Corners:
- Grymes (SR) has started 27 games and played in 35 over his career.
- Tracy Carter (JR) has played 23 games over last 2 years
- Bass played in 10 as a frosh last year
- AJ has played in 4
- 6 other players on the roster with no playing time, w/2 JC's
- We have been hearing a lot about Dixon showing well as a RS.
- Good experience and depth here.

Safeties:
- Walker (SR) has started 23 games and played in 37 over his career.
- Thompson started as a JR (12 games) but, injured last year.
- Trey Williams (JR) has played in 22 games the last 2 years
- Njoku (SO) played 12 games last year
- Randall (SO) played 10 games last year
- 4 other players on the roster with no playing time, w/1 JC
- Excellent experience and depth here.

D-Ends:
- Mayowa (SR) started 6 games last year...and has 35 games played over his career.
- Davis (SO) played in 12 games last year
- Forde (SO) played in 12 games last year
- Keener (JR) Played in 9 games last year
- Burgsmueller (SO) played in 12 games but, as a longsnapper.
- 2 others listed on the roster with no playing time, both frosh.
- Good experience and depth

D-Tackles
- Buckley (JR) started 6 games and played in 12
- Kearny (SO) started 4 games and played in 9
- Scott (SR) started 2 games and played in 9
- 3 others on the roster with no playing time, w/ 2 JC's

- Scheidt (SR) started 11 games last year and played in 21 games over his career.
- Muaga (SR) started 13 games over the last 2 years and played in 25.
- Tuala (SR) has played in 8 games.
- 10 others on the roster...mix of Frosh (2), RSF (5), SO (1) and JC's (2)...no playing time.
- Tremendous experience for starters...will need to find strong backups from those with no experience.

OFFENSE
(info from dncke on govandals.net)

O-Line:
- Marboe started all 12 games last year as a Frosh.
- AJ Jones (SR) started 10 games and played in 11 last year.
- Johnson (JR) started 7 games over the last 2 years and played in 14.
- Lisoski (SR) played in 4 games last year
- Beale (SO) played in 1 game last year.
- we have 11 additional folks on the roster with no playing time!! (2 FR, 3RSF, 1SO, 5JR's)
- injuries have thrown a big question mark over this group...that said...we have better experience in terms of games played than most folks would think...and we do have depth in terms of numbers. This group could surprise if they avoid injuries...but, certainly warrant the questions.

QB's:
- Davis (JR) started several games last year.
- no others with any significant playing time.
- Dominque Blackman (JR) looks to be the starter: Redshirted at Old Dominion in the fall of 2010 before transferring to Idaho for spring 2011 ... initially signed with Washington but attended Los Angeles Harbor in 2009 ... at LA Harbor, completed 63 percent of his passes (264 of 417) for 3,711 yards and 35 TDs ... averaged 337.4 yards passing per contest and ran the ball into the end zone six times averaging 13.8 yards per game on carries.
- another question mark. Talent appears to be there between Davis and Blackman...but, time will tell. Bushnell (SR) has been no better than 3rd in depth charts, and 2 unproven, but, talented frosh complete the roster.

RB's:
- Bass (SR) played in 7 games last year and had some illness that prevented him from more playing time.
- Asuaga (SR) played in a lot of games at fullback.
- no other players with any playing time. Handley (RSFrosh) has speed and folks are anticipating his entry...Baker (JR) showed well in Spring and is a workhorse. Cunningham (JR) and Parkins (RSFrosh) round out the rest of the roster.
- This group needs to remain healthy. Talent is there...but, no depth.

TE's:
- Elmo (JR) started 8 and played in 12 last year
- Lagrone (JR) started 7 and played in 23 over the last 2 years.
- Homme (JR) played in 11 games last year.
- 4 others on the roster with no playing time(1FR, 2 RSF, and 1 SO)
- Solid group with good experience and depth.

