Kupp rumor

Have any of you heard a rumor about Kupp following Adams and joining Oregon? The first time I heard it at school today I did not think much of it but now I am hearing it from a couple people. This would be devastating for us but those two would tear up the Pac12 in a huge way.

I hope it is not true

Nice first post, Troll! :coffee:

Plus he is going to be on with Chaves tomorrow for the AD dinner. Why would they want to have him doing that if that was the case......plus I think with Chaves as high up in the NCAA as he is with committee work I think that Loophole get's closed pretty quickly.
Good catch Dozy!

I am glad Kupp is not leaving we need him to win it all this year. Thanks for the information about transferring I did not know that

In theory, it would be perfectly possible for him to transfer and not miss a year. It would require him to stay at Eastern for the 2015 season, but he could exploit the same loophole Vernon Adams exploited and leave for a different school.

I think a lot of people thought of the Vernon situation as some sort of weird one-off, but it is a dangerous new precedent. I can't think of a single other instance where a school lost a player from their roster with a year of eligibility left with no transfer period. EVERY school without legitimate FBS title aspirations should monitor this situation very closely less everyone outside the top 25 become a 4-year JC.

I've been pretty vocal about saying this situation is a nightmare for Eastern and teams like Eastern... not because of one kid, but because the NCAA has sanctioned an exodus of team's best players so long as they have a 5th year available. Eastern (and other non-top tier FBS teams and FCS teams) can no longer redshirt for fear that they essentially give away their best players for their senior season.

This is a pure manufactured rumor, with apologies to the OP. I am sure your receivers are good, but unlike QB this year, the ducks are loaded at receiver for several years to come. I doubt that Kupp would get any playing time - we are likely to have receivers transferring out at some point for lack of playing time. It's possible that your fine receivers could play elsewhere, but it wouldn't be at Oregon.

Kupp is just as good as anything the ducks currently have, you obviously have not watched him play or you would not say things like this.

LOL. Sorry, I was trying to make you feel better about holding on to your receiver. If you actually want someone to come and take him, I can try calling the Oregon coaches. I'm just saying that in general, they are not in the market for more receivers at the moment. There is already a glut of highly-rated ones on the team.

I agree this is concerning. A team with a need can take a risk on a strong, experienced FCS player. This won't be utilized stock entire teams. It will be used as a stop gap, and the cream of the crop of the FCS will be looked at as good options for immediate experienced production. Some may not be superstars at the FBS level, but will likely be serviceable at minimum. If they don't get the loophole closed quick, I could see this becoming at least a fairly common occurrence.

It's already happened with at least one other FCS player this year.

You can keep the ratings, and I will take the on the field performance of Kupp his numbers speak for him.

Its not a loophole, the idea is that if a player still has eligible time and is done with his original commitment and finished college. He then is open to continue his education and continue his life. VA is using this opportunity to go to school at a better university and open more career options for him. Just so happens that his main career path right now is football. He's doing exactly what the ncaa wanted with this rule. Continue his career path at a better location for what he wants to do.

Judging from some of his recent tweets I don't think there is any weight to this rumor.

So I dont understand how this is a 'loophole.' We got Bo Levi, and Kyle Padron from SMU. How is this any different? Other than the fact that they moved down, while VA moved up.

Just very curious.

there's zero reason to believe that going to Oregon really improves his draft stock by that much, especially when you consider that oregon's offense is unique to college football and their recent qb's don't fit the mold of most NFL QB's. Historically, USC, Stanford, etc. produce prototypical NFL qb's who go on and have successful careers in the pro's. If his dream was to play in the pac 12, then fine. If he is genuinely trying to increase his draft stock and thinks going to oregon is going to do that, then I think he's in for a surprise, especially if he isn't named the starter or has a bad year. He will go from being projected as a mid rounder to a PFA or worse. Many NFL scouts have been saying that this is a bad move for him in the long run. I hope they are wrong, because i genuinely want to see him succeed.

they both had two years of eligibility remaining when they transferred. this is a different rule regarding transfers.

If you believe that this rule was intended to create free agency in college football, then you are a dummy.

He could transfer somewhere for his Senior season like Adams did I suppose, but it won't happen in 2015. I also thinking playing with his brother his Senior year would trump anything else.
