EWU vs. Montana gamethread

This game will make or break our season. So many intriguing factors that play into it.

~How will the red turf affect the visiting team?
~Will the coaching regime change (and subsequent offensive scheme change) affect the Griz (like it did EWU in 2008, despite Baldwin being very familiar with the program and it's players)?
~Will EWU show up? We generally play better on the road than at home, especially against the Griz.
~Both teams will enter the game ranked in the top 25 (as long as we don't choke against CWU).
~First game ever on red turf.
~First FCS level game for BLM. Is he the real deal?

Can't wait!

Saw this http://www.egriz.com/grizboard/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=43630 over on Egriz. Does the school really inflate the prices radically for the Montana game?

MISSOULA, Mont. -- The University of Montana says the NCAA has granted another year of athletic eligibility to former cornerback Jimmy Wilson, who was acquitted of murder in the June 2007 shooting death of his aunt's boyfriend.

Wilson was jailed in California for two years until he was acquitted last July. He asked UM to petition the NCAA to restore his senior season. The NCAA reached its decision late last week, and Wilson plans to join the team again this fall.

Wilson was a three-year starter in 2004-06. He says he's thankful for the opportunity to further his education and compete for the school again.

Montana football coach Robin Pflugrad says Wilson has shown tremendous courage and strength of character over the past three years.

Wilson is back..dang it. I'm sure UM's coaching staff has kept a watchfull eye on him the last three years and are secure in their decision to bring him back as they don't need a pr nightmare...none of us do.

Well maybe one of the years... I think LA County corrections officers kept watch during the other two. ;)

It'll be fun to watch him try to catch Taiwan after he slips past the LBs and puts on the afterburners. :)

Get your UM tickets now. Need to belong to the Eagle Athletic Association but our die hard fans are all EAA members. Call 509-359-6208 to join the EAA or donate more to EWU athletics. Every dollar counts. See you September 18 get your tickets now before the first game on the new turf sells out.

Also, does anyone know how yards per carry Taiwan averages on turf during his EWU career? He looked good at Qwest Field last year. Can't wait to see him run on turf every home game.

I wish they would still play the game in Joe Albi stadium. much more tickets available. but i suppose thats the reason they moved it back to cheney

I wish dumb asses like you would quit thinking your $hi+ didn't stink and stayed on your own site. Doesn't it get embarrassing when you realize that not even half of your team is from the state of Montana?! Not much to be proud of when you can't even put together a team with your own boys now, is it?!

Im not sure how we got onto recruiting but because you brought it up! ok! on Montana's current roster they have 37 players from the state of Montana. and you also have to remember that the population of the state of Montana is a fraction of what Washington is. they have to get players from somewhere. they cant just take Montana players. dont be miffed because the griz get more talent out of Washington than EW does. oh and last i checked football was about winning, not seeing how many players you can get from your home state so you can be super duper proud of them.

Should be a great game, but I think that EWU would have a better shot if Montana wasn't first conference game at home. I think it will take your quarterback a few games to settle in. EWU has the talent to win, your new receivers have to establish themselves quickly and Montana has picked up some talent along dline (namely DT transfer from UW that played in a lot of games for the Huskies).

I'll root for the Eagles but I just don't see you guys pulling it off.

Don't worry...We'll pull it off. No way Montana beats EWU this year. We have way too many weapons that you don't even know about. EWU - 34 The Griz 17.

To play devil's advocate, I'd give the Griz a better chance if we weren't their first conference game and it wasn't on the road for them. They have to replace 3 or 4 starters on the Oline, and are breaking in new (to the players) offensive and defensive schemes with the coaching regime change. Renard Williams is going to have a field day reminiscent of Greg Peach in 2008 (albeit hopefully with different results). BLM isn't Matt Nichols circa 2006, with no experience. Our two main WRs (Nic Edwards and Brandon Kaufman) established themselves last season after Boyce went down. Both are huge targets with as much, if not more potential than Boyce. This game will be decided by our secondary, specifically at corner where we're weakest.

Well at least one thing in your favor is that your couple of games should do a better job of preparing you for the Griz. Nevada is a great opponent to play going into Big Sky.

The Griz play Cal Poly the week before and even if they are any good they are totally different schematically from what you guys do.

How long before he's playing for Montana?

"CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) -- An Oregon State University offensive lineman has been dismissed from the team after police say they found him naked and intoxicated in a stranger's home and had to use stun guns to take him into custody.

Corvallis police say they received the call about a naked intruder early Sunday.

Lt. Tim Brewer says responding officers ordered 19-year-old Tyler Patrick Thomas of Kalispell, Mont., to get on the ground. He says Thomas instead dropped into a three-point stance like a football player and lunged at the officers. At that point, Brewer says, two officers fired their stun guns." Texas University is famous for recruiting thugs...Sergio Kindall is a perfect example. I guess Montana has the same reputation.

Actually, Montana has usually utilized pretty good kids; they don't have the reputation of someone like Texas who makes a roster out of drug dealers, rapists, gangbangers, and junkies. But even Texas looks puritan compared to Florida State, Miami, and Virginia Tech... I can't understand why the NCAA clobbers USC when you've got "schools" like this out there. At least USC maintains pretty good academic standards; outside of Duke and Virginia, the ACC has NO academic standards.

Montana is feeling a little heat because of the one dirtbag on their roster right now, and their pursuit of the Middleton kid who is a notorious problem. But this isn't par for their course.
