Just saw where Weber State agreed to a home and home series with Northern Iowa, in Odgen in 2019 and at UNI in 2020.

Still makes me wonder why we can't seem to make any home and homes with other FCS schools. UNI also has a home and home set up with Idaho State those same years. Weber may have some money (thanks to Lillard), but it is not like Idaho State is swimming in riches. Besides, I can't see if given the option, teams would choose Ogden and Pocatello over going to Portland. And, as the Weber coach said in the article, it is a chance to build up the program.

Flying a football team to Des Moines or maybe Chicago and then getting a bus or two to take them to Cedar Falls... at least it's not Cedar City UT on a "how many transfers and bus miles does it take to get there" level, but it's not exactly something that Portland State is offsetting with gate revenue.

Yes, I know the home team pays guarantees. No, Portland State is scheduling FBS roadies because there's little money from gate revenue to cover bringing someone in that can't get here by bus in a few hours.

Flying a football team to Des Moines or maybe Chicago and then getting a bus or two to take them to Cedar Falls... at least it's not Cedar City UT on a "how many transfers and bus miles does it take to get there" level, but it's not exactly something that Portland State is offsetting with gate revenue.

Waterloo is served by Delta (non-stop to Minneapolis) and American (non-stop to O'Hare). Teams flying in to play UNI have a shorter bus ride that teams flying in to Portland to play PSU. And, like I mentioned, Idaho State is also cash-strapped, yet they can do a home and home. Taking your example, Southern Utah also has a home and home scheduled with UNI. Cal Poly just finished a home and home with the Panthers. Those schools are busing a fair distance to fly out to play, yet I would not say any of them are filthy rich.
