Hard to tell before the first season is over let alone the first game.

All I can say is that I hope he is the right coach.

Curious as to what brought this on??? A bit late ,isnt it?? If anyone paid attention to just the talk and walk this new staff brought in , one would see we are already ahead of the game compared to the last bunch!!

I was bored and the football board hasn't seen much action. I was reading the UNC Football facebook page. It's a bunch of old bears, guys like Leachman brothers, McGuffy and Brian Munroe. Their comments are very Pro-Earnest and they're all excited for the guy. However, They're his buddies. However, that doesn't mean we got the right guy.

I know we haven't even seen spring ball yet, but it's worth the discussion. Just a few more weeks until a new era starts. BTW, I saw someone voted NO, and mrlippy was on here. He's very anti-Collins.

Bored,eh?? Pretty funny!! Yea football has been pretty quiet. It also means we may have the right guy!!! Geez, we gave the last guy 5 years, lets at least give Collins a few months. Lol. I think he is already raising the excitement AND BAR around here. I say give him 100% backing !!

I think UNC is fortunate to get a guy like Collins, he's miles ahead of Downing. UNC needed to get back to the basic, finding someone that knows UNC and Colorado, which Collins does. He's a young, and hungry coach. He's going to bring a ton of fire to this program. From what I have been reading in the paper, he's been pushing these kids a lot harder, which I like.

You can tell even by his recruiting class that it was a lot better than anything Downing did. He's the right guy for the job. Will he lead UNC into the playoffs next year? Probably not, but I bet he'll put a better product out on to the field.

C'mon! Only 6 votes?

Okay, I voted. Voted yes on the sole fact that the program seems to have a bit of energy (from what little I can tell).

Pretty lame to bring this up while having no problem with winning, what, 8, 9, games in 5 years with at least a third of those against DII teams.

It takes a pretty low life to try and stir up shit in February.

It's an off season topic. The board has been dead for a few weeks so I thought I'd bring up pertinent subject up. There are plenty of people that think Earnest just got the job because Jay screwed up the search AND because he Earnest's friends wanted him and that's it.

Even if everything you said is true about UNC botching the hiring process (which it could be) it doesn't mean that he isn't the right coach for the job.

I agree. I think Collins is the best fit for the job right now, is he the RIGHT guy for the job? That's unknown at this point, but he's not no Downing. I think Jay did screw up the hiring process, but trust me I'd rather have Collins over Logan any day. Now that would've been an even bigger screw up. After Logan turned the job down it made it look like Collins was just a back up plan, which isn't true, Collins was a way better candidate than Logan.

We won't know if Collins is the right guy for the job until probably after his first season.

Ok, although I think this is a VERY PRE-MATURE poll I will give the post the benefit of the doubt since the author as repeated he was just trying to stir up the board. That said, what are the barometers for measuring if Coach Collins is the right coach?

From my perspective if you are asking now in February I'd say yes based on the new attitude he has brought to the program and a pretty good looking (on paper) recruiting class based on the amount of time they had to put one together. Not sure what else you could base it on...

As far as his first season is concerned how many wins does it take to be seen as the "right coach"? A undefeated season? 9, 8, 7 or 6 wins? A league championship? a playoff birth? Does he get a grace period for playing with a team in a new system? How do you judege this? All yet TBD I guess...

I think next season's expectations are for a different thread. However, we do have talent coming back and Scott did not leave the cupboards bare. We go toe-to-toe with the eventual national champs tells you something right there. Plus, Downings last two recruiting classes were pretty good.

COULD NOT AGREE WITH YOU MORE!!!

I voted yes, because you have to give him the support now and the benefit of the doubt for the first year or two years.

Plus I WANT it to be true!

From what I've heard talking to a couple players in my classes, they really like Collins and he is really pushing them to their best and is setting the bar really high with the players. Also apparently he is stressing discipline and is a complete 180 from what Downing was (as a more relaxed and lenient coach).
I couldn't tell you what the overall consensus is, but from the bits and pieces I've heard about from some players- I really think he is a great choice.

I'm not sure we will have to wait that long to win with Earnest. As mentioned before from posters such as myself and others, Scott really did a nice job bringing in young talent the past couple years. If Collins and his staff are good coaches they'll be able to utilize this talent. Maybe top half of the conference finish this year?
