EWU @ Weber State Game Day Thread

Ohhhhhhh baby! That hurts. That loss is on Eric. It’s a team game but my grandad can throw better than this kid. Where did they find him???? Run the frickin ball, you’ve got nothing but green in front of you!!! That Weber St team WAS AWFUL. And EB3 is awful too. GoEags!!

Good night, Irene. Weber is a very average team. Unfortunately, so is Eastern. We are way too soft. We need our mental and physical toughness to increase tenfold to make anything out of the season.

Eric needs to ride the bus home. #3 EWU losing to that mediocre WSU team? That was fucking PAINFUL to watch. Painful, painful, painful. OMG, did Weber State pay Eric to do that? Seriously, WTF were those two pics? That last one was for the game, the Big Sky TITLE was on the line!

The overrated chants rain down. Can’t say I disagree. This was an awful performance. Miracle time.

surprised you could hear the chant. You see the crowd on home side? Wow, half full at best and such a big game. D looked good to me and a 78 yard punt..that's about it.

I disagree on both points. Weber is above average and so is Eastern. Average teams don't play that poorly offensively against a ranked opponent on the road and still have a chance to win (ok tie) at the end. EB3 had some growing pains, but he was also put into some holes early with bad snaps and penalties that probably messed up his rythm. Also, some of the play calling on O was atrocious.

We will be fine. I am almost certain no one is getting out of the BSC undefeated and we have a good shot at running the table.

Soft? No.

It wasn't just Barriere who lost the game. Offensive line was turn stiles, receivers couldn't shake press coverage, no hole's for the runningbacks....

Went back and watched some of the game. The biggest knock on Barriere wasn't his accuracy. Eric was out of sync with the receiver routes. You can see the "moments" that receivers would get into open space but Eric held onto the ball. What I saw was a lack of understanding for where to place the ball when. Just plain rookie play. Vernon Adams did the same several times during his freshman year. I still believe in EB3.

Most of this. We don't know a lot of what went into the week of prep, but the O playcalling was a horrific hodgepodge of ineffectiveness. No reason to cite examples unless we see it repeated. D really manned up today with over 10 stops and 7 points allowed. How many FG chances were passed up today; at least 3 I think? That's 15 points... Lay this squarely at the feet of Coach Best today, but based on what I've seen from him so far, he will learn and grow from it. Tough way to go into a bye week. Heal up physically and mentally and finish strong.

On another note: IT WAS A VERY WEIRD DAY ALL OVER THE FOOTBALL MAP TODAY. Not just in Ogden.

Soft? No.

Hard to claim were a tough team. We flopped around like fish out of water all game long. It was a bad look on us. That's not Eastern football.

I'm hoping this game was just some ambient weird game and not some kind of trend. Because we'll struggle to beat much of anyone playing like we did today. And that is including the fact our defense played brilliant football. The offense was just that bad.

The good news is we get a week off to freshen up, get the players back up to game trim, and get back on the right path. In a perfect world, we use this as a learning experience and make sure not to let it happen again.

Not sure toughness is a systemic team issue because I really thought that the defense was very physical. It just wasn’t matched on the other side of the ball and I am wondering how much injuries are starting to play into that on the offensive line. We’ve lost both starting tackles, and the backup left tackle. Just not sure how much cohesion is there at this point. The bye will really
help out in that regard and hopefully we get a couple of those guys back between now and the Idaho game.

I'll give you that, the D stepped to the plate today. At least on that side of the ball, they had a next man up mentality.

I also agree that Eastern was ANYTHING but soft in this game. Weber is the #1 defense in the BIG SKY going into this game. I refuse to call anyone or coach out on this game, it just didn’t go the way we are all used to seeing it go for EWU football! I remember a game at MSU in 2010, EWU LOST badly on the road to the BOBCATS 30-7 that September day, ugly loss. After that, EWU WON out and won the National Championship, so just keep that in perspective!
Sincerely
TALON 38
