FCS Poll (Nov 2) - Eags up to #4

Why is McNeese State rated so low and moving up so slowly?

When we played McNeese in 2007 in the playoffs one of the more knowledgable local coaches told me we would win easily as their conference was weak. Coach Wulff and a very strong 2007 squad won 44-15 on the road and narrowly lost 38-35 at App State the following week. Anything can happen in the playoffs and we are in control as we enter November. Polls mean nothing but it gives us something to post about and talk about at our tailgate. This has been a great season so far with a showdown against a great coach and staff this weekend. After Saturday I feel our defense is ready to face what Coach Baldwin described tonight on the ESPN 700AM Coaches Show as the best offense in the Big Sky.

Our local fans are fortunate to have the opportunity to attend the Coaches Show. Beau was terrific tonight as was Miquiyah Zamora. Larry and Paul do a great job every week. Amazing to hear we had the ball twice on Saturday with the wind. Both possessions we scored touchdowns. One of the best wins I've seen among too many wins to tally. Agree with Larry, Gage Gubrud should be Big Sky Special Teams POW. This was another example of why this is the best coaching staff in the Big Sky.
The McNeese game was awesome. They have decent facilities for FCS, and they had a packed house. I remember the fans talking crap during our warmup in the endzone. How sweet it was to shut them up.

I was at that game as a fan and you are right the fans were pretty cocky before the game but by half they were asking "who are these guys"? It has been a while but as I recall they had not seen the likes of our speed as a team.

If I remember correctly, they were the #2 seed that year in the playoffs. Also, Montana lost to Wofford on a last second field goal that same weekend. Poetic justice as that's how they beat us in 2007.

What year did we go into Carbondale and beat the #1 S Illinois Salukis? I remember the fans there not accepting the loss very well. They had a future NFL running back that was a horse up the middle but they could not get to the edge with anybody else so our D shut them down for the upset. Fun trip!

In 2004 #1 So. Illinois Salukis were beat by EWU 35-31 in a slobberknocker. Brandon Jacobs was a monster at RB (and for NFL Giants) and also ran back kickoffs...he was 6'4 265 lbs and was very fast.

*I believe the weather was really bad.

That was 2004.

Ironically enough, I was at both of those games that year. I hadn't even realized that until reading this!

Craig Haley posted his first playoff projections. He has us as a 6 seed, PSU is the 3 seed and SUU plays in the opening round.

Found it

While I'm sure the voters will find a way to screw it up, Haley's projections are refreshing. He seems to have done his homework based on the games played thus far and I'd say his bracket is solid based on current positioning.

One thing I had no idea about... the MEAC will no longer send a conference champ auto-bid to the playoffs. After years of getting their asses kicked, they quit trying. I'd love to see Eastern get a Bethune-Cookman / Citadel winner. The NCAA has grown so predictable with who they pair off in the playoffs, that getting a team like that to come to Cheney would be something I'd love to see.

I'm sick to death of seeing the Big Sky stuck in games with Southland or MVC opponents every damn year.

The pessimism on this board needs to lighten the f*&# up. Name a team below us that we can't beat

What about #20?

You really think we can't beat UNI? Nine times out of ten, that game is ours. We let one slip, but so has every single team in the top ten.

I mentioned the MEAC thing to Haley on Twitter. I'm curious as to who the next team is after Bethune-Cookman when it comes to playoff berths.

A MEAC at-large would be criminal.

Bethune Cookman's best win is against a 5-3 SCST. There are only two other teams in the conference that are above 200 in sagarin.

beating portland state would give us a big bump in the seeding i would think...but we have two other games to win first.
