Glen Dean.. Out

1990, I was wrong. Hope he enjoys sitting out a year, then riding the pine, then transferring to Central. And you are right about the pressure to commit(heard that it was a waterboarding incident). You also mentioned "In all interviews Dean has stressed the importance of friends, team mates, family and even his instructors. He even did the mature act of not mentioning who the other schools were. Classy". He's a real classy guy and as you say a real model student athlete, classy indeed. Call me when he's 1st team Pac 12...Do I hope I'm wrong? Don't give a rip one way or the other, he's gone move on.

The good thing about bitter folks like you Observer is that it provides motiviation to folks to do well. The kid will be fine there and get a good education in his chosen field. If you had a son that wanted to be a doctor, where would you recommend he go, to a teacher prep school like Eastern or to a university that has a medical school. On the basketball front, where would you have your son play, a middling conference like the Big Sky or a major conference like the Pac-10. Bottom line is that Dean was a model student in the classroom and on the court while at Eastern. Instead of being negative and hurtful to a kid that made a tough decision, we should simply say thank you and wish him well. It is, after all, just basketball. Hayford will fill the void well and quickly. I am still looking forward to the new season and moving forward. We still have lots of talent.

1990 don't confuse disagreeing with your accolades of Dean, as he bails on EWU, to bitterness. If he doesn't want to be an Eagle then by all means get out of Dodge. I won't thank him (perhaps he should be thanking EWU) but I am glad you think of him as a model student on/off the court(kinda thought that's what student/athletes were suppose to be).

obzerver: you can't really sit there and question why dean would choose utah over eastern, can you? 1) pac10 team vs. big sky team. 2) he gets a better education in a field he wants to be in. just be happy for the kid and move on, pal. eastern will be just fine when hayford works his recruiting magic. that's why we hired him, right?

Will be interesting to see how he performs at the Pac-12 level of play. I suspect that because of how down Utah has been, he will have a great chance to start and be one of the best players on the Utes after sitting out a year.

Another reason kids should not play their first year and should red shirt. If Dean had used his r.s. at Eastern he would have had only 1 year to play after the x.fer. He would still be an Eagle
