Oh no! He didn't actually use the "Do you know who I am?" bit, did he?

And then Calhoun...literally falling down drunk at the police station.

Ooops...sorry...I know this shit is serious... :ohno:

But still.....

The public embarrassment is far and away the worst part of this whole story. Without the football connection, it's just another saturday night in a small college town.

This too shall pass.

Excited for EB and the younger LB's opportunity. :thumb:

You are right, this shit is funny. Not the "I'm not leaving without my boy" crap; but once sober, these two will be super embarrassed. We have all done Cheney and know the cops there are not "top of their class", it is a college town afterall. Be thankful they aren't the Polizei, those guys don't play.

The punishment metted out so far, is commiserate with the crime of foolishness these two displayed. Just glad no one was seriously injured. Hope they learn something from the incident.

Seems a little melodramatic to me...

I'm sure Gage and Kurt are embarrassed as hell and have been since they sobered up. Not sure long terms suspensions fit in this situation, but if Coach Best added a second game of punishment, I wouldn't disagree.

Hopefully this becomes a teachable moment. This is a bad look for the program.

It's only a bad look for the program for other fans who think their program's shit doesn't stink and those who don't believe in redemption.

First of all, anyone suggesting this was an overreaction by the Cheney PD, clearly doesn't get it. If ANYTHING, Cheney officers were probably much more likely to give multiple opportunities to butt the hell out of the situation before it escalating to arrest, as compared to most departments.

Second of all, I'm more disappointed in the fact that our "leader" was out hammered in public just hours after a terrible loss and actually then tried to throw his name around as an excuse for being moronic.

Bottom line, they made a couple mistakes. Not something that anyone else here hasn't also done (as far as making bad choices in life). I'm sure as others mentioned, their embarrassment to the situation will far out way the sanctions for the charge. I hope they both learn from this and come back stronger for it. I also applaud Coach Best for making a very tough decision when everything is on the line for this team in the coming weeks. This program will be better for this moving forward, with or without Gage and Kurt, but I do hope it's WITH.

This is chump change when compared to a three on one felony assault that leaves a kid hospitalized. But it's still bad behavior and not what we expect from Eastern players. While other schools may have a culture that tolerates or attempts to mitigate criminal conduct from players, our's does not. And we're better for it.

I'm confused. Does suspended from the upcoming game include suspension from working out/practicing/ observing with the team? Also, just curious, would removal from the team affect a player's scholarship? I suppose that's a legal matter. No, I not suggesting anything like that with these two honorable players/students.

If this is a less than subtle dig at Montana, you’re behind in the count 0-2, and looking pretty foolish with a couple weakassed swings.

First, the situation in Pullman didn’t involve 3 GRIZ players. Second, no charges have been levied, and if an assault charge ultimately is, the player’s career will be over at Montana. That player did serve a two game suspension for being at a party, the only thing that’s been charged so far. So, what you’re really saying, I guess, is that UM’s discipline for similar events is more stringent.

Either way, though, this story is funny as shit!! “Look, I’m on a billboard over there! You can’t arrest my drunk ass!!”

Boasting about being an EWU star QB/LB is the most troubling and doesn't really fit the "EKG" mold. This could be a good character building moment for those two. As part of that character building, they should call all of the major sponsors and apologize for the embarrassment they caused and also write a letter to be published in the Easterner and distributed to EAF donors. Probably wouldn't hurt to apologize to the Cheney PD while they're at it. Fully own it and become a better person for it. Game suspensions and the like are punishment but don't really address the redemption of their acts. In other words; Coach Best is fulfilling his obligation but those two guys need to accept their punishment and then fulfill their obligation to the team, the University, the community and themselves. I also think it would be fitting for those guys to spend time on the sideline for a while in front of their home crowd and feel some of that embarrassment. Then move on as leaders on what EKG really means.

Easterner article paints it as not exactly the crime of the century and Gage's remarks aren't quite as bad...

Maybe one of Gage's "homies" is on the sports desk at The Easterner.
