Well, Montana State is beating Montana by 10 so maybe by halftime of the UNC game, we might clinch second.

What a big night this could be for UNC basketball. From www.uncbears.com:

WITH A WIN SATURDAY NIGHT ...

* The Bears would improve to 24-6 this season and tie Northern Colorado's 1988-89 team for the most wins in school history.

* Northern Colorado would clinch the No. 2 seed in this year’s Big Sky Conference tournament and receive a bye into the tourney semifinals on March 9.

* The Bears would match their total wins accumulated between Dec. 17, 2002, and Nov. 11, 2006, when Tad Boyle coached his first game at Northern Colorado.

* Northern Colorado would win 12 conference games for just the sixth time in school history (1933, 1959, 1960, 1988, 1989).

* Northern Colorado would win its 12th road or neutral game this season, tying it for the third most such wins in the country this season (out of 347 programs).

* The Bears would become the first team since 1965 (when NC records began tracking home, away or neutral) to win 12 games outside of Greeley.

* The Bears would win their fourth straight game against Sacramento State (and improve to 6-2 overall against Sac. St.) and sweep the Hornets in the regular season for the second straight year.

* Northern Colorado would sweep a fourth Big Sky opponent this season (Northern Arizona, Idaho State, Eastern Washington).

* The Bears would win six games in each month this season (November, December, January, February) and win six February games for the first time since 1989 (eight wins).

I just saw the Hornet's Nest on Big Sky TV for the first time. Are you kidding me? My kids' high school gym was bigger and better than this. Is this really their basketball arena or are they repairing or building their real arena.

I was thinking the same thing; that thing is pathetic! I thought Butler was small after seeing Weber's arena, but it's much better than that thing. I gotta wonder what Sac State's plans are; the city and state are broke so I can't see how they are going to be upgrading anytime soon. None of their sports are competitive in the BSC; I'm thinking it's just a matter of time before they are out of the big sky

Certainly a tiny arena but let us not cast the first stone. I am sure Montana fans say the same thing about us when they see Nottingham.

Congrats to the Bears!!!!

Yeah to be honest our facilities are a joke, but on a lighter note some people actually pissed and moaned that Rasmussen shouldn't of been let go, funny those people are MIA and rasmussen is selling vinyl siding in Keensburg but no offense against him he was just the "Downing" of our basketball program.

I disagree that all of our facilities are a joke in relation to other Big Sky schools: the practice fields are as good as any, Butler is small but classy and with the current renovation going on, it will be as nice as the best Big Sky schools. The Nottingham setup is a joke the way the players have to walk across the parking lot, but if they remedied that with some locker rooms at the field, it wouldn't be that bad. The Jackson field soccer stadium is nicer than most but the baseball "stadium" is a joke. There's work to do, but in relation to how it was when I went to school there, it's a night and day difference.

Maybe Rasmussen can get Downing a job after next season! :D

Its not the size that counts...........its how you use it

Seriously, I heard Sac St was planning to build them a new arena with a capacity of 8,000. But like mentioned before, California is broke which makes this idea look pretty undoable, but lets be realistic, 8,000? Sacramento doesnt win often enough to fill an 8,000 seat arena, build a 4-6000 seat arena.

Yes the Hornets Nest and even the Stott Center for Portland State are embarassing, Butler Hancock is not a bad arena, what does it hold like 4,600? most Big Sky schools only average that many fans a game, so BH is perfect basically.

Butler Hancock MUST look bigger on TV it holds maybe 3,000 but they have have standing room only. I posted some info on Webers page.

Butler looks really small on TV.

Butler and Nottingham are not DI facilities unfortunatly. Butler is a 1970's DII building that has been improved quite a bit but it is what it is, hell my high school had a thousand permanent seats and all we have are fold outs but it is what it is for now. Unfortunatly Nottingham was built too small. It might have been wise to continue raising funds for a few more years and get it up around 12K with on site lockerrooms.

Beyond that the practice facilities and the new weight training, offices, etc will really help. Fortunatly as fans all we see are the stadium and the arena but to prospective athlets things like the lockerrooms, weight rooms, training facilities also matter and I think we are doing well there.
