I have said this before, This will not likely happen again in Eastern's history.
I hope he is truly successful. He starts and plays every game. That will be one of the very best marketing and recruiting tools Eastern will ever have. A million $$ worth of advertising and promotion very week. Pictures of the red turf, comments and discussion of our program on every pregame show and during the game. It will elevate EWU's program in every High school. When you take a minute to think this move thru, I am not sure you can find a better outcome. When Coach Bo leaves we will see the best possible coaches apply. This is absolutely a great deal for both VA the coaches and EWU.

Ron, I think youre a great poster, but I just don't see it the way you do. Publicity? If he does well, after this first couple of games it will just be Oregon highlights. If he's drafted, he goes to the NFL as a Duck, not an Eagle. More than likely it will end up that Eastern is the school that gave him a chance, Oregon is the school that propelled him. Eastern will be an afterthought... Everyone thinks of WIsconsin, not NC state with Russell Wilson...I don't think it will market as well as everyone thinks, and if he fails, that won't be good for anyone. Heck, if he succeeds, it could be worse for EWU because other players will get the idea that they can do the same thing...

Will this happen again? who knows, Cooper could do the same thing next year.

I'm fine if he wants to go to the NFL and start his profession, just don't love the fact he's leaving for another school, especially one that we play week 1.

I really hope that Cooper has been taking notes and if he does decide to do the same thing that he doesn't lay waste to his former teammates with comments through the media.
But I do agree marceagfan5 this is not a good thing for EWU as he will go in as a Duck and not a Eagle and that EWU will be the "one that gave him a chance".

And this is eactly why someone claiming this VA thing is potentially good for Eastern is high on crack. One year later, and we have to be concerned with another top senior potentially leaving. This transfer policy is awful for Eastern and all FCS team who can no longer redshirt players for fear of losing a year of eligibility to transfer.

If class credits were evenly spread over 5 years would that prevent heavily front loading classes and the early graduation?

Patients my young grasshoppers, don't be so quick to assume the worst.
1st VA has to make it on the Field, then we will see what the press makes of it.
This story is very different than Russell Wilson. Wilson, was through school and not plucked from a smaller school, while still in class. If VA succeeds this story will have legs and will continue to give Eastern plenty of good press.

I am sure that our coaches try to recruit the very best athletes possible, and want to develop them to be as good as possible. If so, these issues can and will occur. Do the coaches like it? of course not, but it's a given, that this option will be available to great players. I for one want to see more of these types of players as Eagles. This move by VA is a very risky move and one that many families and high school coaches would not recommend to a player if they were looking out for their best interests. Moving up to the NFL is very rare air. The NFL scouts know talent at any of the levels of college football, this was an unnecessary move by VA and has EGO written all over it. I am sure most other families and friends would not be so bold as to put an athlete in such a risky position.

EWU98, you are no told enough to know that at my age my crack gets smaller and lower, not higher. I'm experiencing old man butt!!

I'm hearing rumors that VA might be in danger of not graduating. Anyone closer to campus heard anything?

Yes, I've been hearing the same rumors. However, they could be just that, rumors. We will all know soon however as graduation is only about a month away.

I've heard the rumors as well. If he didn't graduate, that would create a very odd situation. Wouldn't he then be in no man's land? I suppose he would still have a year of eligibility left, and would have to finish his degree next year before either entering the draft, or finding another school to transfer to. But he couldn't just decide to try to play at EWU. Even if it was legal, I can't imagine that bridge hasn't been burned. It's probably not worth speculating. But then again, what else is there to do right now!

Doesn't he have a bunch of online classes this quarter? I heard a rumor about having to test to get into a class, then pass it, but who knows what you can and can't believe. It will all be worked out soon enough and I'm sure he will be fine (especially with his new major). Could you imagine the circus if he didn't graduate this year...

Yah the conspiracy theorist would be out! The bigger question who would be blamed more?

Either way, it's his bed to lay in. My gut tells me he will be the starter at Oregon at some point in the fall.

Regardless of what happens, I think he's burned every bridge possible in Cheney.
