I made the trip up to Pokey for the game. This was my first time actually inside the great potato barn.
I went up with my son and we left the Ogden area about 4:15 and got into Pokey at about 6. We then went and tried to find a place to eat - lots of one way streets made it a little difficult get around, but not too bad.
We then went to the great potato barn. We both wore white shirts and were able to get the $8 tickets so I was able to save a few bucks :twocents: and not support ISU athletics too much ;-) After we got our tickets, we went back to my car and changed to into purple shirts.
We got seats in the football seating, I think section D which was right about the freethrow line of ISU. We were the only people wearing purple there so we moved over to the Purple Palace section. We just picked some empty seats and had a good time with the rest of the Weber fans.
I was struck with how dark the building was - can't they afford to get some better lights in that place? It was hard to see the court. The acoustics were horrible. My ears still hurt from the PA announcer and that crappy music they played all night. Couldn't you get some acoustic tiles and hang those from the rafters to improve the sound quality? The seats were super comfortable as well - nothing like some nice hard plastic (at least there was a back support). All I can say is that the potato barn lived down to all of my expectations and then some.
I was surprised to see so many ISU fans there. I actually expected to see about equal numbers of WSU and ISU fans (about 400 each). Good for them to come and support a
athletic program.
I thought Weber played horrible - they looked like a team that didn't show up - little to no energy. They seemed to fall into the trap that all they had to do was just show up and they would win. They also missed many open shots that they normally make - I would guess that the potato barn played a role in missing so many shots.
In the end, I'm glad I went to the game. Had a good time. Frustrated with the outcome of the game, but Weber still controls their own destiny and I think will now run the table.
