Lets start Tradition this year...

First off, welcome to the boards KPVI and thanks, glad you appreciated my speech ;) I won't let some pissing contest between faculty and administration drag my school through the mud, and I had a deep desire to kick a LOT of people in the groin for using Hitler/Nazi references as well as Founding Father references and I really wanted to take a chair or something to the person who compared the faculty's struggle to the revolution in Egypt. But enough digression.

Look, I know where you're getting at. But looking at the other end of I-84 West is an example of what I DON'T want: I do not want a football team with a school, where almost every aspect revolves around it. What good is it to say that football helps with the school's image when people barely acknowledge the other teams' sports? I've acknowledged that football is Numero Uno in an era where college athletics is like the Cold War with all the facility arms races and tens of millions, hundreds of millions dropped into facilities, television contracts and such. But I don't like it. And I don't think it's a smart financial move. I say we keep building up our football team's infrastructure...but not neglect the other sports now that we have ourselves a shiny new coach, field and attitude. The Aquarius has to be respected for giving ISU some life while the Odyessy was undergoing some serious issues and repairs. I think Tingey has had the right thing going: while biding his time and working to get support for football, he figured he'd help do some housework with the others; a new locker room for volleyball, upgrades for the basketball teams, fielding considerations from Coach Gibson concerning lights to play night games, and a softball field that will be finished this fall so we have a true home field for the softball team. Track's field needs upgrading but I am confident that that will come to pass soon; track and field is one of our most successful sports and doesn't require much to maintain :thumb: But don't stop there! Everyone must be looked after and supported. Keep the momentum going! Market all your teams!

But enough of this. I'll simply continue on as I have and support everyone else and have fun watching and supporting the other squads.

SSSSSSOOOOOOOOOO....meanwhile..back to the subject of this thread.....do we need a motion and a second of who needs to take these ideas to the Athletic Department and/or Kramer to get the ball rolling on any they might like.........if so...i move that either "votb" or "skippy" gather the ideas and present them to "Oz" for their perusal.......

...and if we are still gathering ideas...i liked the one i read someone ...that NAU has the freshmen run onto the field with the team at the first home game.......that might be another one to throw into the hopper.....

Superfan I despise Boise St, but they are a great story. Also to say that they have not had any success in other athletic programs besides football is ridiculous. I do have a problem when the football team goes and plays the big boys(Oklahoma, Georgia, etc.) and then other teams take trips to Cancun, BC, etc... There are other tournaments much closer that would provide the same experience at a much lower cost. Why should the football team just SPREAD THE WEALTH?

Letuknow-

BSU is a great story--a story ruined by their bandwagon, hive-mind fans screaming about the BCS and picking fights with Oregon players, an athletic director who apparently, according to the AD's of Alabama and Ohio State, hasn't bothered picking up the phone and calling them (and when BSU does get ahold of someone, like Nebraska, they demand a cool one million dollars :ohno:--that's called cupcake money, and they shouldn't be asking for crap. Why BSU doesn't step up like Florida State did in the 1970's and 1980's is beyond me; FSU was almost always on the road and rarely getting guarantee games back to Doak Stadium), and a President who got all pissy when an Idaho student newspaper poked fun at BSU's (woeful) academic record, and then embarrassed himself and turned a lot of people against BSU with his "drunk and inebriated" comments (Idaho has nothing on Wisconsin fans)

"Also to say that they have not had any success in other athletic programs besides football is ridiculous"

Sure, that's true...but you missed my point: my point is that because BSU is so obsessed with their program, those successful teams are almost unheard of. It is that kind of splintering I wish to avoid. Football has to spread the wealth; the situation demands it. Why the hell do you think I'm so bent on bringing everyone up, together, in creating an athletic program that is powerful in all sports? It makes life easier for everyone (especially football) when it has multiple, successful sports that win and are marketed well. Takes the pressure off a little.

