Associated Press
OGDEN, Utah -- Cameron Higgins threw for 413 yards and two touchdowns as the Weber State Wildcats defeated the Northern Colorado Bears 17-10 Saturday.

The Wildcats (6-2, 4-0 Big Sky Conference) outgained the Bears 571-142 in yards on offense, but struggled getting into the red zone. Higgins hit Tim Toone on an 18-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter and a 40-yard field goal from Jon Williams gave WSU a 10-0 lead at the half.

Linebacker Cristian Sarmento led the Bears (1-5, 1-2 Big Sky) with 17 tackles -- 10 in the first half when he had two sacks and a forced fumble. Colorado forced four turnovers from WSU, including two interceptions from Higgins, while turning the ball over just once.

WSU extended its lead to 17-3 following a 27-yard touchdown reception by Cody Nakamura, who finished with seven catches for 93 yards, late in the third quarter.

However the Bears got back in the game when Bryan Waggener hooked up with Jason Caprioli on a 5-yard scoring pass with 2:26 left in the game. WSU?s Bryant Eteuati recovered the ensuing onside kick and the Wildcats ran out the clock

...good
not so good...

To the bad, add 3 sacks for losses of 24 yards, an embarrassing 1 of 4 red zone conversions, and a mid field turnover on downs. OUCH!

To the good, add the fact that we escaped with a win. WHEW!

Did we learn anything? Can we get back in the saddle and earn another signature win against the Lumberjacks in Flagstaff? Mistakes and turnovers will not cut it! We have to step up like it's a playoff game - the conference championship is on the line!

Is the UNC defense THAT good? :?:

After this weekend's showing against Weber State, UNC is now the #1 scoring defense in the Big Sky versus conference opponents. :!:

:ugeek: Not bad, really, since they have already played the TOP TWO Big Sky scoring offenses versus conference opponents, NAU and WSU. Even after giving up 413 yards to "Air Higgins," the Bears are still ranked fourth in the conference in pass defense versus Big Sky opponents.

Is the Northern Colorado defense for real? I think so.
