Future Schedules?

I think we should finish 3-1 in non conference games… we should have no problems beating Northern Colorado and Idaho State. Southern Utah and Portland State are winnable games and both games are at home. I do think Southern Utah over achieve last year and I don't think they will sneak up on anyone this year.. I was at the Southern Utah game last year and the Hornets completely outplayed them but found a way to lose the game... I just don't see the Hornets losing to them this year after last year's debacle ...Portland State is a wildcard they do have some talent but they seem to underachieve and miss opportunities to step up to the next level(kind of like us) but we should win the game as it is a home game... To me the 4 pivotal games will be Montana, Montana State, Cal Poly and the other team in the area... If the Hornets can find a way to split these four games they could finish 9-3.

Ummm, so this schedule looks eerily similar to last years schedule, and not much has changed roster wise, other than getting a different DC and staff. So I am thinking if they do better than 6-6 i would be surprised. I do think the blowout losses will come to an end and we will be in more games this year. :twocents:

Think again. This schedule is nothing like last year's schedule. Only one FBS game against a very beatable Cal which is in free fall. Cal's only win last year was against the same Portland State team that we beat. Two NAIA teams (first time in years) a weak non conference opponent (Weber State) and 7 home games. We have changes in the staff and also had a very good recruiting class. I would be disappointed with anything less than 8 wins this year.

GL. I did think again. Last year we almost had our arsh handed to us by an NAIA team. I think we will be able to beat at least one of them. Beat Southern Utah? not likely. Davis? Nope. Poly? Uh-huh. MSU? Nah. UM? (crickets chirpping) If you see something completely different, i am all ears.

You thought about again, but did you give it a good look again? What was/were the reason(s) the team almost lost a game to an NAIA team and dropped games it shouldn't have? Was it due to the offensive side or defensive side of the ball? Most here would conclude it was a defense issue.

From where I was sitting we almost lost to Southern Oregon due to lack of discipline on the defensive side which caused stupid unnecessary penalties and kept them in the game. Taking nothing away, from SOU, they had an outstanding QB and RB but if the defense played a clean game we would have won by 3 tds.
The lack of defensive discipline continued the next week and we lost to a inferior SUU team that couldn't move the ball without the help of our DB's penalties helping drives continue. For the most part I think the offensive played well. They survived numerous injuries to RBs without much fall off but after the Montana game injuries to the OL took it's toll. By the Causeway we were playing on empty. Had we played the dungpilers mid season we would have smoked them. They played a good game and where well prepared but they certainly were nothing special. I think there is a lot of talent returning, and new recruits I see no un winnable games next season. I am interested in seeing what improvement the new DC will make, it can't be worse than how the defense was handled last year.

Agree with most of this except for the comment about the Causeway. You don’t play on empty for that game, ever. The team just wasn’t prepared and it showed; all the way from Sperbeck on down not one person within the program was ready for that game. No excuse for that no matter when or where the Causeway is played.

If the offense produces anywhere near the same results as last season then that side of the ball will be fine. The defense needs to see dramatic improvements or this team will still struggle even with this laughable schedule. Then there is the crap shoot that is ST. That said there will be no excuses for not producing at least 7 wins next season.

Interesting. The question is, who's official website is wrong -- ours or theirs? :D

Honestly, I'd rather the Hornets play UIW, who is a fellow FCS program and a member of the Southland Conference, than Eastern Oregon, but I'm also not wild about starting out with 2 on the road yet again.

Ours isn't official yet, that link posted must have been a pre-production link. Big expense to travel so far, better be a W.

University of the Incarnate Word?

Had never heard of this school until a few minutes ago

Honestly, neither had I. But, after doing some research, they are a much better opponent for the Hornets than Eastern Oregon. They spent last season as an FCS independent, going 6-5, and officially joins the Southland Conference this year (Sam Houston State is in the conference). They are really scheduling aggressively, as they also put North Dakota State on their preseason schedule.

It's UIW

Look at SWCat going all internet stalker status. :thumb:

Thanks for the info, I’ll gladly take an FCS game over a NAIA game any day of the week. Since we are heading there next season, will they will be returning the favor and coming here in ’15?

Actually saw that on egriz, so they're the stalkers. :thumb:

I would assume, and hope, that Sac St wouldn't agree to travel to play a program in their second season of FCS without a return game agreement.

Yes, but again Sac has historically had bad gate attendance for the first game in August. Lack of students on campus, holiday weekend, hot, minimal awareness to general public, coming off a season ending loss to UCFE, yada, yada, yada.

The team might actually be making more money by travelling to a program bank rolled by sugar daddy Benson, than the 5,000 who would show up in Sac.

A return no-name in a different galaxy will do wonders for the gate next year in Sac. At least E. Oregon has some bodies on the west coast who might attend the game. Oh well, UIW is a FCS counter I guess.

Egriz has no business talking smack about us playing UIW, didn't they play somebody with a panhandle in their name last year?

now that I have learned a bit about UIW, this is indeed a better match up for many reasons then Eastern Oregon. A new Div 1 school that was founded in the 1880s appears to be coming on to the Div 1 scene at full steam. They have a basketball team that has already won 19 games this year. Will be very interesting for our Hornets to travel to San Antonio to start the season against this school Sure to create a lot of interesting press.
And Sac State coming to their school should create a big buzz and a sellout in their 6,000 seat stadium.

Go Hornets!!