We have to keep playing those money games...the poor choices pursued by a few (looking your way, Paul Bubb) did a lot of damage. Also, overall, football is the biggest money loser if not done right. It's a very expensive, prolonged gamble. Win a lot and paying the bills is easy. Lose a lot and that money disappears.

You make some valid points Superfan, but a trip to Cancun for a tournament is not money spent wisely. Either was the trip to BC. You make some valid points, but "Spreading The Wealth" is a "LIBERAL" view that makes me sick :tothehand: I will never doubt your undying support of the BENGALS. I wish the rest of the students had 1/10th of your passion. Im glad to have you as a BENGAL, but the majority of the money games should go to those that earn it.

I don't see it as spreading the wealth from a horrible (liberal) point of view, letuknow. I see it as "let's make sure everyone is tended to so that way there's less pressure on the football team, and there is less pressure for varsity athletics to hold club-sport style fundraisers". For the record, by the way, I am a monarchist, so there's no reason for me to advocate liberalism as a stand-alone political ideology (especially since it's killed so many people in an effort to make a better, modern human), and that goes for conservatism. I do not and will not approach problems with ISU, and America for that matter, with a disgusting party point of view, or a fake "independent but still aligned in spirit" point of view.

But I digress.

Besides, not all the department money comes from football money games or the money that football makes...the women's team is spending the Cancun tournament from their own budget allotted to them by the Department, and they host their own fundraisers like the Crab Feed every year. As I stated earlier, the other teams host fundraisers to make up for any shortfalls that might appear after the budgets are released for the fiscal year.

Hence the need to stress the development with everyone. It's not "spreading the wealth", it's common sense. It requires more patience, more focus, and more time and effort. But it's a helluva lot better than taking some quick medicine, throwing money at that egg-filled basket, and hoping for the best.

This thread is becoming embarrassing. The only tradition we need to start is a winning tradition.

I Disagree.. This topic has become sweeter each post.. Keep them coming!

PS- Ross, you really do need to get laid. He was right.

I fail to understand how my advocating a strong, unified and powerful athletic department, that markets all its sports well, where everyone is supported and backed, somehow entails a conversation about my sex life, but okay whatever.

And how is this becoming embarrassing? Isn't that what this blog is for? For all of us to go nuts with ideas and fight over them yet remain under a common banner? Moreover, this is a sportsboard. Connect the dots.

It is a little silly to be going insane over an internet site full of armchair coaches and armchair directors. I am one of those, I am ashamed to admit. But at least I can say I'm an armchair guy who will support everyone rather than just the guys in the helmets and pads, and I try to be a little more realistic: as I've said, putting your eggs into one basket now that we have a new hen who we expect to lay golden eggs, throwing money at it and ignoring the others...it makes little sense in every way.

This seems to work for the Steelers and let’s face it; there are a lot of Steeler fans in Pocatello. There are a lot of Styx fans too.

I say we play “Renegade” in between the third and fourth quarters with ISU highlights. I would be willing to help put the video together. I still have a bunch of video from the Jared Allen days.

Sing the national anthem with the Marching Band :) anthems always sound fantastic with the crowd...actually, we could totally do this with every sport too.

I vote for VOTB doing the Dougie on the 50 yard line before each game...

How in the heack are all you potato eating rock kickin forever Bengal people doing?

Just stopped by to say Hi... and wish you the best on a great season.

Coach

By the way Superfan, don't let anyone rain on your Liberal tendencies... Coming from a big time Liberal in a big time Liberal City and a Big Time Liberal state, it's good to be Liberal... Any expenditure that achieves a desired goal is probably worth the money, and despite some that frown upon anything fun, you have to have some enjoyment out of life. I don't even know the details nor do I need to at this time, I just wanted to back up your Liberal tendencies...

Ahhhh... It feels good to stir it up a bit...

Roar, where is the rest of your crew? Tell them I said hello!

Coach

does it matter if I don't even know what the "Dougie" is? On the other hand...I used to do "The Milkshake" dance for the women's hoops team after road wins...

