Hotels near the stadium...

I am headed up to Portland for our game on September 8th, and was wondering if anyone knew any good hotels to stay at that are close to the stadium. It is a group of young alums, so anything relatively cheap and nice would be great. It doesn't have to be a 5-star, but not a roach hotel. Thanks!

Well my personal recommendation is the Portland Hillton & Towers. It's in Downtown Portland and about a 15-20 minute walk to PGE Park. Lots of shops and stuff so it's a safe walk. Plus there is a light rail train (free rides within downtown) that wil take you right from the hotel to PGE Park.

Rob, thanks for the info. I am still looking for a good deal, but have no idea what that part of the city is called. What about the weather? How warm is it usually in Portland around early September?

The stadium is in northwest Portland, but you can stay "downtown" and still be close to get to the game by walking or mass transit.

Early September is the best time of year. The heat of the summer is gone, but the rain hasn't shown up yet. The days should be in the 70s (or low 80s at times), while the nights have a bit of the cooler fall temps. Very pleasant. :-)

Other hotel options: Hotel De Luxe is the closest hotel to the Stadium. University Place isn't the closest - 15 minute walk but it may be the cheapest. http://www.pdx.edu/cegs/uplace.html. It is close the the PSU campus. Others in various price points on SW Broadway (equivalent to 7th Ave. The stadium is on 19th) in the heart of downtown: Paramount, Marriott City Center, Hotel Vintage Plaza, Heathman, Westin, Benson. The Governor is on SW 10th. Cheaper hotels are Four Points by Sheraton Portland, Mark Spencer, Ace Hotel, Days Inn City Center. The city is very walkable. Nothing downtown is really a big walk plus light rail and the street car tie the city together.

Not to mention all the buses in the downtown core are all free and there is no sales tax.

I have the wife talked into visiting Portland for the Northern Arizona game on October 6th. I'm looking forward to it. Is the 24 hour Pancake House on Powell near the Ross Island bridge still open?
