EWU vs. Nicholls Game Day Thread

Should be a good game. They definitely have the playmakers to make this a scary game if the Eags come out flat.

Good early test for our Eags. From what I saw in today’s game I’d give us an advantage along both O and D lines. I think that will be the difference.

I can't seem to find a message board for them, anyone aware of one?

I looked but the only thing I could find was an inactive Delphi forum. You know what’s crazy? How many DI universities there are in LA. There’s got to be like 10 of them!

Part of Huey Long’s legacy if I’m not mistaken.

I caught some of the first half and Nicholls looked like a pretty darn good team. Good team speed on both sides of the ball and their QB is pretty shifty. I just don't know how much to take away from today's game though. I don't think USD is as good as the past couple of years when they beat Big Sky teams.

Weird game. It felt like a blowout but was less than 3TD difference. Nicholls State has some good talent; they sort of look like UC Davis.

A couple of variables: first, Eastern needs to get all available talent on the field. There were some guys missing time at the end of the Portland State and they'll need to be playing. Second, Eastern needs to come out organized and fired up. It's probably as simple as that. If both things happen, I'd expect Eastern to win.

I expect Eastern will score some points, and the defense will be tested more than the offense.

I don't know how much we gleaned from today's matchup. But that's what makes the playoffs so much fun.

Nicholls looks like a talented team. I do think that USD defense probably made them look a little better than they are. Ours will almost certainly present a bigger challenge for them.

We’ve had decent success against Southland teams in the past (minus SHSU). It’s just really hard to gauge what you’re going to get because there aren’t many common opponents like there are with the MVFC. Example, what can we take away from today’s MSU handling of the Southland #2? Not a lot.

I am sorry but I disagree. I watched most of all the games today and EWU will win this game going away. By the middle of the second quarter this game will be in the bag, the fat lady will be dancing, they will singing in the streets. You know all those things.

I watched ALL the game, and EWU needs to bring A+ game, this team has talent everywhere. We will be ready, but for fans thinking this is a cake walk, guess again. SAN Diego D is really weak, but Nichols has numerous play makers on both sides of the ball. It’s now the final 16 so get ready guys! Let’s see what they can do against a high powered offense AND defense in the cold 2000 miles from home.

talon38,
All these Teams are going to be great competitors, but once this cold weather hit their duffs, it will be all over. We have a very damn Team. We had 4 Players got hurt in Portland. Mitch Fettig, Sise, and Tysen Prunty I don't will play. I will check practice and see how they are doing. They had a few days off for Thanksgiving. I will be going in
for Surgery on Nov. 29th, @ 06:30, will be out of commission for at least 7 days "No Driving" DAMN!! Hope all had Great Thanksgiving" I did. Are you still on those Japan Flights on your big New Aircraft? Vic E. Wallace

Lots of good commentary on this one. Easy to draw different conclusions based on the level of competition Nicholls faced in San Diego. IMO their offense presents a lot like UC Davis without the big playmakers at WR but a mobile QB who plays heads up. Eastern's defense has been playing against a mobile QB who plays heads up in practice for years and the DB's are far superior to what Nicholls saw this week. Their OL is solid but expect our DL to make plays.

They played the same way against Incarnate Word a few weeks ago. Defensively active on the DL with average LB's and DB's. Eastern can lean on them and should all game long. Assume they will try to bring pressure early. Our WR's should take advantage and it wouldn't surprise me to see one have a career day. Honestly, Colonels will over pursue and EB3 could go off for some big plays on the read option.

Nicholls is a solid team that would have likely been 5-3 in the BigSky, so they are dangerous and will be hungry when they show up in Cheney. This was their first playoff win in nearly 40 years. Eastern shouldn't be doing anything differently in this one, execute on offense and defense they way they have, take care of the ball, limit the big plays and wear Nicholls down. Just don't think Nicholls has shown the physicality we've seen from the top Southland teams in the past; SHSU or UCA. They looked faster than San Diego, they are not faster than Eastern.

Talon;
I watched too and was impressed with several of their playmakers on both sides of the ball. As you know college football is an emotional game and momentum plays a big part. If the Eagles can't put them down and keep a foot on their throat it could be dangerous in the 4th qtr.
I have no doubt our coaches will have a winning game plan, it will be up to players making plays.

Here here. I was wondering why I had not seen Vic post in a while.

Hope EWU handles this team. This would be the seventh game I’ve attended this year and I’ll be honest, the travel is beginning to get to me (6+hours each way). I may be watching this one from the west side. Anyways, let’s go Eags!

Don’t underestimate how difficult it is to win on the Inferno! I think EB3, Sam McPherson and Antoine Custer break the Colonels down, and Eastern Washington advances!

To All,
Team didn't practice Sunday or Monday, they will be back on the Inferno on Tuesday p.m. will check then out cold or no cold. This will be my last day I will be able to go to check out the practices. My Truck will be going in for Recall at 7a.m. all day on Nov. 27, and Surgery the 28th 06:30 a.m. Everything will be ok, I have confidence in my Doctor. Merry Christmas to you and Families!!!!Vic E.
