JERRICK HARDING

If you get a chance check out Jerrick Harding out of Wichita, Kansas. He was mentioned in the post (2016 Recruits). This kid is flying under the radar. Much like Damian, he is a score first pass second point guard. He is leaning toward coming to Weber but needs to feel the love from us! Jerrick is the Kansas 6A player of the year. He averages 28 points a game but has had many 40+ point games this season. Verbal commits rates him as a 2☆ point guard but 247 & ESPN rate him at 3☆'s. Jerrick hasn't had much talent around him in high school so the assists have been few and far between. Nebraska took a look at him but the head coach decided to go with a different kid. A certain former assistant coach, now at Nebraska, was sold on this kid so he may have made a suggestion to our current staff. :-D Jerrick is something special and if he continues to work hard and grow a couple inches will play at the next level. Those of you on Twitter go follow @JHarding_10 and tweet some love to this kid! :clap: :rockon:

Got to be careful not to commit an NCAA recruiting violation though tweeting to a recruit.

Looks open court a bit slow but very quick moves to and around the basket. Creative with the ball but rarely looking for his teammates. Great shooter but low release. Can't tell from highlight video if he plays any defense or not. He definitely can light it up from all parts of the floor. I question whether he can score effectively at the basket against bigger, quicker more talented players. Has to learn to dish off the drive. A bit like Senglin was in his first two years; forcing his shots after a drive to the basket. I think he would be a great "get" for Weber and could develop into a top-notch player. Not sure he will develop as well as Damian did. But then again how many can...

Don't read too much into a highlight video. He may have qualities that are not shown and those things never show a weakness. That's why they call them 'highlight' videos. This is what I took from it. He is left handed, but seems to be able to go to his right as needed. His style around the basket reminds me of the guy we used to call superman, and he is about that same size. He seems to have a good handle on the ball and penetrates with an efficient stop and go style. It is hard to tell from a video, but he seems small. He might be 6'1'', but I would have to measure him to believe it. I'm not sure that it matters, he plays bigger than he is. As far as the passing aspect of his game, I have seen other video that shows some very good passes. If we do bring him in, he would have time to develop and adjust to the D1 game. He seems like a good prospect to me. I like a lefty as a point guard. None of these young men come with a guarantee. :twocents:

I agree, highlight videos are not to be trusted :wall: I had a conversation with someone I really trust about this kid. I liked what he had to say about his work ethic. He also told me the kid can shoot from anywhere whether he is squared up, off balance or has an oversized defender in his face. Evidently this kid hasn't had any other talent to share the ball with. I was told he scored 38 points in the 2016 Kansas 6A high school tournament semifinal game and carried his team to the championship game. He set a record scoring over 100 points in the tournament. I am told he is much closers to 6' but regularly dunks the ball with 2 hands.
It all comes down to work ethic and the ability to play within Rahe's system. Hot-dogging will win you a front row seat for the season, at the end of the bench. :rockon:

What is your relation to Jerrick? You appear to be some what invested in his future. He looks like a good player, but I get extremely nervous when a fan base is asked to show a potential recruit some love on Twitter. That appears to walk a very thin line and could be a recruiting violation waiting to happen.

Well...it says a lot, if indeed, the coaching staff has extended an offer to Harding. He's good enough to play. I heard coach once say, this was a few years ago, like 09, that he wanted at least one PG for each class, every season. Maybe Harding is that kid. My question is, is he better than the players on our list for 2017? Or, more importantly, is he better than one of the two players who just left, or who are currently playing? Bring him in and see. If he can keep up with Cannon and John, he might not be a bad player to add. If we know we can't get one of the guys we are looking at in the 2017 class, he might be a good guy to add and red shirt.

:bad: I am a Wildcat!! I am invested in Weber State Basketball as a fan only. I bought my first season tickets in 1978.
My only affiliation to Weber State Basketball is as a hardcore fan! :rockon:
As far as implying that my request is a recruiting violation, you are way off base :willybs: Letting a player know that you would love to see him wearing purple and white is nothing close to what you are implying. Don't assume that a fellow fan is asking you to put money in a kids pocket if he asks you to show the kid some love. Moving from any distant location to play sports is extremely difficult. Leaving your family, girl and friends behind to attend college is a little easier knowing that the fan base wants you there. There is nothing more to my request. Not everyone on this forum is a booster, professor of this institution or a coach. :wall:

We have been bitten before on the forum, causing WSU to report a minor NCAA violation, so now we're all a bit more cautious concerning potential recruits. http://www.bigskyfans.com/wildcats/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2240&p=18439#p18439
Under NCAA rules, written, telephonic or in-person communication is NOT permitted between a recruit and a booster of an NCAA institution regardless of the medium
You may be a booster and not even aware of it...
You are a representative of athletics interests if:
• You are a member of a group that supports or promotes Weber State Athletics (e.g., Wildcat Club);
• You have made financial contributions to the department of athletics or an athletics booster organization;
• You have provided any benefits to Weber State student-athletes, prospective student-athletes, or their families;
• Weber State has asked you to help, or you have in any way helped, to recruit student-athletes; OR
• You have otherwise assisted in the promotion of Weber State Athletics.
It is important to remember that once you are identified as a representative of athletics interests, you remain one FOREVER!

I don't think that any of us should be sending tweets to Jerrick. Leave that to the coaches and players. I believe that he has already had some tweets from all of the appropriate people. If he wants to be a Wildcat, it will happen. Our community would open it's arms to him. He sure wouldn't have to worry about tornados. He wouldn't be in Kansas any more. :LOL:

Were safe! I sit in the cheap seats! I do not qualify as booster. Webergrad02 please get some counseling for that paranoia and anger :doh:

I hope this won't count as a recruiting violation...

Yes!!
There is a little love! Looks like a little love for Braxton and Dallas too!
Must be Grizzlies trying to get us flagged for a recruiting violation. :stir:

It's a hard concept to understand, but when you identify yourself as a Wildcat supporter, you are a booster. As such, you fall under the guidelines the NCAA has established for recruiting, whether you like it or not. You should not be making any contact with potential recruits, period. stop it and stop it now. :wall:

False. Being a fan alone doesn't make you a booster. Some serious overreactions here.

Gosh... OK Dad! :cry:

Really? Stop it and stop it now?.... :rofl: I wish that I had that kind of influence over Twitter followers :wtf:

FELLOW WILDCAT FANS: DISREGARD MY PREVIOUS REQUEST TO SHOW A RECRUIT SOME LOVE! DO NOT CONTACT POTENTIAL RECRUITS ON SOCIAL MEDIA UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!! DO NOT SAY HELLO, DO NOT TELL THEM YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE THEM IN A WILDCAT UNIFORM.
SO LET IT BE WRITTEN, SO LET IT BE DONE!

Is that good enough Dad?

Oh wow, such drama! Let's all take a step back from the ledge. Okay, so, what makes Harding such an appeal? I'll admit it...I really don't know much about him. Why should we recruit him? What are his stats, high school and AAU? I know he has two other DI offers but why is he only getting love now? Nothing wrong with that. There are a lot of seniors who blowup after the early signing deadline, who go on to have solid careers.

You identified yourself as a fan and season ticket holder. Either one of those things make you a booster. You identified your Tweet with #WeAreWeber. That is a self ID as a booster. You are a booster and from here on out you will be known as a booster. As a booster, you fall under NCAA guidelines and may not contact a recruit or potential recruit. You may be contacted by officials from WSU or the NCAA to explain what you have done. If you are a fan, why would you potentially harm the thing that you claim to love.
