Bring on the Cardinal!

Great news! So we are scheduled at both San Jose State and Stanford in 2010. Nice Bay Area FBS double check package! With Stanford, San Jose and Davis plus the 8 BSC games that fills the schedule for 2010. I guess that the home Cal Poly game in 2010 will have to be rescheduled.

I don't think we will play SJSU because they pulled from their game with Stanford to play Alabama...but I could be wrong.

SHA Check http://www.nationalchamps.net/NCAA/future_schedules/ San Jose plays at Alabama the first week instead of at Stanford. They had us down for TBA next year and that has been on there for a long time so there must be another open date. Only downside is there will be only 4 home games without Poly but at least both Stanford and San Jose are within driving distance.

I had heard that the Poly game was only a one-year deal...not a home and home (at this point)....I don't think Sperbeck is going to play two FBS teams a year anymore....so our non-conf still might be Stanford, Poly and ucdavis.

I know that the preference is to play one FBS a year but the chance to play Stanford and San Jose it too juicy to pass up. I heard that Stanford offers $225,000 and I think that davis got about $100,000 from San Jose. A good payout and I think we could be competitive in both games.

I thought it was a home and home with Poly. If it was a one year deal we should have got the game at Hornet Stadium since Poly needs us on the schedule far more than we need them.

I guess that Sac State needs Cal Poly's money in 2009.

I don't think $30k is the reason.
You are right, it is a hell of a lot more than $30k. Cal Poly got a sizeable check from Northwestern State for buying out of their game with Cal Poly and Cal Poly used the money to make it worth Sac States time to come down to SLO. I am glad that it worked out and hope to see Sac State on the schedule every year.

I would hate to see Cal Poly on the schedule every year. That means we would be stuck with the same boring schedule every year with only the 1 FBS scheduled team changing (ucd and Poly plus the 8 Big Sky games). As much as this "regional" game would increase fan interests and attendance numbers, it doesn't really benefit Sac State in any way. Plus with Cal Poly stuck in football purgatory that is the Great West, I'd much rather see Sac State use that last opening on the schedule for either a mid to upper teir level FCS school or another FBS school to bring in more money to the program. :geek:

I still would like to see an up, a down, and a peer for the OOC schedule. A challenging game, an easy one to recover, and one on par to test us. Perhaps something along the lines of, oh, say, San Jose for the up, NMHU for the down, and Liberty for the peer. That would do a good job of preparing us for the playoffs but not beat us up too bad to be competitive.

Im fine with playing Poly, ucd and a FBS team every year along with the conf. schedule. Two traditional rivals will always help the bottom line when it comes to fan interest.

The articles say, "the change leaves Stanford with a hole in its 2010 schedule that probably will be filled by Sacramento State or another Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) team."

So its not yet a done deal based on the article.

That is the beauty of playing Cal Poly every year, you get a upper teir level OOC FCS school on the schedule each year. One that you have a history with, one that keeps the travel budget down and one that will help your attendance numbers every other year.

While it is true that Cal Poly needs this game more than Sac State does, it still is a game that is good for the Sac State program for a lot of different reasons.
