ewu vs. georgetown...in portland

Well, well..the Eagles have something very much in common with Georgetown. Both teams beat Indiana this year!

We need to exploit Smith at 6'10" 250lbs. If he tries to match up with a Venky on the perimeter , Venky should blow by him. When Venky is out of the game, OG and Blizzard should be able to rain threes at will. If he steps out on them we should have lanes to the hoop all day with our bigs driving to the hoop. We need to let the ball fly. If this turns into a slow Princeton style game like Georgetown wants it to, the eags could be in trouble. We need to keep the game in the 70s or 80s.

Rafter, he is 350 pounds. I really want to see some video of him.

Yes, you are correct. My fingers can type faster than my mind can think. I did mean to list him as
350 lbs.

Beautiful news. Just checked ESPN.com and they have the game time set for 6:57 PM Thursday evening. Love the primetime slot and won't have to worry about missing any of the game due to work.

So pumped!

From the Rafters....
go eags!

Are you sure about that start time? That would be wonderful. I was praying for a late game as I have meetings all day but should be finished up by 6:00pm.

I'll miss the earlier games, but I should have no problem making it to the Moda Center by 7:00.

I found that info on our ESPN webpage. It says 9:57 PM ET on Tru TV at the top. Here's the link. Check it out.

Could not have been at a better time. EWU plays thursday games at 6pm during conference play. Perfect. I'll make it home from work in time.

It's accurate... now being reported in Portland that we're the nightcap following Utah's game. Thank God. That's probably the only timeslot that allows me to attend.

Get'er done for us Dopa!!! Eags will leave all they have on the court and I expect you to leave your voice in the stands. Anyone know what our alumi numbers are in Portland? I would imagine that we have quite a few in the area that will represent.

We always bring about 2,500 or more when we play Portland State in football in Portland. While tickets don't cost much for those games, the weather is usually horrific. I'd have to assume we could get equal or better numbers into the Moda Center. I suspect we'll unload our allotment, although I don't know how great our numbers of tickets from open inventory will be bought. I assume we'd be a pick of a good number of neutrals as well owing to our proximity to Portland and underdog status.

To be expected. Their Message board making fun of the fact that we are a directional school and that there are only 30 posts on this thread. blah blah blah.

I would expect a lot of brackets will have us getting the upset simply because of their past performance.

Am I confident in our team? Yes. Do I doubt the fight and heart in our guys? No. We are the underdogs, but we've been there before. One thing I do know is that our guys will not give in and GTown better hope they can stop our shooters. Which means anyone Hayford puts on the floor.

I might be going, I hope they offer student prices like they did in Missoula, $100 is pretty expensive for my college budget lol

I'm sure they will try to stop Harvey cause that's all anyone can talk about on ESPN or any other network when they talk about the eags. They are in for a rude awakening if they think Harvey is all we have. We can put five guys on the floor that can all light you up. Eags are third in the nation in scoring and 20th in FG% and will be going into this one with some serious confidence. I love this matchup for the eags!!!

From the Rafters....
go eags!

I know quite a bit about this team. D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera is a pretty tough guard that is an NBA type, but he's only 6'3" and our guards will match up well with him. My biggest concern is Josh Smith. He is a load. He started his career at UCLA and will present big matchup problems for us. But this team is ripe for the upset. I just think we will outscore them plain and simple.
Totally forgot that is where Smith ended up. Remember him from his days at Meridian MS. He had a tough time at UCLA....very inconsistant.

Joshua Smith from Kent Wa, Senior 6'10" at 350 lbs. I remember him at UCLA. Very inconsistent but had really good hands and a soft touch. Maybe he has changed but he was in horrible shape and simply could not move up and down the floor. So, Jois only gives up a couple inches and should be able to take him on the dribble. If we are hitting 3's and spreading the ball around with good passing I think we have a great chance to win this game.

I saw that as well. It's the same condescending crap we always hear from Montana fans on eGrizz. Poking fun at our facilities, online forums, and that we are a regional comprehensive university. In my opinion, that just makes each and every victory that much better. We're earning these victories with that much more of a handicap. Regarding Montana, we have consistently been victorious against them in basketball and football at home and in Missoula... So in the end, none of that shi^ matters. What matters in the end is how good we are on the field and court. They can take their elitist approach but in the end they will just keep losing to a school that they look down on... And for me personally, that would be depressing as hell.

The guys that are being real on their site are talking about how they struggle vs teams that spread you out and hit threes. Hmmmmmm.

They are definitely a solid team, but they have holes. Doesn't sound like Josh Smith wants to guard anyone on the perimeter. They only shoot 34% as a team from 3-point land and only have one guy that's made over 30 three's. It's a common sense gameplan if you ask me. We have 4 guys that have made over 40 three's at a high percentage and that doesn't even include Bliz who shoots 56% from downtown. They will try to take the three away from us but we've got guys that can take you to the hole.

go eags!

That's what IU thought and Brandon kept beating them off the dribble and getting easy layups. This won't be easy, but it can be done.

I think Hayford's going to force them to beat us outside. If they can beat us from downtown then hat's off to them. 34% DON'T LIE. I think they're going to see a lot of zone and then we push the ball on the break and get Smith huffin and puffin. Lot's and lot's and lot's and lot's and lot's of transitions threes. Sounds like they don't like that style too much.
