How can we improve our games

I am an intern with Weber St. Athletics and since you are the dedicated fans I would like your opinion. What do like about Weber State football games,(traditions, promos, etc.)? What don't you like? What would you like to see happen?

The most important thing is that we fill our stadium. I would like to see Weber give people huge discounts that have on a purple or white shirt, like let them in for a dollar or some extremely cheap price. By doing it this way you fill you stands plus they are wearing school colors. That is the key element that WSU Football is missing

I think that, your idea is good, but we already have the cheapest tickets in football. I mean you can buy a family season tickets for 8 people for only $85 dollars. That is only a little more than $10 for 5 games. In my opinion the price is not a real obstacle.

The problem with only having cheap season tickets is that not a lot of fans want them, it needs to be a cheap price every game not 10 bucks. This way it becomes attractive to more people rather than just die hards who are going to every game regardless. Besides if they are willing to sell season tickets that cheap whats the big deal. Also maybe they already have but Weber needs to give ever business around the campus some kind of flag or banner to hang during the season to boost community support.

My opinion has always been that we should have free tickets for kids. Possibly 10 and under. I think there are a lot more fans and alumni that would come to games if they could bring the kids for free. I think this alone would improve attendance.

How about doing a meet the players session where the fans can bring the kids and meet and interact with the players. Most big schools do this. The football team has conducted 2 scrimmages that I attended and enjoyed watching during fall camp. These scrimmages were not advertised and only a few die hards attended. I have seen very little advertising for the team this year. Where are the billboards, newspaper adds and more in-depth media coverage? Weber played a some very entertaining games at home last year and attendance was not what it should be. Having a winning season this year will bring more fans to the games.

From my experience, Weber State football has always been a tough sell in the region what with all of the Cougar, Ute, and Aggie fans in the area. But I do feel that more advertising, emphasizing the already inexpensive ticket prices would help big time. $40 for season tickets in general admission is a great price for this level of football. Plus season tickets are so easy to purchase electronically.

Note: Go to the athletics website: http://departments.weber.edu/athletics

Then click on: WSU Football Tickets on Sale Now!

The 2006 season ticket ad is still up. Don't ya think the new 2007 ad should be there instead? Just a thought. :-/

Your greatest and weakest resource is the students. You need to direct your promotions on items for the students, instead of 1 student possibly winning free tuition (that is picked from the directory so they probably aren't there anyway so it never is given away) give away $100-200 each game or a free ipod or something of equal value to a student or fan that is there, you have scanners now that should be able to track who is at the games or you can have them sign up, the goal isn't to have 1 huge prize but to multiple people so students think they have a chance and you will make that back up at the concession stands.

Deep breath and...

Go back to 1995 when we were on the verge of loosing the football program, it was all in the media, advertising, self promoting by the team, etc that saved the program and we had 10,000 + in the stands. All we heard that summer was WSU football, now I never hear anything and I listen to 1320 and 1280 at work every day.

I think this is a great idea, kinda like the basketball games with the drawing to actually have a chance to win something...I should know, in 2002 I won a $13,000 diamond ring. I entered a drawing and then made a foul shot!

I will forward this to one of my friends in our Marketing Dept and see what they think!

The best tradition for fb is the Wing Off! Last year it seemed no one knew much about it. This day needs to be advertised more too. The more people know about this event, the more people will come. I mean, who wouldn't pay 10 bucks for a fb game and free wings?

I pigged out at the wing off last season and went to the game and it was awesome. They should do that at every game!

LOL, I agree it is my favorite game of the year! Nothin beats free wings from Wingers, The Pie, Red Robin, and Ruby River. Too bad the other 3 can't hang with Wingers...they win it every yr!!

Speaking of scrimmages when is the next one?

Ya know a cool promotion might be to draw out for a chance to watch the next game from the President's box. Maybe you and 6-10 fans win and get to spend the game up in the skybox with Ann Milner and meet Coach Mac or some of the players after or before the game. I know I would try to win, even if it was a raffle and cost a buck or two.

Of course that would not draw a ton of fans to the games but to us diehards it would be pretty cool.

Serve Bear!

I know that there will be some significant changes for football games this year. The south end of the stadium(the grass area) will have some things for kids to do, and an area will be roped off for the Wildcat Club Members to meet and greet. I will bring up the suggestion for awarding a fan a game in the presidents box with the AD. I will be posting a message to get help with hanging up football schedule posters all over town. We will be doing this sometime next week. One of the best things that we can do as fans is to bring friends with us to the games!!! Bring those Ute, BYU-Provo & etc fans that don't go to those school home games. We can win them over with a great product on the field this year.

Also, Saturday August 25th at 9:00 there will be a meet the team thing and a short scrimmage. Bring the kids and meet team members and coaches. It will be a good time.

We will be handing out the Football, Soccer, & Volleyball schedule posters on Wednesday August 29 at 4:30. Please meet under the stadium by the new track locker rooms. Thanks so much in advance for your assistance.
