Fall Camp

Wonder how afalava will contribute. Kind of exciting! Lost some olineman unexpectingly...

Thankfully, Hill understands the importance of having a strong and deep line. Even though Weber has lost a couple from Spring, who were slated to playing a role in Weber's success, the team has the depth to replace them.

Like you, I am excited about Afalava joining the program.

Former University of Utah player Alphonso Marsh just showed up on our roster. It isn't very often that the Cats get a 6-3 CB. In 2013, the Tribune wrote a great story about Marsh's journey. I'm proud that he is at Weber State and wish him the best. Can't wait to see Marsh playing for the Purple and White!!

Also, former BYU OL Chase Larson is also on our roster. He played two seasons at Snow, transferred to BYU where he played his JR year and graduated. He is a graduate transfer, since FBS guys, who are going into the SR season cannot transfer down and play automatically in FCS.

These two along with Nebraska transfer Jared Afalava and Youngstown State transfer Vince Coleman is a good group of DI transfers heading into the 2015 campaign.

Other things of interest:
Elias Miller has been moved to Safety (he played RB, S, and WR in high school)
Billy Nelson also is now a Safety, he was originally recruited to play DB.
Connor McMahan was moved from QB to WR.
Spencer Unga is no longer on the roster
Kamana Kaimikaua is no longer on the roster
However, Haini Moimoi is back on the roster as a RB.

Couple other JCs have been added:
Bray May from Snow at LB
Emmanuel Pooler from Citrus at RB
Chandler Tunney from La Costa Canyon at WR

Good review of where the team is after a week of camp:

Also, tomorrow at 9:35am, the first of two scrimmages will happen.

Just heard that Joe Hawkins and Cameron Young are currently injured. Most of the line seems banged up, after 1 week of practice?

At today's scrimmage, the starters were:
Bruce at Center
Brown and Shannon at Guard
Oliverson and Wilcox at Tackle

Those guys seemed to play the entire scrimmage I attended. Let's keep our fingers crossed that Hawkins and Young can get back soon. We desperately need them.

What's the severity of the injury? How long Is Hawkins out? Please not the season. What about Young? I do know that Turner is done. We started camp with 16 OL, 5 starters ='s 11, three injured gives us 8 available. What is our depth looking like on the line out of those 8?

Good Afternoon WILDCAT FANS!

Watched scrimmage practice today! Linebacking core look strong and Deep. Interesting what's going on at the QB position. Seems like no one is really stepping up? Hopefully someone will step up next week! Not seeing much a a deep ball game from any of the QB's as well. WSU offense looks the same at the end of spring practice (not very explosive0 . Waiting to see if the offensive coordinator is going to start dialing things up or not?

Freshman group is interesting, couple of guys on the defense looking like serious players, not much from the freshman class on the offensive side.....

I hope you don't mind me dropping in a link, but here's a fall camp story on KSL

Isn't Moimoi a Mac recruit? Seems like that was ages ago.

I believe so. Moimoi looked decent in the scrimmage. Runs hard and with energy. Based on what I saw, Zach Smith and Treshawn Garrett are on track for the two-deep, but Moimoi will get some carries too.

Thanks brett! Like your stuff. Keep up the good work. I was wondering when KSL was going to have a piece about something other than the U or Y.

By the way, and he gets a lot of crap on her, but Garside has been doing a good job with his "Know the Cats" series.

As for my opinions on the scrimmage. I thought there was great balance between the offense and defense. It seems to me, right now, that Jadrian is the starting QB, but Hill used Leckington and Green quite a bit. He seems to really like Shaw, but it is virtually a given that Shaw will probably RS (in my minds eye). I'm worried about our OL. Losing three starters after 1 week of camp is not a good sign. My first thought is conditioning. What is happening? Too many lineman are already injured and that shouldn't be the case this early. Weber had great depth and that depth looked depleted after 1 week of camp. To me, it really seemed that the offense was hampered by the line issues and weren't able to run a lot of its plays because of it.

All in all, I thought it was a decent first scrimmage. We need to remember that the team had only had a handful of full pad workouts before Saturday morning. We probably will learn a bit more on Friday. I'm planning on showing up for a half-hour or so to see our progress. Even though I'm worried about our line, I thought that Barron Bruce did a solid job playing at center. Hell, the entire line played well. I really liked Connor Shannon's play as well.

Final thought, too many dropped balls by the receivers. Some wide open. Gotta catch the ball before you take off running. Loved the play of the Running Backs.

QB is key. Again.
:+1:
Your right it is all about the qb at weber as to if they will have have success this season. I have watched many of the practices and scrimmages and games and have seen nothing that would indicate we have some one that can lead the team Tia winning season. Hopefully someone steps up in fall camp soon and ca show the ability throw the long ball

Colter Nuanez from Bozeman (I'll contact him to double check) did a podcast breaking down the Cats. He is going through every team (http://www.bobcatnation.com/bobcatbb/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=36249" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) in the Big Sky and doing a great job. Thank you Colter for your stellar efforts and great reporting.

NOgden you're a bigger fan of Garside's reporting than I am. This a nice little article but like all his stories, it lacks depth. It really tells us very little about anything. What happened to Kaimikana and Cole Payne? What's the depth chart looking like? Who's dealing with injuries? We also have one of the most exciting WR recruiting classes is some time and nothing is said about the freshman. Which freshman, if any, can we expect to contribute? Hambric, Holmes, Prince, and Sherlin look to be studs. Hambric is 6'4" with great speed. Sherlin was still getting serious FBS interest after he committed to Weber. But instead all we get is lots of quotes and more coach speak.
