First Fall Scrimmage

CKupp,
I just got through reading the article about Cooper, and the entire Football Company. I really everything you and the Family have mentioned of Cooper. Some of the catches he made in the 4 years I have seen him, I taught he had dropped them, until I look up and see him running away from his defenders. I this young Outstanding Athlete doesn't get drafted high, I honestly will give up watching FB, as much as I love FB. He is the damn best WR I have seen in the years I have been attending EWU FB, and we had some great WR. "GOOD LUCK IN THE COMING DRAFTS" I love watching Cooper on the field, he is spectacular. What I love is to see the young WR's watching and learning, i.e. Shaq Hill, Nic Sblendorio, Jason Williams, Nsimba Webster, Kyle Olsen-Urbon (New Recruit), Zach Eagle, Stu Stiles, Dre' Sonte Dorton, Terence Grady, Roy Ebong. Hope I haven't forgotten any of them. We will be still an outstanding set of WR after Coop graduates. Again Fantastic Article. Vic Wallace

LDopaPDX,
If you remember Victor Gamboa came in as a Wide Receiver, he was converted to DB, and he has filled in very well. Stu Stiles, Zach Eagle, Jason Williams, Nic Sblendorio, Dre' Sonte Orton, Terence Grady, Kyle Ubon-Jones and Nsimba Webster are going to be Outstanding Wide Receivers. Just hope they all stay healthy. I know Friday is work day for most of you, hope to see many of you on Friday 09:45a.m. Scrimmage. Team will have Sat and Sunday off. Lets pack Roos Field on Friday a.m. Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

My problem, Vic, is that all of these guys have the potential to be really good receivers, but they are good enough athletes that they also have the potential to be good elsewhere on the field. And you didn't even mention Kupp, Bourne, or any of the tight ends. But how many receivers do we really need? This is especially true given the lack of high-level talent in our secondary. It just seems like we have an armada of great receivers, many of whom will only see the field 10 plays or so each game. Yet the secondary is so thin, moving a couple of them over might mean a massive improvement over the group that is in those positions now.

Why would someone want to be a fringe guy on offense when he could be a major impact player on defense?

Listened to an interview with Beau Baldwin the other day. When asked about the starting quarterback, he said that he has been giving Reilly Hennessey and Jordan West more snaps than Gage in scrimmages. He claimed that the starting quarterback is undecided and went on to list the strengths of each quarterback.

My opinion? We already know it is Gage Gubrud. The extra snaps were just to find the correct back up and Beau is keeping secrets again to try and surprise WSU.

When a defense can't get enough pressure on a QB no secondary is going to look good. The UM game last year was a prime example. The griz QB who is not mobile to begin with was coming off a lower leg injury and had an obvious limp and the EAGS did not take advantage of that with aggressive blitzes and pressure. The EAGS made him look like an All American when he obviously wasn't. You can't expect a secondary to cover good receivers every play for a long time. I disagree with DOPA, our safeties are not the train wreck he describes. It all starts with the DL being able to apply pressure consistently which also makes blitzing LBs and even CBs more effective. It is TEAM defensive tactics that make defenses successful and that TEAM defense has not been present the last few years. I have watched several practices and the first scrimmage this year and the defense as a whole looks much improved and more physical. WSU will be a huge test for this D and will score more points than us fans want, but I think we will see a better EAG D than what we have seen the last few years.

To All,
Don't think I am bragging. After I retired from EWU University Police 21 years ago, Aug 31st, 16. my goal was to give back $50,000.00 dollars for Scholarships. Well as of yesterday Aug 31, I met my GOAL. I finished with $50,183.00, and I am very proud of that. I had 2 jobs in my 81 years, 20 years, 24 days, United States Air Force, 21 years at EWU University Police. I am so happy that I served my Country, and Eastern Washington University. Both jobs were very educational for myself. I will still continue to donate to our Athletic Program. Making my goal was very important to me. Thanks US Air Force/Eastern Washington University. To All,
Attended the last three practices, and I must say the Defense, and Offense are looking better than past years. Of course they are playing against themselves, and the hitting is hard. I sit by the rest room out of the sun, and the echoes from those hits make me concern of injuries. So far everything is looking good. Some of our Recruits will be Red Shirted. #36 Jason Talley RB left the program. Guess there must have been to much competition in that position. I am very impressed in the RB Positions, I think two of the RB will make the trip, i.e. #28 Antoine Custer Jr, and #30 Tamarick Pierce. Both of them run very hard, and great catching ability. Practice will be at 2:05p.m. today. Friday departure for Pullman. "GOOD LUCK EAGLES" Come back with a "VICTORY", that will make my daughter and myself happy. Her BD was on the 31Aug, mine will be Sept. 9. Of course I know all will be happy with a "WIN" Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

6 p.m. tonight the above will be televised on SWX. We will have Idaho back in the Big Sky, which will be good for their program, and the Big Sky. I will be checking it out after returning from Eagles Practice today. We will see Coach Graham Son on the field. Vic Wallace
