Idaho Scouting Report

As a fan, I will show the Vandals respect, even if most of their fans give us none....call us "DII", etc. fully knowing we are not DII and haven't been since 1983. It's unwise to underestimate your opponent in any sport and I'm sure neither team is doing that. They seem willing to stay with the commitment to play FBS football, so I respect that even if I think they're going to have a hard time doing it after the WAC folds. The conference re-alignment stuff isn't over yet, so we'll see what happens. What I DO resent is people telling me that there's not good football at the FCS level or that the Big Sky is so much inferior to the brand of football that's played in the WAC. It clearly is not, and any educated football fan knows that. Hell, even the UW fans that came on this site last season thought EWU was a much more dangerous team than anything in the WAC. Well, a healthy EWU team... :?

I am cautiously optimistic about this game - I will feel better once fall camp is complete and we come out of it without a bunch of stupid injuries and knowing who our #1 Qb is. Everything rides on that position in this offense. For what it's worth, apparently Adams has looked very sharp so far.

Love it!! How do you know those fans so well?

I know them well; I am the only one in my family that didn’t graduate from the University of Idaho.
I was the only one in my family to see that the good guys wear black and red!

I will gladly pay homage to whoever remembers where the "Idaho - Fuck You !!!" chant started. This became a mainstay at Eastern for many years.

We used to chant these:

G rated: "Idaho . . . Potato!"

or

PG-13 Rated: "I - da - ho? U - da -ho!!"

Has anyone received tickets for this game purchased online? I bought mine just last week, so maybe I should be patient. Also, have any of you organized a tailgate? I'm taking the day off and need a party to crash.

I bought mine last week too, nothing yet.

How many fans can the Kibbie Dome hold? I can't imagine this is going to be a very packed place, a Thursday night game at 6pm (most people will have to take half a day off) and its the Day before Labor Day weekend. My guess is most Idaho fans will think it is going to be an easy victory and not even show up. I think the timing of this game really works in our favor.

I think the Eags will have a very strong showing of fans down there. If someone is setting up a tailgate, let me know, I'm more than willing to bring some drinks/food down to help.

3 weeks from today...cant wait!

I think the KD holds 16k

I think the crowd may surprise. Vandals know their season will not include many wins and feel this could be one of the very few so they would like to witness such an event.

For all you EWU Eagles...
Here's cheering for a victory in Moscow.

The Thursday night game will precede the Friday morning press conference announcing their return to 1AA (or possibly Division II with the other Idaho school and I don't mean Boise).

EWU's win will cement the Vandals to FCS and the death of the WAC as a football conference confirmed and final.

The only reason any FCS program does not compete well against FBS schools is the depth of the squad. They wear us out in the 4th quarter and have more coaches looking for exploitations.

This...is a great post.

I'm sitting on the shores of Lake Chelan and just spent the last half hour reading the Vandal forum. Wow! What a bunch of idiots! Our folks have done a nice job with facts and reason. Their folks, well, let's just say they aren't as smart as N. Dakota St. fans. That's saying something...

Interesting preview of the WAC.

Team That'll Disappoint:
Idaho – Where are the sure-thing wins going to come from? Eastern Washington is better than most lower end FBS teams, while it’ll take a major upset to come up with any wins until New Mexico State comes to town. The offense needs a ton of work and reloading under new offensive coordinator Jason Gesser, but will it do enough to overcome the always struggling defense? Don’t assume wins over UTSA or Texas State.

:?

And a preview on the Vandals.

http://cfn.scout.com/2/1206014.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

What to watch for on offense: Will there be more pop and production? The 2010 Vandals might have had problems, but they were able to come up with six wins helped by a passing game that ripped up close to 300 yards per game. Even though those Vandals all but ignored the running game, the offense was able to crank up points early. Last year’s offense couldn’t seem to do anything right finishing 111th in the nation and averaging close to 300 yards per game total. Worst of all, the passing attack was among the most inefficient in the nation, finishing 116th in passing efficiency, and the points weren’t there. With Bass a good-looking back and the receiving corps strong, the yards should start to come.

What to watch for on defense: Is it possible the Vandals will finally have a run defense? It wasn’t bad last season, but that was only because it was so easy to bomb away on the pass defense. Now the potential is there for the run D to actually be a major plus with a good-looking tackle pair in Quayshawne Buckley and Dontae Scott as good as any Akey has had, while Scheidt and Robert Siavii form one of the WAC’s better outside linebacking tandems. There might not be any hope against the LSU running game, but the front seven should be able to hold up well against just about everyone else.

The team will be far better if … there’s some semblance of offense. The attack stalled dead way too often failing to come up with 300 yards in eight of the 12 games and struggling to hit 21 points in seven games. It’s not like the WAC has a who’s who of top-shelf defenses, and with the Idaho D looking potentially stronger and better with plenty of promising parts and more depth than usual, if the O can get back to the 2010 form the results should be outstanding.

The schedule: he Vandals have their forget-about-it non-conference paydays at LSU and North Carolina, but the slate isn’t that bad. Wyoming is beatable in Moscow, as is Eastern Washington. However, a trip to BYU comes up in November during the heat of the WAC season. Going on the road to face Louisiana Tech and Utah State means there’s no margin for error at home in conference action. Back-to-back road games at Texas State and Louisiana Tech in mid-September could make-or-break the season.

From Twitter: Idaho Coach Rob Akey has named Dominique Blackmon, a 6'5, 255 pound Junior from Los Angeles Harbor College as starting QB.

I got mine a few days ago as well. Now I just need to find a ride. :?

Blackmon is 6'5" 255 ??? I thought this guy was supposed to be mobile? Are we just talking straight line mobile? If not, this one might be a boxstacker.

I've heard he is pretty mobile.

Those clowns over on the Idaho board are now citing the fact that Blackman had more BCS offers coming out of HS as a reason for why he is a better Qb than Padron.    I'm wondering how many scholarship offers from BCS schools guys like John Friesz and Doug Nussmeier had.

If Blackman is some sort of world-beater then why did he transfer from Old Dominion...an FCS (or what they like to call "Division II") school. :ohno:

Not to mention that he wasn't even good enough to play at ODU, they redshirted him.
