Quite a few people want us to get our asses kicked to prove a point that we cheated and don't deserve to be there. Quite interesting. We will probably be a 15 seed and a 24 point underdog. Not sure what that makes them since they are at the NIT/CIT or worse no longer playing.

Saw a lot of that, which is dumb. Everett even went as far as to saying that there should be a post season ban. Really??

Then they go on to talk about how UNC isn't going to get "home cooking." Even though UNC went, 6-9 overall and 5-3 in conference, on the road this year. Which was better than every team in the Bigsky, except for Weber.

He does not want to talk, he is busy bitching about the officiating on the e-jiz board.

Good god, how many of those people are in middle school?

I think living in Montana has frozen their brains.

You referring to this?

No disrespect to you votb, but is this really something we should settle for? Is it really something to be proud of: well, at least our league representative didn't embarrass the conference??

Man, I long to be out of this conference and into one with aspirations, even if it means taking it on the chin for 4 or 5 years. The "we're too little", "all we can do is hope to play close for half", attitudes that pervade the Big Sky Conference drive me effin crazy.

Even dumber;

Hey, it's not my fault you still feel guilty about the bow-wrapped gifts you received from the Big Sky.

It must really suck to know:

1. This will be unc's one and only chance in a long, long time to be in the NCAAs.
2. This trip wasn't even earned.

That said, you're looking okay against SDSU. I did love the look on Beitzel's face when, as he was bricking a 3, he kicked his leg out to hit the defensive player and then staggered on his landing, looking incredulous when he didn't get a foul called. Wow, could never have predicted that!!

Check this butt-wart's siggy there:
"Booze is the duct tape of life"

Not complaining at all

We must be doing ok!

Aren't e-grizzers a bunch of "roids" !!! Its no wonder everyone loves to kick their ass. And they are even naive enough to think they belong in a bigger and better conference ! I don't know how the other schools have put up with their sorry asses for so long. Geez in our short time we are already pushing their butts in WBB, MBB, VB, soccer, and football will not be far behind. I really think their fckng scared that we will dethrone them.

I can see if you are from Weber comparing yourself to a team like Utah State. They have a lot in common (though Logan is a beautiful area), and see Utah State competing at a higher level and want the same. The thing is, it doesn't take a change of conference to do that. Gonzaga and Butler and Old Dominion are doing it in similar conferences, they just need to look inward and keep improving.

I think what's funny is that they're judging our game as we didn't "embarrass" the conference, yet Montana went and lost to Duquesne in the first round of CBI and on top of that, they feel they should be in a better conference. Where does it end with these guys? I think the best part of all is that they're still complaining after over week now.

I can't wait to visit the UNC Bookstore at the UC in July when we come out to Colorado and get my Big Sky Champion T-Shirt. Montana fans can get their runner up shirts and stuff it. They just were not good enough and that must be very hard for them to deal with.

Couple that with the feeling I have that our football team is not far away from doing the same thing. Montana better learn to cope with us beating them. Will we dominate? Probably not but we should be up there with them and Weber and EWU on a consistent basis.

I think Montana is feeling the pressure now and they don't like it. Eastern and MSU are now better on the gridiron and we've over taken them in basketball. They've been dominate for so long, they don't like it so much when others close the gap.

Seriously? You guys won one Big Sky title and now you lose pretty much your whole team (Beitzel, Kaba, Montgomery, Kingman). The Bears will probably be fighting just to make the Big Sky Tournament next year, just like everyone else aside from Weber, Montana, and maybe EWU. I guess the Bears could become a Big Sky BB power, but they could also win one title & then fall back into mediocrity just like Eastern Washington did several years ago.

And as for football… Since when is UNC's football team on the verge of "dominating"? They haven't won more than 3 games overall since joining the Big Sky and the Griz have stomped them every time they've played over that span. I know there's a new coach, but most new coach optimism ends up being misguided.

