Hello from UC Davis

What up Viks!

Well, we stunk it up against Western Washington. We dropped a lot of balls, overthrew receivers, committed dumb personal fouls, and had a ton of rookie mistakes including fumbles and a secondary that gave up so many 10 yard chunks it was too hard to watch. Some bright spots were our running game, the big plays we had, and our run defense.

So, is McNeese the real deal as advertised? Or did you guys just have issues in the red zone? We had issues finishing drives. They either got stalled by a stupid turnover, a bad pass, a dropped pass, or in one instance...pass happy play calling. Our scores came off of 3 big plays: a huge run by #9 Trombetta, and deep balls to #1 Chris Carter and #2 Brandon Rice (who dropped 2 very key passes in the game).

Am looking forward to the main event up in Portland. I will be there with my Ptown buddies.

p.s. - we're still having a QB identity crisis.

Yeah McNeese is quicker then any other FCS team no doubt. Title contender this year. We also struggled on offense this past week. If I had to make a guess though I'd say White will start this week.

HI!! Yes - we are coming off a VERY tough and most disappointing start to the "New Era" of UC Davis athletics. I hope we have better luck against the other Vikings at PSU. But it was not encouraging knowing that WWU was the easiest of our opponents. It's only going to get harder.

I won't be able to make it to Portland (it's a very long ways from here). I'll be tuning in via AM radio. As it is I'll be hitting 7 of our games.

Look forward to learning more about the PSU team leading up to the game.

P.S. Yes, our QB position is a huge liability right now. I think Biggs will stick with Plough and trust his decision, but who knows depending on how bad things may get...Last edited by on 2007-09-02, 12:25; edited 1 time in total

Ian's blog said reality check. The Aggies found out Western Washington was tough. McNeese State was tough. Appy State was really tough. Our senior quarterback White came off the better listening to the game on the radio. And now if the run and shoot can just get on the same page away we go.
But like they say on any given day.
We'll have the biggest opening day crowd in a while for the game next week. Maybe a record for opening day.
See ya there.

Hello Viking Fans,

To be quite honest, we don't know what to expect from the Aggies at this point. Not only was the outcome of the WWU game totally unexpected, but perhaps even more surprising was the uncharacteristic way the Aggies performed compared to what we have come to appreciate in Aggie football. Our quarterbacks were not sharp at all and seemed out of sync with the receivers. When they weren't misfiring, the recievers dropped wide open passes left and right. The pass protection and pass rush were inconsistent all afternoon, and several defensive personal fouls were something you rarely ever see from an Aggie team. Pass defense was abysmal and gave up 362 yards, many of which came on 3rd and long situations. On a positive note, Joe Trombetta, our Freshman RB, had something like 189 yards rushing and 287 all-purpose yards, which something we haven't seen in eons.

Perhaps the biggest story of the day was the dangerous heat levels in the new stadium. Field temperatures were measured at 112 degrees early in the game, and probably reached 115 - 120 degrees later. The fans were dropping like flies; 85 were treated for heat and 8 were hospitalized. It was the most brutal conditions I have ever sat through for any sporting event.

Thank your AD profusely for scheduling this game in Portland and not in Davis until lights are in. The heat was truly unbelievable; it was lucky someone didn't die out there

I think the players and fans alike are still revovering from the meltdown, mentally and physically, but I've come to know that you never want to count an Aggie team out, especially, a team with wounded Aggie Pride.

No need to hit the panic button just yet. Tons of teams every year fall well under expectations on opening day. Last year we beat New Mexico on their field, they thought they were done for, they ended making it to a bowl game. UC Davis still has 10 games to go.

As for the heat, that sounds terrible. So there are no lights up yet? You build a gorgeous stadium like that one and no lights /users/31/07/37/smiles/618108.gif

Hey there, looking foward to the trip up with Aggie6thman, ucdavisaggie05, and Foster. Should be a good time. Ready for some tailgating!

Yep...we've got a state of the art jumbtron...but no lights until November or December....go figure those priorities for one of the hottest valleys in the nation.

Hello all Aggie fans. I am a Roseville/Granite Bay native so I am well aware of the success that UC Davis has had in football as a D2 program. I was recruited by PSU and live in Portland now and had the honor of playing UC Davis the last two times we met.

Let me also say that your teams new stadium looks amazing, things really have the oppurtinity to foster and I expect UC Davis to become a power in FCS football over the years and hope our two schools continue to play eachother.

Good luck Saturday, both teams are coming off embarassing losses so we know they will be playing hard, pray for no injuries, See you there.

and GO VIKS!!

Losing to WWU was just to throw you off. We knew it didn't count towards the minimum 7 DI games for the playoffs. I also have a bridge I want to sell you. The Aggies have a rushing game finally and a rush defense but no passing game and no pass defense. I don't really expect this to improve substantially by next week so I'm guessing a 21 point win by PSU. Before the seaon started I thought it might be a toss-up.

When I first saw the schedule I was pleased to see UC Davis as our opener because you guys are always tough and bring a lot of spirit to the Park. I haven't changed my mind because of Saturday's losses. I think it will be a good time and a good game.

With a game under our belts, Mackins back and a nice home crowd the Vikings have to be favored, but you never know!

I totally agree A1, even when the last time UC Davis came to portland the game had no playoff implications but still UC Davis fans showed up 600 miles away from home.

UC Davis was the best University in the Sacramento area growing up and I always like to see them play the viks.

Post-Game Party – Portland State Game

Anybody interested in a post-game party at my house, about 12 miles south of Portland (approximately 15 minutes from PGE Park) please send me a message including your personal email and about how many guest, including yourself, you think may be attending.

PortlandAggie, me, will provide all the Beer, BBQ, etc. With good weather expected and a fire pit in the backyard, what better way to celebrate a PSU-UC Davis game than talking about the game and up coming season drinking beers around the fire?

Oregon State (Thursday, Sep. 6 @ Cincinnati) and Oregon (Saturday, Sep. 8 @ Michigan) are both on the road this weekend, so we expect a good crowd at PGE Park.

Also, the UC Davis athletic department would like to encourage anyone going to the game to meet at a pre-game no host reception at:

Henry’s 12th Street Tavern
4pm
10 NW 12th Avenue

Nice selection of a place to gather before the game.

Yes, the Aggies are bringing the Band-uh but unfortunately only a small group due to budget constraints. I'm guessing maybe 50 out of 200+ but to see the whole band you've got to come to Davis. They are very good - not gross like Stanford but not stuffed shirt like Fresno State. I've revised my 21 point loss estimate down to the Aggies losing by 10, Sorry to hear about the injured players.

50 out of the 200 is more of band than we will have.

Not to denegrate the HS band that is going to be there if there is one coming.
