Honestly, that’s great! BYU and U of U fans are spoiled. BYU fans were pissing and moaning for Lavell Edwards to retire for many years before he did in spite of all he did for them. Now a lot of U fans wanted Whittingham to retire early as well. The word on KSL is that Coach Whitt is taking Jay Hill with him to Michigan. Interesting!?!?
I would imagine that would be best for him at least in the sort term. Could certainly help his adjustment to coaching at the collegiate level. Especially with everything that entails the head job position in today’s college football. It is truly more about being a CEO than coachingDoes anyone know if Kjar plans to be the OC as well as head coach?
I certainly hope not. I feel that it would be a huge mistake and get him off on the wrong foot. He can be as involved as he wants, but he needs the 'big picture' view. He needs a layer between him and all of the O assistants.Does anyone know if Kjar plans to be the OC as well as head coach?
It was a mistake made by Mental & it would be a mistake by Kjar absolutely!I certainly hope not. I feel that it would be a huge mistake and get him off on the wrong foot. Standard-Examiner today stated Kjar will call plays as OC. I agree it would be better to have a separate OC, but Hill was the DC and honest to God could have done just as well if not better if he called offensive plays instead of Schramm, Hammer, or Mental. It was a mistake made by Mental & it would be a mistake by Kjar absolutely!
It’s a definite risk for sure! Hopefully, he learned a lot from Hill. Experience can be overrated…look at Schramm, plenty of experience but no common sense, lest we forget the Maine playoff game where after a first successful drive with passing, he insisted on running against an eight man box. The two called wildcat plays in a row was a perfect summary of him.Fowler as DC a big jump. Pretty limited coaching experience.
