Jason Smith out for 3 weeks

Hammerhead Dad said:
Jason Smith did NOT have surgery on his ankle. He did have minor surgery, but it had nothing to do with his ankle. I'm not going to say what the surgery was because its private information, but I can assure you it was not ankle surgery. He will likely be ready for the Montana game. Don't forget we have a bye after this week at NAU so he has a couple of weeks to heal up.

Per the Sacramento Bee (which is not how I found out about it):

Sac State quarterback undergoes minor surgery
By John Schumacher - [email protected]

Sacramento State sophomore quarterback Jason Smith will miss Saturday's game at Northern Arizona after undergoing minor surgery on Monday, Hornets coach Marshall Sperbeck said Tuesday.

The outpatient procedure was not related to the high ankle sprain that kept Smith out of two games before he returned to throw for 307 yards and two touchdowns in a 41-31 victory over Portland State last Saturday.

Well... Minor surgery or surgery... Which ever you would like to choose is up to you. But like I said in the beginning; Jason Smith underwent surgery (be it major or minor it doesn't matter) on his ankle and the earliest he could return is in three weeks for the Montana game.

I could have sworn I said that in my first post.

Now I apologize if it wasn't his ankle, but I'm told directly from sources from the team that it was. I do not see why they would lie about it, but for the benefit of the doubt, I'll say they could be wrong. However, this is not the issue. My sole purpose for telling you guys this was to keep you updated and to let you know that Jason won't be playing this week.

You're still not jiving with the article, THR. According to the Bee, the surgery had nothing to do with the ankle at all.

Of course, surgery is surgery, and it will take awhile to recover, as everyone knows.

Alright. Well if it's not his ankle, I apologize.

I'll try to be a tad bit more accurate next time.

Ingrown toe nails, yeah definately ingrown toe nails.

Just kidding, I appreciate the report before having to read about it in the Bee, thanks THR.

Well, my source was a coach on the staff who told me it wasn't his ankle. I didn't report it because he said they actually didn't want NAU to know until as late in the week as possible. However, since the Bee came out with it, I guess the cover is blown.

heard it was some kind of abdominal surgery. Guess he's had it since camp but he finally couldn't handle the pain anymore hence the surgery. Hope he gets better soon and him and Wilkins will be back for Montana.

I was on Sac Rat this morning and was reading. Bill Bradley had an article and it said that Smith did have surgery on his ankle. If thats true, I dont know anyone, (well maybe Terell Owens when he broke his ankle and was ready for the superbowl) that can come back from ankle surgery in only 3 weeks.

I emailed Bradley on this and at first he said Sac State must be giving the Bee misinformation and that he'd have John Schumacher call me. I then pointed out that John Schumacher's article in the middle of last week had reported the surgery was not related to Smith's ankle. Bradley wrote back and said, "My Bad. We will print a correction." There was no ankle surgery... I repeat there was no ankle surgery!

Whatever it was for Jason, hope he healed fast after watching the game on Saturday. I know he'll want a good piece of Montana after narrowly losing to them last year.

This will be one of those topics that never gets settled. I didn't say anything because I didn't want to keep it going, but I was with one of my sources and I sat right next to her as she contacted Jason asking if the surgery was on his ankle and he said it was. At this point, it REALLY doesn't matter as HornetMaster22 reported that he will be returning for the Montana game next week. Prayerfully, whatever he had surgery on doesn't affect his performance .

No it won't get settled because I have source on the staff that told me it wasn't his ankle. Besides, I've never heard of surgery for a high ankle sprain. I won't repeat what the surgery was because its nobody's business, but it was not his ankle. In fact, it was not bone related. I'll leave it at that.
