Our record and losses are a combination of things, we can't just blame everything on one situation (injuries, or turnovers, or schedule). We didn't have the injuries (as many) against Wash. and S. Dakota, we turned the ball over against wash, and didn't show up against S. Dakota. The grizzlies game was a battle, we didn't play well, but the Griz Defense at home was also tougher than we have given them credit for. Yesterday, we didn't play great and almost beat a good team with a lot of backups and freshman playing. A lot of our key returning players were still out there, but unfortunately didn't come through. The Bobcats are a pretty good team and did enough to win yesterday.
Fact of the matter is these guys are playing their hearts out, and with the exception of one game (S. Dakota) I have seen this team compete every game, every snap. The ball hasn't bounced our way, and we have been flat out beat 4 times. Last year we had some good breaks go our way, this year we haven't, and sometimes that is how it works.
We still have an outside shot at making the playoffs if we win out, but right now we just need to win 1 game at a time. With the expansion of the playoffs, many 7-4 teams can still get in, we still may not, even if we win out, but there is a shot. Our schedule is easier from here, but we still have Weber at home next week, and Sac and Cal Poly on the road, all 3 of those will be tough games.
Bottom line is the support needs to continue for the team. We gained a lot of momentum from the national championship last year and the fan base grew. Unfortunately with the amount of road games and the 0-4 start we will lose a lot of that now, but we need to do what we can to continue the support and pick up the players. I'm sure these guys are down, and the best thing that could happen is to win next weekend.
Looking forward to a great stretch run and a win against Weber next weekend!
