If we go all the way in the CIT, do we keep hosting?

We have basically double the attendance of any other school left, but over on UNI's forum some posters have this high and mighty attitude about this tournament. They're saying they wouldn't schedule most of these teams in the regular season and that they are better than this. Calling themselves the #1 seed in this tournament. Maybe because they are from the "high and mighty" MVC?

A large portion of the people on their board seem to think they'll get home games the whole way through if they make it to the title game. Wouldn't the CIT rather have the team that's had the better attendance host the title game? :twocents:

What does everyone think? They could probably outbid us to host it...but it seems to me that the game would be better off at an arena where the fans are more passionate and actually show up to support their team...

uh half the teams in tuesday's quarterfinals are from the mvc so i think that is correct for uni to say they would not schedule most of these teams in their ooc. :ohno:

they did have that magical run to the sweet 16 recently. i am sure we would be saying the same thing too. also they do have some impressive wins this yr beating a ranked wichita and they also beat creighton. it would be a great matchup whether in ogden or cedar falls. i hope to see it happen but both teams need to wins its quarters or the argument is moot.

1st rd
wsu: 2,309
uni: 2,450

2nd rd
wsu: 6,113
uni: 3,025

arenas
wsu: Dee Events Center is a 12,000-seat dedicated basketball arena
uni: McLeod Center is a 6,650-seat multi-purpose arena

they cant even fill their arena which is equivalent to our season attendance average so why should we not get an opportunity to host them? i saw they had 3,800 hosting st mary's though it was during december break, but they didn't sell out hosting a ranked wichita. i wonder if weber could have got 10,000 for st. mary's even during the break... uni could have turned down the cit if they are too good for the field.

but we all know its not just about attendance. we went to LMU last yr 2nd rd.

THE MVC is a better conference than the Big Sky, but that doesnt mean that UNI is better than us. If Weber continues to out sell the other schools, I dont see why the CIT wouldnt continue to send teams to Ogden.

It sounds like UNI feels that they are too good for this tournament. Why in the world did they accept the invitation then. Sounds to me like they are trying to justify getting something they don't deserve and have not earned. Maybe they have the money to out bid anyone else. If that is what happens, then we go to their place and beat their Illini a$$s. It all turns out the same.

Personally, I'm happy to be hosting the next game. Anything after that is another feather in our cap.

The fans need to keep showing up and the team needs to keep winning. That is all there is to be done. After that, its out of our hands. :coffee:

CIT title games
2012 Attendance: 6,154 (Mercer @ USU)
2011 Attendance: 2202 (Santa Clara @ Iona)
2010 Attendance: 6,205 (Pacific @ Missouri State)
2009 Attendance: 8,118 (Old Dominion @ Bradley)

If you look at uni posts both recently and in past years, and in both basketball and football, it's apparent they think quite highly of themselves. I'm not saying that the MVC or uni aren't strong, but uni might live just a little bit on the coattails of the Creighton's, Witchita's, and even the Bradley's of the conference. Yeah, they've gotten a few big wins against these programs on their home floor, but don't most conference powerhouses lose occasionally to weaker teams, especially on the road? WSU@MSU comes to mind this year. Bradley, has a few more wins under it's belt since last losing to uni by 3-- who knows.

I think Weber looks as strong on paper as any team in the tournament and the blowout of CP and thumping of AF certainly doesn't hurt any. We already know Weber has the potential to, and usually does, trump these other teams in attendance, even though the lack of support is personally disappointing to me. Bottom line: Weber has a great chance to host-out if they can keep winning. Nothing would be sweeter than adding injury to insult by hosting an overconfident, pouting uni team in the semi's (or even championship) and reeling them back to Earth with a good old fashioned whooping, courtesy our WEBER STATE WILDCATS!

