It's Simple: Go out and Compete

No more excuses about the youth and getting the timing down. Please don't disgrace yourselves anymore than you have done. The home crowd will be behind you if the effort is there regardless of the outcome.

Prediction: Hornets 24 EWU 17

Wow. Where to begin. Can a true "hornutluver" really call this year's team a disgrace? A disgrace is when African Americans were hosed down by police during the Civil Rights Movement. A disgrace is someone who sells out their country in exchange for cash. A disgrace is Tanya Harding and her boyfriend trying to take the competition out at the knees. A disgrace is when former Hornet football players throw rocks off an overpass to hit on coming traffic.

Do you really think this year's Sac State football team has done anything to bring shame, reproach, or dishonor to them or the school? This football team has only lost to a Mountain West team that a Pac 10 team beat in the waning seconds. This football team lost to Cal Poly who showed that their #12 ranking in the nation was legitimate.

It is the fans bringing all the negativity who are wearing the rosy colored glassed with unrealistic expectations. Sure they finished 6-6 last year, but take a look at those wins. One was against a Div. II team, an NAIA team, and 3 wins against lower tier Big Sky teams, and frankly a win against that school across the causeway who was in a down year.

Your posts make it sound like you have an agenda against Sperbeck. You write, "both are so full of themselves (Sperbeck and Tisdale) and major control freaks..." or "he doesn't know what his needs are and he is over his head."

Besides your hiding behind a pseudonym and taking cheap shots at the head coach, Sperbeck's crime, I guess, is that he raised expectations by saying the Hornets could compete. He didn't say win a Big Sky title, but compete against the conference's upper tier. We haven't even played a Big Sky game, and people are "panicking."

Sperbeck from the Sac Bee, Sept. 17; "There's no doubt in my mind the program's getting better," Sperbeck said. "The level of competition is better out here. The level of players all-around, from the first guy on the roster to the last guy, has improved.

"We have to get that going over a period of time. This year could be a year where you may see it. It may be another year. I would not be surprised if this team jumped up and had a lot of success."

He sure sold me a bill of goods.

As for this whole youth argument, it is not about youth but experience. Even hornutluver acknowledged that we have an "unproven LB corps" and that the receivers are still trying to "gel." In the running game, you have your top leading rusher out for the year. Wilkins, a junior, missed almost the entire season last year. That leaves you with Dailey, a sophomore, who played a limited amount his freshman year at UW. Next in line is Sam McKowan, a freshman. You lose your top wide-receiver, and bring in two JUCO transfers who are trying to make the transition to 1aa. If you want offer up constructive criticism, and it has been done, Jason Smith has not been sharp or in tune with the new receivers.

One of the new linebackers is a converted safety, and the others are inexperienced. You lose your star safety at Cal Poly before the 2nd half is over and his replacement gets burned.

The point is, despite the euphoria of beating that school across the causeway last year and finishing 6-6, it was a team that wasn't that good. It isn't the end of the world. It is definitely not a disgrace. We still have all the conference games ahead of us. No need to panic.

I completely agree with SacRat. We lost two games that we were predicted to lose. I think we need to wait and see what this season will bring. There is still a lot of football to be played.

Wow indeed. The hyperbole reaches new depths. Disgrace, now, is it? And radio interviews as an opportunity for public apologies by the HC because the team was pounded in two games in which they were consensus underdogs? THAT will build morale and get the program heading in the right direction, all right. And more along the same lines. Dissecting games and second guessing coach and player performance is what these boards are all about, but this is drifting into weird territory.

Passion is one thing. I get the long-suffering fan syndrome. But there is something a bit out of round if your misery index is so tied to how the local state college football team does, I don’t care where you went to school or how long you have been following the program. Get a grip!

Here’s a prediction. They will probably lose to EW in a close game because the secondary at this stage will not be able to contain their potent passing attack. Do we need to raise the suicide barriers on all the local bridges? Hammer burning bamboo shoots into our cuticles? Imprison the coaching staff for raising our expectations too much?

In my ignorance and innocence, I’ll go to as many games as I can, enjoy the tailgating and adult beverages, and any wins that come our way. I fully expect there to be some good ones. If they lose, I’ll be OK after a few days, somehow. The fright wig eventually comes off, the body paint gets washed away, and life goes on.

I am Dos Centavos and I approved this message, which will be my last btw, so don’t waste too much effort in this echo chamber ripping my post. I realize that as a newbie I can’t possibly understand the pain felt by some here, and I don’t think I want to.

This is the post of the year! Bravo Rat!!!

Keep posting. Don't despair. Your perspective is needed and is fair. We need more particpation not less. I believe in this staff and this team but its ok for people to express their opinions and to be passionate in their view points. Sometimes its hard to tell if people criticize because they care or because they just love to criticize and stir up the pot. But you know what, I'm glad to see new posters and hope you will continue to come on her and express your viewpoints and not let the naysayers discourage you. See you at the tailgate with some ice cold adult sodas!

<Standing Ovation> ;)

Dont get your hopes down yet, season is still young, and conference games are just begining. Keep your chins up. Remember it took Weber 40 years to win a share of the BSC crown again, dont get me wrong I dont think it will take Sac 40 years to win the title, its just I know how you all feel, and how frustrating it is to watch your team struggle.

You got one Wildcat fan on your side this season, go out and surprise some teams, (except Weber State of course).

But you have a successful basketball program to ease the sting. We have tennis.

You might want to begin by apologizing. I picked our beloved Hornets to WIN. And yes, I don't think much of Sperbeck. Despite that, they have a shot to win this week.
