Jim Rome show was ill-advised. He even acknowledged to the sideline reporter who shared during the game....either the public forgets about the fact I guaranteed a win if we lose or I look like a hero for doing it. As much as it may affected his team.....it affected the Hoyas as much, if not more.

But hey....if you like losing games keep guaranteeing victories.

I wonder if Utah will come out in any type of a press early in the game tonight. When an undersized team like the EAGS can press and rattle the Hoyas, it seems like that would be a potential strategy of the Utes. Georgetown wasn't prepared for the EAGS press. I would expect a Georgetown coaching staff to have them more prepared. I guess Hayford and his coaching staff out coached the Georgetown staff in that respect. The EAGS just didn't capitalize on offense late in the game to close out a comeback.

I mean hey, if that's what it takes for JTIII to get his team motivated for an NCAA Tournament game, the comments from a 13th seeded team. Seems like John Thompson the Lesser isn't that great of a motivator. Guy couldn't handle a full court press that he had to of known was coming, against a team like EWU that hardly pressed during the season, and wasn't all that great at it.

SE-174,
I had to laugh when I read your response to the lost of Gtown. Saw where two young men who signed with EWU. Michael Wearne 6'1'176 pounds, from Austr., and Rico Nuno 6'8" from Diablo Community College. Have a great Sunday. Vic Wallace

I think we'll have a solid team again next year. The biggest thing that concerns me is low post defense. We only have one guy on the team that is taller than 6'9, and he doesn't play much. We really need big Fred to make some serious strides in the off season so he can be more of a contributor next season. :twocents:

Just one quick comment, because we're now both in the off season. On the Trawick hit on Harvey - for whatever it's worth, having watched Jabril play for four years, I don't think he was intending to punch your guy. He is a fiery player, and will often pound his chest after an emotional play. See one example here:

http://i.minus.com/iDXo7lqIzoRYC.gif" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

What I'm guessing (and it is, after all, only a guess), is that he was attempting to do this, and got caught up with Harvey in the way. If nothing else, if he was going after Harvey intentionally, it's a very odd swing he did for that. I imagine that's what the refs saw when they called no foul (and in particular, no flagrant).

With that said, there was obvious contact, regardless of intention, so I do think some kind of a foul was warranted, and I'm not defending the fact that he made contact with an opponent. But I do think it's worth noting that he probably wasn't trying to lay the dude out.

Best of luck next season.
