ISU has offered 6'4" QB Robert Kvinsland of Peninsula HS (Gig Harbor, WA)...

In my view, with Idaho's demise as a football school and BSU playing big time football, the Boise valley is now a prime recruiting target for ISU. The Boise valley could give ISU a large recruiting base that ISU has always lacked. I hope we continue to get great players out of Boise.

ISU had 16 players on the roster this season from the Boise Valley, including significant contributors like Mangum, McSurdy, Bagley and Jenkins. They have really established a solid foothold there.

I believe we need a punt return specialist and a traditional style punter. We averaged last in return punts in the Big Sky with only a 4 yard average. Kramer could have done that running backwards. I know Kramer will never give a scholarship to a traditional punter but I do not care for the roll punt, rugby style, or grandpa style punter after 3 years as there is no hang time and not much distance. CJ Reyes was probably one of the best roll punt punters I have ever seen but the roll punts are not really effective other than hoping the football will bounce for distance without a return. We need a punter that can punt with distance and hang time to help out our defense. Too many close calls for punts being blocked or actually being blocked with a roll style punter.

I would not wast the scholarship. The blocked punts are not the punter but the protection. The reason we don't have a big return specialist is because Kramer tells them not to take it most of the time to be safe. The blocks that occurred or returns that happened is because of a inexperienced special teams. It will get better. ISU needs to get some pass rush DE and better DBs.

I doubt Kramer would give a scholarship to a high school or JUCO punter also BengalSapper as he has stated he would not waste a scholarship on a punter or kicker. We have to remember that we are losing CJ Reyes who perfected the roll punt over the last 3 years.

As you mentioned BengalSapper, the last couple of years our punt returners and kick off returners always play it safe and do not return the ball much. It would be exciting to see a punt returner or kick off returner like some past Bengals in Tavoy Moore or Andrew Benavides.

I believe that this guy is committed to come to ISU to punt. http://www.snowbadgers.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=857&path=football" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

He averaged 37.2 yards per punt at Snow College. Also, played back up quarterback for the Badgers. His rushing numbers look pretty solid, 17 carries for at just over 8 yards per carry. I think the roll punt will live on and Jewell appears to be the same mold as C.J. Reyes. A former HS QB with very good numbers, gives you some run threat and some passing threat as a roll punter.

I have a love hate relationship with the Kramer punting style. I cheer it when it works and bitch about it when it does not. Either way, ISU only had a net of 35.0 yards per kick. That number needs to improve, and the punting unit as a whole needs to not make the mental mistakes that lead to blocked punts.

Immediate needs are DL, both end and tackle, a JC tackle and End with one or two Freshman. We also need at least one JC LB and a couple of high school LB'ers. This should be the year the focus changes to the Defense. The offense will take care of itself, a QB, 1 or 2 WR, 1 RB, 2 OL, and a TE should keep everything going.

Committed:
1 LB/WR
1 DE
1 DT/OT
1 punter

I know that DL and DB are the big point of emphasis this recruiting period. I believe that they will be bringing in several defensive players this weekend. I think the instate kids and the QB offer will be here.

Boisebengal posted not too long ago on QB Transfer - I think there's a very good chance that we will get a JC transfer or D1 drop-down QB to compete with the others. In fact, I'm so confident that I'll prove it to you in February.

I have heard nothing on recruiting or signing a JC transfer or D1 drop-down QB. I guess anything is possible during recruiting and signing of players.

I agree, defense is the area needed.

I would say that since they offered a hs QB that the likely chance of taking a dropdown or transfer was reduced. I think they really like the QB,s on the roster.

I agree. I do not know what boisebengal was thinking about wanting Chad Chalich from the Idaho Vandals. I not even sure Chad Chalich is leaving the Vandals or wants to come to ISU as there is nothing in the media about that other than talk. I think boisebengal just does not think our backup QB's to Arias are very good. These QB's have not even played very much other than getting practice reps. We have to remember Kramer and Bailey recruited and signed these QB's so they are our future just like Arias was when he backed up Yost for two years.

quote from boisebengal on transfer QB - At the beginning of the season Arias was head and shoulders much better than Delacensarie and the others -- it wasn't even close. And I'm not sure if the others are ready to step in and assume the responsibility next season. Big separation between Arias and the others. Kramer and staff have to find the very best person they can to run the offense, and why wouldn't they bring someone in to compete for the job? I think there's a very good chance that we will get a JC transfer or D1 drop-down QB to compete with the others. In fact, I'm so confident that I'll prove it to you in February.

Well, boisebengal - are you sure you are going to prove it to us in February? lol

If Kramer was 100% convinced that one of the pups would be the man then why would he say this?

“It could be a walk-on that’s on our program,” Kramer said. “It could be a full scholarship guy that’s in our program. It could be a transfer that comes into this program. It’s never done until (offensive coordinator) Don Bailey says that’s our guy.”

If he goes with a youngster, we will all be pulling for that person. Maybe the next great signal caller is already in the program. It would be nice to have a 3 or 4 year guy. However, Kramer never said the door was closed. Remember a number of kids decide to transfer AFTER SPRING BALL when they find out where they sit in the pecking order.

I think you are being a bit premature my little Billy Gloat friend...

Chalich is transferring to Montana.

I doubt it Bengalcub - Kramer and Bailey just offered QB Robert Kvinsland and we already have James Delacenserie and Tanner Gueller on the team. If Kramer or Bailey was thinking JUCO or drop down they would have done it last season to back up Arias so he would have been ready for the 2015 season. James Delacenserie will be the starting QB going into spring ball and Tanner Gueller will be his backup unless he can beat James out during spring ball. I doubt a walk-on will start at QB over scholarship players in James and Tanner.

As we squabble over how good the back up QB is, I'm more concerned about slowing down other offenses. If we don't break records next year I won't be suprised. If we can't stop other teams I'd be very disappointed. We need some lean meat on defense and a couple of mean Bulls on the d-line.

At the beginning of the season there was quite a bit of separation between Arias and the other quarterbacks on the team. Furthermore, one or more of the QBs we have on the team could leave on their own or Kramer could run them off, making room for a JC or Division 1A drop down transfer. Quite often QB's just leave on their own if they have a strong hunch they'll never get to play. But if we don't end up getting a transfer, that's fine by me and I'll eat crow.
