Hornets vs. Weber

2. Injuries are significant for the Hornets - lost starting QB and most dynamic RB

Too bad to hear about the injuries. That was a big part of Weber's problems last year. The offensive and defensive lines were hit hard by the injury bug. So far no significant injuries for the team this year. I always hope for the best players to be on the field. Are your starting QB and RB definitely out? What effect will this have on the game?

Just trying to pay homage to my good friend SuperHornet, thought I'm sure he's predicting a 63-2 victory for SAC...

Thanks, Kadeezy.

No, if you'll look over at BigSkyFans or FCSFans, you'll see that I predicted 41-38 Hornets in OT. Weber is NOT Idaho State....
LOL! Weber fans always love a shot taken at the Bungles.

MBT is for sure out this week and possibly the next 4 to six weeks.

Hilliard will be playing and will runover anyone in his way. Shaw was the RB that got a concussion last week, a good RB, but not the starter. He was expected to share a lot of time with Hilliard. No idea if he's good to go for this week though.

Stung, Shaw got the start in week one and two... I'd say that makes him a starter...

Article about the game in today's major Sacto fishwrap...

True, but do you think that may have had something to do with the games being OOC?

As a biased Weber fan, I'm picking Weber to win mainly because of one reason. Cam Higgins. He has owned Sac in his career and is looking very good thus far this season. These are his stats in 3 games vs Sac (all Weber wins by an average score of 35-14) - 57 completions on 83 attempts (68.7%), 915 total passing yards (305/game), 0 interceptions thrown, 13 passing touchdowns, 1 rushing touchdown, and 1 sack. What is most impressive to me is the 0 interceptions and 1 sack. If Cam has struggled with anything during his career it has been turnovers. And only one sack in three games, that's very impressive. I'm guessing Sac fans won't be too upset that this is the last time they have to face Higgins. That said, I seem to be in the minority here. Most boards and media sites I've seen are picking Sac St to win this one.

Fan boards and media sites are all juju, the decision will be made Saturday at 6:05PST.
Yes, Higgins has owned the Sac State defense and will probably do so again this weekend, just hope we can score more points than he does. Thank goodness Toone is gone.

The biggest problem Weber's given Sac since we joined is John Fassel and his quick kicks over the safety's head TWO YEARS IN A ROW. You'd think we'd have remembered the second year....

We do have a new DC so it will be interesting to see how the scheme is to try and knock Higgins off his game. Also I have seen posted elsewhere that when Higgins is pressured, he is prone to throwing the pick. It’s going to be fun to see how this game plays out.

Here's the Weber weekly football release for the game if anyone is interested.

http://www.weberstatesports.com//pdf8/711611.pdf

Here's a sampling:

"SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Saturday’s game is Sacramento State’s 2010 Big Sky Conference opener. ... The Hornets are 1-1. They began the season with a 52-17 loss at Stanford on Sept. 4, but bounced back in their 2010 home field opener with a 31-17 win over Western Oregon State on Sept. 11. ... Since joining the Big Sky in 1996, the Hornets are 2-12 in Big Sky opening games, with both wins coming against Idaho State. ... BRYAN HILLIARD rushed for 107 yards in the win over Western Oregon. Hilliard missed the 2009 season following surgery on both shoulders. ... KYLE MONSON, a junior college transfer, had a 70-yard punt return vs. Stanford. It was the first time he touched the ball as a Hornet. ... CHRISTIAN CLARK, defensive tackle, is on the 2010 Buck Buchanan Watch List as one of the top defensive players in NCAA Division I FCS. ... He was named First Team pre-season All-America by The Sports Network and Phil Steele’s Football Review.
Clark had 10 quarterback sacks in 2009."

"COACH RON McBRIDE QUOTES
ON SACRAMENTO STATE: “I like their running back they got back. He impressed me two years ago. Their front defensive guys are tough, strong and aggressive. They’ve plugged some holes and look to be much improved over last year. Their place has always been a tough place for us to play.”

"WILDCATS ARE OUT OF TOONE
Sacramento State is probably more than happy not to see former WSU wide receiver, Tim Toone (5-10, 175) in uniform. ... In three appearances (he did not have stats in the 2006 game in Sacramento), he had 20 (6.67 per game) receptions for 428 yards (142.67 pre game) and eight touchdowns. In 2007, at home, he had six catches for 128 yards and tied the WSU school record with four touchdown catches. In 2008 he had six catches for 146 yards and one TD in Sacramento, and last year at home he had eight catches for 154 yards and three touchdowns, plus the 95-yard punt return for a score."

Sounds like Sac has a stud D Tackle in Christian Clark. Will he be able to put that needed pressure on Higgins? We shall see.

He's good, but Zack Nash is also on the rise too. It's like a one-two punch. Both are extremely quick off the ball getting around the tackles.