Attendance guru aka WILDCAT,

1. what can we expect for the quarterfinal?
2. Semi if we win?
3. Title on a tues at home? Record is 8100

I dont know, my crystal ball wasnt working too well when we hosted Cal Poly, but I feel that there is still excitement in Weber State basketball this late into the year, and that line into the ticket office was nice to see to. Im' thinking our Wednesday night attendance will be 4,489

Based off the information I've gathered from Jerry Bovee, WSU will do everything in its power to continue hosting throughout the tourney, assuming we keep winning. It's good to know WSU is making a push for it, even if the CIT decides against it at some point (perhaps a championship game). That being said, announcing that quarterfinals tickets were already on sale during the game on Saturday was a brilliant move by the athletic department. There was a line out the door for tix for Wednesday's game before the horn even sounded on WSU's win over Air Force. I anticipate an even bigger crowd than Saturday, and if the Wildcats keep winning and keep hosting, the attendance will only grow. That bodes well for our bidding hopes. :-D

Home attendance averages of teams left in the tourney

1. Bradley- 6,557
2. Weber State- 6,364
3. ECU- 4,616
4. O. Roberts- 4,607
5. Evansville- 4,463
6. Northern Iowa- 4,253
7. UC Irvine- 1,639
8. Canisius- 1,591
9. Loyola MD- 1,345

IF all home teams were to win in the quarters:

1. Weber State- 6,364
2. ECU- 4,616
3. Northern Iowa- 4,253
4. Canisius- 1,591

plus each home game that takes place every schools average is getting lower.

of the 9 remaining which arenas/teams have the most potential for a big crowd in the next round if attendance increases each rd?

I just ordered my tickets today for the game Wednesday. They lady said they have already sold more than what they did for the Air Force game. She said her will call pile was overflowing and its only Monday. They have clear till Wednesday to sell more tickets. Also if we win Wednesday we will for sure host another game on Saturday. Heck ya. I predict a crowd of at least 7k on Wednesday and 9k on Saturday. This is awesome. Is it bad that Im kind of glad we are hosting these games instead of playing in the NCAA? I cant wait for the next game. Lets go WEBER!!!!

this is great news! we have the largest arena of all teams remaining. if this is accurate that means we have already sold more tkts than most of the field's arenas capacity.

7k+ would be pretty impressive for a week night but i agree if we could make it to a saturday night home game we could get over 9,000.

same thoughts...it's exciting & "fantastic" as Coach Rahe said, to see these 'CATS set a few records & find success!! Not sure this fan would trade it for Montana's tourney experience this yr. Granted the limelight is on NCAA, but as 'WSUProf' so aptly mentioned in a earlier thread on it "...Given the talent diff. between conf's, BSC teams really need...good matchups to pull off the NCAA upset re: WSU over UNC..."
And not saying Wildcats wouldn't have "showed" better against Syracuse...still felt it would be a double digit loss. It's been a FUN year to follow Weber State basketball. Coach Rahe is such a great, modest guy, he's earned my respect, even if this is it for wins. Don't think so, cuz these CATS are crazy good to watch! :thumb: GET OUT & SUPPORT THESE GUYS at the Dee!

I got my tix for Wednesday's game right after the AF game and the ticket office was packed and lined up in the concourse. They also announced Saturday that season ticket holder's seats would be held until today (Monday) at 6:00 PM. If tickets have already sold that well for a Wednesday night game, that is exciting. The energy from the crowd for the AF game was probably as good as it has been for quite some time. That is something that has been somewhat missing in recent years, with some exceptions.

"Is it bad that Im kind of glad we are hosting these games instead of playing in the NCAA?"
No way. This has been exciting for us fans to be able to host (and win) these games and the experience for the non-seniors is invaluable, not to mention a great experience for Bam & Mook. If Weber can win this tournament, it will do much more for the program, fans, and players than (probably) getting spanked in March Madness ever would have.

Last week the Poll Question on the Dan Patrick show was whether you would rather make the NCAA tournament and lose in the opening round (1st four or round "2") or win another tournament. Hard to say. Of course since making the NCAA tournament for Weber means winning the Big Sky tournament I'd have to say I'd go with that. Would like to see another banner hanging in the Dee that says Big Sky champs.
But it is hard to argue with watching more home games. Plus, more games this year is just more practice for the underclassmen for next year.
