That's the same thing I was thinking, and Borges has already mentioned wanting to know that the support is going to be there. From the o-live article:

"Of all the places I've coached, and all the bowl games I've coached in, I had more fun at Portland State than anywhere else," Borges said. "I'd be interested if I thought the program could get the support it needs. I've tried to get the job before."

I mentioned him a little tongue in cheek. I don't believe that he would be hired at PSU even if he was interested once the vetting started.

80-17 at Montana should be good enough to get a look at least in the early stages. The main issue is we may not be able to afford him. He also may want to go back to Montana, he is a Montana native.
 
I just believe that with the recent problems at UM that may have started under his watch, that Hauck would not pass the muster at PSU. The program does not have the ability to weather any controversy.

An interesting thought.

His stint at Army wasn't all that successful, but then that is a tough program to win at.

The Portland ties (Jesuit) would be a positive.

Very impressive resume. If nothing else, Borges has seen a good part of the Country and has coached in a number of conferences. If he was to become the new PSU Head Coach, it would be very important who he hired as Defensive Coordinator. Greg Lupfer would be a great candidate for that position.

Al Borges was my choice last go around. We went with Nigel Burton instead. He hadn't developed much of a resume at all.

I think the key is hiring someone with an offensive mindset.
 
Eric Kiesau is an applicant and I think a reaaly good candidate with a strong resume.

Does anyone know the story why Sarkisian didn't take him to USC from Washington?
 
Oregon has the most innovative offense around. What about Steve Greatwood?

And I know I am contradicting myself since he doesn't come from the offensive side of the ball, but what about Nick Alliotti? They'd both bring the Oregon Spread offense with them.
 
I have to point out that Lupfer during the 2013 season grabbed an opposing QB and called him " a f....king faggot". He was suspended for two weeks without pay and a month of anger training. Anger seems to be a common issue with coaches.

A couple of days ago I was wondering where Lupfer was coaching. I googled his name and this incident was the first thing that popped up. I would be stunned if PSU, a university that takes great pride in their diversity, would hire him with the attention that this seemed to get.
 
Let us remember ...

We are looking for the very best football coach that we can muster. The table is set and now we must see to it that those efforts are not in the least wasted. We need someone who is unifying, highly attractive, a media darling and, above all, effective. This is the transitional era for the FB program fraught with higher manageable risks.

We learned much from the JG Era. We had to take that risk. Let us apply our collective vision to see which leadership candidate will provide the greatest bang-for-the-buck. Let us build wealth and not dissipate it. In fact, let us punctuate growth and experience an era of it being exponentiated.
 
It's been fun to read all the speculation. I do know Coach Speckman by the way and he is a man of character and a good coach. For the money we have available he would be an attractive option as would a few others...Brock? We have limited funds...its a reality we can't escape...

But...... looks like we are stuck with Barnum for at least a year. Players seem to like him but as we all know as the OC his play calling was suspect for at least the first half of the season. He was also responsible for QB's and we do little if anything to develop them. I can't figure out what leadership is planning for with this move...

Are you saying you believe that Barnum will be on the staff for a year or that he will continue in his role as interim head coach for the next year?
