Game Day Thread @ WSU

Tough game guys. I have a lot of respect for Eastern and will be rooting for them to win the Big Sky.

The officials were absolutely terrible, so I'm sorry for that as well. As a Cougar fan, I don't want to win because of lopsided officiated, either.

I think the difference was defense. The playcalling for Eastern wasn't what I expected.

But I don't think there were any serious injuries on either side, so hopefully both teams represent the East side well in their respective divisions and continue to play up to their potential.

Officiating was bad but WSU was clearly the better team. Good luck to you guys.

WSU hasn't forgotten. They are coming off two very good wins with a very young WR corps, a new transfer QB and a lot of new starters on defense. Won't run through all the numbers, but this may be a better WSU team than the one Eastern faced in 16

That's a good WSU team.

A few things:

1. WSU looks really strong. I'll take them to beat USC in LA next week. That is a solid defense, and Minshew gives them more mobility than they've had at QB since Gesser.

2. Talent-wise, this was a bigger disparity than I thought. WSU looked like a much better team from the first quarter on.

3. I was impressed by our heart in the second and third quarter that we were able to fight back into the game. A lot of teams would've quit by then.

4. I was not impressed by how we folded in the fourth quarter. I suppose it's human nature to play worse when the game is out of reach, but I'd have liked to see us keep fighting and get a little more respect after the game.

5. After a couple of games of our receivers doing their best impression of Kupp / Bourne / Hill, they looked a lot more like the guys they were in 2017. WSU's DBs feasted on them.

6. Our DL also had a rotten game, but the whole defense was just about equally as bad. Mitchell Johnson looks like he's going to be a monster as he develops, though.

7. We're 2-1, which is exactly when the team needed to be. This game is ultimately a non-issue if we get back to where we need to be this weekend. That said, teams tend to have bad performances after games like this where they get exposed a bit. It'll be important to get back to the task at hand and win that first conference game.