You stirred the pot, Bluehawgs

Check your inbox. I'm not biting on in public, because my thoughts concerning issues from abortion to the free market economy and free speech would and has infuriated liberals and conservatives.

what about having the team meet at reed gym and walking together to "the Dome"...maybe accompanied by the band....bengal dancers, etc....students.....fans...people driving by ...honking and yelling support....the size of the crowd growing as they get closer........of course the team is in street clothes...'headed to war"....i'm thinking it might start out small...maybe bigger than i think....but grows as people join....fans could park at the dome and tailgate...then walk over to join the walk and back with the team....i think i read where "The" Ohio State University team does it...... :) ..but i was thinking when we went to Georgia...that i heard they do something similiar......obviously it would be a couple or three hours before the game......

About 4 years ago MSU started what we call the "Bobcat Prowl"

The team dresses out in the field house and about an 75 minutes before the game they walk over to the staduim, about 300 yards, the procession starts with champ the mascot, then the cheer and dance squads, Band and finally the team and coaches walking 4 abreast, the front row is usually the captains and the DL has taken to being the last row. Most of the way is lined whith cheering fans and it gets several deep and pretty loud as you get close to the stadium. Now its a regular tradition and something not to miss before each home game.

Another Tradition MSU started after the stadium upgrade in the 90's was to paint a cinder block in the team lockerroom for each home game won in the colors of the defeated team.

votb, i promise you if you approach the team and tell them one of Josh Barnett's people told you you should ask them to teach you how to Dougie, you will instantly become the teams favorite person... and if you Dougie, they will all Dougie with you... Now that sounds like a party I'd like to see... it's a dance to a slow beat that has some arm movement and a slicking down of the hair that really doesnt matter how well you do it... if it even closely resembles the dance the whole student body will love you...

I found a link of Tigger being shown how to Dougie at Disneyland, or at least they thought they were teaching him...

Super, if votb Dougies, you have to make sure thay video shows up... he might have to use escorts to keep the ladies off of him...

Warning: there are lots of videos but the song itself is very coarse... get votb an instrumental version...

All in fun...

Coach

Coach,
How the heck have you been? I am glad you are still kicking and alive. I see the all time leading rusher for ISU every now and then and talk to the other JB now and then.

I sure miss the ribs/brats and cake on game day. Good times my friend!

Cage and Bird took a break for a while. I think we need a lot of wins for them to come back. I myself was on life support with ISU sports for the last 4 years. I am back 100% being caustiously optomistic. I feel like we are moving forward and are in really good hands with Coach Kramer.

Take Care my friend!

I have a cannon that I acquired for ISU games. I have had offers from people wanting to buy it but I would like to use it for the games in the dome. I will get home from Afghanistan a couple of days after the Montana game so I can only have it for the Eastern Washington game. I have also rounded up so particular parts and pieces that would make an outstanding Railroad Rumble trophy. I will be at the game with fellow Soldiers and we would like to have it assembled and ready for this season. If the team and administrations is interested I will make it happen. If anyone can give me some feedback so I can get things in motion it would be appreciated.

Roar:

I'm doing ok, just dropping by to see what's going on in the Valley of the Rocks...

I miss the trips to the Valley, on the road, and all of the fantastic tail gates we had. I miss Caged, Bird, Ford, and all of the usual suspects... I miss BigFan's imported ghetto sausages that everybody loved...

There is a lot to miss.

I just wanted to say hello to everyone wnad wish the Bengal faithful a great season.

I have a nephew playing HS football as a sophomore this year, and we are expecting good things out of him. His name is Aubrey Lang, wearing #12 for the Oaks Christian Lions. The Claussens and the Montana kids played QB at OC. His first game will be 9/3/11 at 8:30pm pacific time, and the game features Oaks Christian vs Bellvue, Washington at Mission Viejo HS. I will be at the game, however i will also be recording the game on ESPN. so, depending on the ISU schedule, either watch or tape the game!

Best of wishes to all in Pocatello, and a grand season...

Coach