Um...our basketball team will be better than Montana's next year. Or, UNC at least won't be relying on a guard that can't make a jump shot to save his life and a 7-footer who refuses to play in the post like the Griz will.

Well, Will Cherry did average 14.2 ppg even though he "can't make a jump shot to save his life," but anyway… And who does NoCo have, exactly? No disrespect to Mike Proctor, but if he's your best player you're probably in trouble. Losing Beitzel, Kaba, Montgomery, and Kingman… that's like if Montana—on top of Qvale—also lost Selvig, Jamar, and Steward. The Bears' leading returning scorer averaged just 7.4 ppg.

Big Sky basketball is always unpredictable, but NoCo finishing ahead of Montana next year would be quite a shock without major injuries. I would pick them sixth (between NAU & MSU), but impact Jucos could shift things around a bit. The Bears lose more than anyone else except maybe Northern Arizona. Here's how I would rank things for '11-12 at the moment:

  • 1. Weber
    2. Montana
    3. EWU
    4. Portland St.
    5. NAU
    6. Northern Colorado
    7. Montana St.
    8. Idaho St.
    9. Sac State

Weber & UM should at least be pretty good, EWU could be as well if the new coach doesn't suck, PSU/NAU/NoCo should be average at best, and the rest should be mediocre at best. Joe O'Brien will get fired at ISU and the Hornets will really regret giving Brian Katz that long extension last year.

I doubt UNC finishes that low next season.

Every one has been saying UNC is losing all their talent. UNC lost talent last year(Figures, Bonner, etc). I honestly didn't think they would compete for a championship this year, but it happen, and having Devon helped. I doubt they repeat, but I don't see a 6th place finish either.

Not only is Proctor coming back but Lloyd, Garnica, Addo, and Unruh. Sure these guys aren't no Devon Beitzel, but they all contributed this season, played good amount of minutes, and got a ton of game experience. Plus a couple injured guys coming back, one that will help the bigs, and the other at guard. Also the videos I've seen of the recruits that are coming in, they look promising, and a couple of them might be able help right away. The talent is there, the only thing that worries me is if these guys can handle the pressure of having more expected out them next year.

Read my post again numbnuts. I didn't say anything about UNC football "dominating" the conference. I mentioned Eastern and Montana State. As for basketball, the only person that's not replaceable is Beitzal. Even then we've got young guns that are just developing their game. Garnica, Unruh and Svehovic can all shoot the ball. Plus, next year will have a true center in Connor Osborne.

I was responding to both you and Brian.

And I guess Brian didn't say the FB team would be on the verge of dominating, but he did say they're on the verge of passing Montana on a consistent basis. UNC has a long way to go for that to happen, if it ever does.

I don't care how many points Cherry scored per game, his 22.5 3-point percentage was worst in the nation among players with at least 100 attempts. He's a HORRIBLE jump shooter.

As for UNC (and we are UNC, NC is the only other thing people can call us without me wanting to punch them), our best player next year will be Elliott Lloyd, who will get to play his natural position. He's a shooting guard who has been forced to play the point the last 2 years because of the presence of Will Figures and Devon Beitzel. I think he'll thrive as our go-to guy on the wing next year.

We'll also add Tevin Svihovec next year, a guy the coaching staff expected to at least be our 6th man this year and maybe beat out Lloyd for the starting PG spot. And I'd personally rather have Mike Proctor, Emmanuel Addo and Connor Osborne as my post guys next year than Derek Selvig, Mathias Ward and God knows who. My rankings for next year:

Weber
EWU
UNC
UM
MSU
NAU
PSU
Sac
ISU

I think we could struggle to make the tournament next year but we have recruited really well the last 2 years. We have some really good young players and I could see us back in the Big Dance in 2 to 3 years. As far as football, our we seem to have some really good players. We were in a lot of games and should have beat Eastern Washington and Weber State last year. Our gameday coaching was horrific and with a new coaching staff and attitude change I really think we can win 4 or 5 Big Sky games next season which will get us going on the right path,

In the end though, you could be right.
