G5/FCS Trickledown Realignment…

This is from the king of public records act requests - hugely reliable source on NCAA goings on…. Highly recommend his “extra points”’blog subscription.

Looks like Kennesaw State (GA) is joining C-USA. Missouri State is also in the mix for C-USA or Sun Belt, along with SFA, EKU and Tarleton (TX).

Kennesaw had 4,505 attendance last weekend.

Pretty soon FCS will be quasi religious small enrollment colleges, HBCU's and directional teacher colleges. Surely Sac State at 31,000 students has a grander view?

I want nothing to do with FBS. They're way too slow on operating a REAL playoff, and they love defining people out just so they can define out the upset. In fact, there are some G5s who ought to come to FCS-land, like UMASS, UCONN, and the New Mexicos....

Sources saying San Diego State to the Pac12….

Sac State to the Mountain West?! All Basketball games at the G1C, and we’re good to go.

New MWC:

West—
Sac
Davis
Fresno
SJSU
Hawaii
Nevada

EAST—
UNLV
Wyoming
Utah State
Colorado State
New Mexico
Air Force

Already refuted by Nicole Auerbach. Mind you, the reporting says the Pac won’t add any schools until the media contract is finalized. I can see SDSU reps leaking to someone because one interested media party might have agreed that SDSU isn’t going to dilute the $ offer.

I do wonder if Fresno (who’s been using the “4 million people in the valley” line in their attempts to sell themselves) would lead an effort to oppose Sac.

Fresnot is an arm pit, sweaty armpit. Who in their right mind would follow a team from Fresnot who lives in the SACRAMENTO valley?
CSU would drive this decision.

They do have a respectable athletic department, but that is all.

CSU would drive this decision?

Chuckle-snort.

Sometimes I am rightly labeled a cynic for this stance, but if there’s an opportunity for petty politics to be invoked, it’s a fair bet that will be employed.

If the UC BOR halts the UCLA move, that would both prove my point about petty politics and yet probably cause enough shockwaves to undermine my point about Fresno’s veto, so there’s that.

When San Joser wanted to be added, the CSU threw it's weight around.

Why wouldn’t Fresno want another CSU in conference? Build
Rivalries, cut costs, different media market, what’s the beef there?

Cal Poly, Sac State, Fresno State, San Jose State, and San Diego State should all be in the same conference in a perfect world.

Sac State's home attendance so far this year is 15,500/game. :thumb:
23,073 yesterday.

Nevada: 12,501
Hawaii: 9,346
Utah State: 13,677
Wyoming: 17,345
UTEP: 10,758
New Mexico: 14,309
Tulsa: 13,819
Air Force: 20,121
Texas State: 13,287

I hope Hawai'i has fixed their stadium. When I went there hoping to see the Rainbows (who were actually in San Jose that week, forcing me to watch HS playoffs) while on deployment in the early '90s, I was left wondering how the NFL played a game there every year given that the stands were so rickety that I felt like I was going to fall through the stands to the ground....

Hawaii will get a new stadium. Note that they’ve already delayed demo of the old Aloha from what was supposed to be about now or so. Will be interested to see if they stick with that design.

Looks like Austin Peay, our 2019 playoff opponent, will make a play for FBS.

They actually fared much better in their game against Alabama than I expected. Props to them for that.

They didn’t score, but losing 34-0 against the best college football program of the past decade plus isn’t terrible by any means.

Nah. They’re operating a separate football conference as of 2024. Going FBS will be as soon as can be realistically done, or whatever legally careful language was used in the announcement. This begs who’s going to pay that motley bunch to move up.

San Diego State to PAC-12 reported today…

You sure, K? I'm seeing a report today that's just the report of predictions from a pundit via the AZ Republic featuring the loss of some Pac-12 programs and the addition of Southern Methodist, San Diego State, and some other MWC programs. It's all still fluid, as there is also a fear that the Pac-12 may well break up, and schools like Cal and OR State could be on the outs when all the dust falls: No Big XII interest in the Pac-12 beyond the "Four Corner" schools and the possibility that the Big Ten doesn't see them as "big enough."

Another reason I'm happy in the Big Sky. Megaconferences are ruining college football....

• Who should the Mountain West Conference be exploring as potential expansion targets? My mind immediately went to a handful of California-based Big Sky Conference members such as UC Davis, Cal Poly and Sacramento State. But I’m told by an industry insider that those options won’t easily fly.

• There could be firm opposition from San Jose State, Nevada and Fresno State, who all regularly recruit California, per the source. Also, there’s a sizeable investment required to make the jump up.

• The same insider waved off current Big Sky member Montana as a possible Mountain West Conference target. He said: “Montana and Montana State will stay together.”