WR's:
- Veltung (SR) started last 2 years (24), but, has been hindered by injuries.
- Scott (SR) started 12 games last year
- Michiletti (JR) started 4 games and played 11 games last year
- Hatchett (SR) played in 2 games last year
- Posey (SR) played in 14 games over his career
- Trotter (SR) played in 9 games last year
- 9 additional names on the roster with no playing time. (1 FR, 4 RSF, 1 SO, 3 JR's) Only Veltung and Scott excite me on this list, and Veltung need to remain healthy. We need some new names to emerge for the coming year. Major (RS Frosh) seemed to get some good reviews in the spring. Lovett appears to have some wheels and could emerge...who else?

Special Teams:
- Cowan and Farquhar (SR's) are solid with 3 years starting experience.
- Burgsmueller (SO) was solid in his first year as a starting long snapper.

Idaho's season figures are skewed a bit because they improved a lot on defense as the season wore on last year, but never seemed to get a handle on offense all year long.

The Buckley kid showed well at WSU before flunking out, but the talent was always there. Their entire core of LBs is very good, and the best we'll see all year including WSU.

How so? They seemed to get better during the middle of season, allowing more than 30 only once in a 5 game stretch, but they were playing Virginia (21), LA Tech (24), New Mexico State (31), Hawaii (16) and SJSU (29). They allowed more than 40 against their last 3 opponents BYU (42), USU (49), and Nevada (56). They were terrible all year.

I love your energy but I still believe Idaho ends up running away in the 2nd half. Say, 42-13 final score. 24-10 at half....Just a guess.

The holier than thou attitude is the SAME as what we read by Huskies about this same time last year, except there was a LOT more of it. Guess there are not too many fans out there in the lentil fields.

You would think that fans of a team that had just gone 2-10, in the worst conference in FBS, and only returned 12 starters would be a little more down to earth about their chances against a premier FCS team who has won a recent National Championship and has an FBS QB and FBS quality receivers. Oh well, reading their comments after we put them in their place on the field will be extra satisfying. UW got lucky. I have a feeling Idaho will not.

We can't overlook Idaho, I think some of us think that we are going to walk all over Idaho. As bad as Idaho has been they haven't lost to an FCS school since 2003 (the last time they played EWU). They are also going to be the home team, playing their home opener, and they will most likely be favored by 10 points or so.

However, I do think we will win, EWU tends to play well in games they are not favored to win. I just think that Idaho does have the right to think the way they do right now, they see a 6-5 FCS team coming in, who will be breaking in a new QB. We know it is a little bit different, but I can see why Idaho fans are fairly confident.

Looking forward to seeing a lot of you down in Moscow for the first game. Don't really like that its a 6pm kickoff on a thursday night, but it should be a blast and a great game!

I would not look for an easy win and I am sure Baldwin and Co are going to be able to use the close loss in Seattle to inspire the guys to play their best and bring home a win.
Even though we have picked up some good O-linemen and have some experience coming back they will not have been playing together a lot or since Nov of last year. Can't think of a better coach to get the most out of the guys he has to work with than Coach Best!
We will be starting a new QB, regardless of who wins the job, so there may be some inconsistency of play. The Vandals linebackers may be the strongest part of their team so they may be able to capitalize on that inconsistency.
I also think we have a great shot to pop off a nice win to start the season and gain some mo. moving toward that 9-2 record

Our players and coaches can't overlook anyone. Respect every opponent. We as fans however, can, even though I'm not. It will be a game, but I would honestly be shocked if we didn't win. Idaho may not have lost to an FCS team since 2003, but they've only played Idaho State (twice, and nearly lost both times  ), a relatively weak Cal Poly team (and again, almost lost), and transitional North Dakota (twice, but rolled).

W - 09-16-2006 - 27 - Idaho St. - 24 - Moscow, ID (ISU was 2-9 in 2006)
W - 09-08-2007 - 20 - Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo - 13 - Moscow, ID (CP was 7-4 in 2007, but lost at home to UND)
W - 09-06-2008 - 42 - Idaho St. - 27 - Moscow, ID (ISU was 1-11 in 2008)
W - 09-02-2010 - 45 - North Dakota - 0 - Moscow, ID (transitioning from D-II)
W - 09-10-2011 - 44 - North Dakota - 14 - Moscow, ID (transitioning from D-II)

I don't post often, well, hell this is #3, so frankly never, but I just had to on this one.

