Lobato Named Starter

Per the Greeley Trib. I'm puzzled by this decision. He's a horrible thrower. Not accurate at all. Does Boyer and Collins know what the fuck they are doing? ugggghhhh.... I've seen this kid not be able to make some very basic passes. He's the last of the 3 I was hoping would get the nod.

For what it is worth I was hopping for Orms, but I was not at any of the practices so I was in favor of Orms because I liked his attitude and he did a decent job last year. Lobato must have really improved this year to take over the starting job. I hope they give Dylan a shot in the games to show what he can do in game situations. I think he could handle the pressure better than the other guys.

Yeah this is a shocker, seemed like they dragged this out as long as possible to not give it to Orms... so the first major decision from the new regime is a head scratcher so we'll see how it works out, I hope they prove me wrong...

The bottom line is that the coaches are making decisions that they believe are in the team's best interest and will result in wins. Admittedly, I have not seen any of the qbs work, but if Lobato's the guy right now, then so be it. My guess is that it will remain a fluid situation throughout the season, and perhaps even during games.

I guess I am a bit surprised but thats why I am not the coach. Its easy to arm chair quarterback but the coaching staff sees the QB's everyday so I say full steam ahead. Lets play some football !! Also check out "The Bears Den" on Altitude !! Hope that becomes a regular feature !!

I didn't see this coming, but I guess I'm not totally against it, physically Lobato has all the tools. I just don't know if he's there mentally yet. That's why I figured they would go with Orms, because the offense suits him better and he has game experience.

Even though he was named the starter today doesn't mean he'll be the start the whole year. I agree with mountainbear, that this situation will probably change throughout the year. I'm guessing all these QBs are going to be on a short leash.

I haven't been to any of the practices either, but I know when Lobato came in last year, late in games, he struggled. So I can understand the frustration.

Yeah the more I thought about it we have to trust the coaches and if this guy has the most upside and/or showed the most on film then let's go with it!

I do believe in these coaches, and have a great deal of respect for them. Not sure this was their best decision, BUT all it takes to make a different decision is a few bad series/games. Let's hope it's not the latter that forces someone to change their mind....

This link leads to an unpublished story that has been taken down, can anyone confirm this decision was made? I hit my son up but they must be in meetings or something. I did notice Lobato in the pics posted from today's practice out with the first team!

Not there to pass judgement one way or the other but I like the fact that the overall input is one of support with a wait and see attitude! Great Fans!

I think they just posted a more complete story and took that one down. This link works...

I just got confirmation from my son, Lobato #1 and Baca #2 on the depth chart...

I saw pics from today's practice on the thread titled Football Practice go to tab #4

The Mirror's article about Lobato being named the starter:

Personal note: I'm shocked and somewhat confused that Dylan wasn't named the starter or even the backup. Nothing against Seth or Matt, I'm just thinking it was an odd way to go. I never really noticed Seth's "quick" delivery, but I guess I'll have to pay closer attention now. Regardless of the decision, no matter if you agree with it or not, we have to support coach Collins and his staff. They know more than we do about the situation. That being said, we must also support Seth. No matter who won it, we had to support him no matter what. I'm sure there's a leash-only-goes-so-far scenario for whoever plays quarterback, but until that day/game comes, best of luck to Seth, and Go Bears!

After a couple of days of digesting this news. I'm still not happy and I think the coaches made the wrong choice. Lobato is the most athletic of the bunch but he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. I would rather have accuracy and senior leadership with Orms, but I guess that's not in the cards with this coaching staff. Lobato reminds me of another big QB we had that had a "cannon of an arm" but couldn't hit receivers. Anyone remember Dominic Breazealle? He was one of the worst QB's ever for UNC. They're the same skill set.

Beardown,

You got to take a chill pill. Where is the loyality toward the coaching staff and the newly named quarterback. Dylan will get his shot this year IMHO. Back the program and the coaches. Lobato must have shown something during winter workouts and spring practice and now fall camp to be named starter. Time will tell if this is/was the best decision.

"vetteman72" coming out of hibernation to thoroughly thrash Beardown. Let's face it fellas, if this offense is more of a run offense then Lobato is probably the better choice. If it's more of a passing offense then Lobato is going to have to improve his accuracy pretty quickly.
I'm going to give the QB coach Boyer (it was primarily his decision) the benefit of the doubt for now. He's watched these kids for several months and must know what he's looking for. We'll soon see.

LOL. The players have no confidence in Lobato, just check out their tweets. I grew up Blue and Gold and this is the first year I'm considering not going to the first game. A guy busts his ass for 5 years and this is how they treat him? Yeah, no thanks.

Bd, I don't do twitter; what do the players' tweets say?

Coaches at this level are far too selfish to play games. Their focus is to win, and while we don't like to admit it,if they don't win.......well we see what happened to the last staff. Loyalty is directed to The Program, and to best serve The Program......the most effective players start and play. If one guy is ineffective, somebody else will be expected to step up/in. Time will tell.....but we forget that time takes time.
