"One extra body bag game..."

UC Davis hired a guy in Gould 4 years ago who was very similar to angus McClure. Great recruiter for an average football program. Angus is an Alumnus. Only difference.
What happened to that courage collegiate FB players have? Are we not recruiting the right players to this program? I am glad to see you pivot away from the “no resources” to an “additional physical risk” narrative. That “no resources” narrative wasn’t going to hold water so at least you recognize that.OldSchoolHornet said:SDH wants to expose our players to the additional physical risk for another "body bag game" as a resource for making more money, so I called him out for his ignorance. Playing up once a year may be a necessity, but it almost always has an injury cost. Do any of you actual ex-players out there think prostituting our current players by playing additional body bag games is a good idea?
The Hornets just got trucked by a program that exposed its players to "additional physical risk" earlier in the season. Looks like another one of your narratives just went up in smoke.OldSchoolHornet said:I guess you two missed the part where I asked for responses from guys who had actually played.
I'll file this as political talk. No one can honestly believe this line. I figured Macriss was going to be a status quo kinda guy but was hoping he would make a bold move to right the ship (and push for something more across the other sports). I'm not surprised it's more of the same. Disappointing to say the least.Green Laser said:We’ll know Saturday whether the prime minister’s words stir the souls of the Hornets, and we’ll find out after the game where Sears stands in the estimation of his boss, Sac State athletic director Bill Macriss.
After the luncheon, Macriss made it sound like Sears need not worry. The AD noted that nearly every successful football coach at Sac State in the past 50 years had plenty of time to get things sorted out. Sears is finishing the third season of his four-year contract. Back-to-back records of 2-9 won’t get anybody into any Hall of Fame, but Macriss has apparently seen enough from Sears that he’d like to see the coach develop a young team that has more freshman and sophomore players than it does juniors and seniors.
“Coach Sears this year, I’m sure, like so many of our supporters and fans, hasn’t been excited about the outcome, record-wise,” Macriss said. “But the team, if you come to the games, is never giving up. We’re playing our best football at the end of the year. The students are still engaged and focused and playing their hearts out for each other and the coaches. I think in football, more than any other sport, you’ve got to be patient and let the program grow from the ground up.”

Word is they are courting Angus McClure.

On the other hand, our head coach Jody Sears has been a head coach for 5 years(between Sac St and Weber St) and only had one season in which he won more than 2 games.
Had a defense that was horrible by giving up 44 points per game in Big Sky play.
A passing game that was atrocious.
Losing to a Division 2 school that won only 4 games this year.
A team that has shown no improvement in 2 years in fact there is an argument that this team has got worse.
Getting blown out against Davis the last 2 years when their team was just as bad as ours.
And lastly, Jay Hill(Weber St Head Coach) who took over for Jody Sears 3 years ago has taken Weber St to the playoffs this year.
It appears that our A.D. does not see the big picture and does not want to do the right thing for the program by moving on from this coaching staff. I'm sure instead we will hear we need to be patient with the process which means in 2017, we will see 2 maybe 3 wins and the attendance dropping below 5000 per game. Can't wait!!