Eastern will beat Idaho. To me, and probably anyone who knows FCS football, would agree that Idaho is the under-dog in this game. An Idaho win would be an upset in my opinion. Honestly, could Idaho even vie for the Big Sky Championship this year?

Just when I think that some of their fans couldn't possibly be any more retarded, one of 'em delivers gems like this. :ohno:

They are an FBS school, so their fans should, after all, believe that they will win this game.

But, as history has shown, Eastern will most likely be in this game in the 4th quarter and should have a chance to steal the win. Judging from a few of the comments, Idaho Vandals are most likely formulating their predictions based off of playing a weak UND squad the past couple of years.

We'll move the ball on the Vandals, but we will need a little balance because they will undoubtedly sell out to try and stop the pass. I think the bigger question is on te defensive side of the field right now. This game is winnable but the defense has to step up and create some takeaways.

If we can stuff the run, I would feel pretty comfortable with Blackmon throwing it around. His last season of playing was in 2009 at JC. Redshirted in 2010 at ODU, and sat out per transfer rules last year.

Dominique Blackman...initially signed with Washington but attended Los Angeles Harbor in 2009 ... at LA Harbor, completed 63 percent of his passes (264 of 417) for 3,711 yards and 35 TDs ... averaged 337.4 yards passing per contest and ran the ball into the end zone six times averaging 13.8 yards per game on carries... at Carson High School, earned second-team All-City as a senior... named to PrepStar’s “Dream Team” as the nation’s No. 112 overall prospect ... Rivals.com rated him the No. 95 recruit in California ... as a junior, completed 123-of-215 attempts for 1,673 yards and 14 touchdowns ... also ran for eight TDs as a junior in 2006

It's smart to respect the Vandals, but we have the talent and depth to crush them. If we do not win this game, it will be because we relive the errors of last fall's opener. We've stockpiled the country's best WRs, have a seasoned, talented QB, a defense and OL that should be much improved, and even have a quality stable of RBs. I'm not afraid to say I'm confident about our chances.

Our only true connection from last year is South Dakota.

Eastern Washington traveled to South Dakota and lost 30-17.

The same time - North Dakota traveled to Moscow and got railed 44-14 -after a very shakey Vandal start.

North Dakota ended their season beating South Dakota 38-37.

North Dakota ended their season at 8-3, and if you remember - scared Fresno State.

Bottom line is - if a team decides to overlook these teams - it can bite them in the butt... Much like UW did to EWU... or Fresno did to North Dakota or how the Vandals did in the first half of the game...

But did any of those teams get the win? No...

EWU better hope that Idaho overlooks them -which they won't because everyone knows we haven't played up to our potential... so we have something to prove.

Idaho should blow this EWU team out of the Dome... for 4 quaters. Not like the 2 quaters against North Dakota.

Eastern fans need to understand that we destroyed a much better North Dakota team. There is a difference in athlete. You will find this out.

What an ignorant tool.

Holy crap....

I am nearly speechless about the ignorance that Idaho fans are showing in that thread..It's not even worth talking to them about it. Idaho is the biggest joke in the FBS and I don't see them being any better this year than they were last year. I would not say I'm positive EWU will win this game, but if they don't, I'll be very disappointed. I would love nothing more than to beat them badly and shut their fans up. WOW!! I'd compare them to Montana fans but at least UM has a history of success to back up their ignorance and overconfidence..

Pretty much sums it up.

JC speed is a stretch, but they will find out first hand.

Also, I'm pretty sure UI gets a lot of JC players.

What's more, does anyone really believe that lower-level WAC players are any more talented than the average kid playing at EWU, UM, MSU, etc?

As far as starters go - nope. Second stringers, maybe. But I'd believe it for third stringers. IMO if Idaho wins this one it'll be because of depth. But, as we've found the last few years EWU has also been developing some depth too.
