Very true. However, I do know there is a great deal of hatred for Don Eck in the locker room. There are a lot of guys on that team that would refuse to play for him.

Did you play when Eck was there? I never had a problem with him and I can't recall any other player that didn't like him.

Anyone know why Eck left after only one season at Weber [Fall 2008]?

He got an offer to coach down in Vegas for an arena team that was going to pay him significantly more than what Weber assistant coaches receive.

He got a job offer to be the OC for the Las Vegas Locomotive from the UFL.

Eck was offered a coaching position in the UFL I believe, better money and a good career move. I can personally tell you that there was NO animosity for Coach Eck when he did coach. He is a great recruiter, a straight shooter, and knows his stuff. From the players on the team that were there when he was there, they are all-in if Coach Eck comes back. He was an integral part of the success of the program that year, and the O line was very, very solid.

Good luck to Mac, you gave everything you had to the game you love and I HOPE that WSU does the right thing and honor you the way you should be honored.

Coach Mac = THE PLAYERS' COACH

My condolences Wildcat fans -- you are losing a good coach. Coach Mac brought Weber back to prominence during his tenure, and he his leaving the program in much better shape than what he found it. Now go get someone that will help you take that next step. As Bobcat fans can tell, sometimes change is a real good thing. Good luck WSU!

I agree...not that I know Coach Eck very well, I do know from a number of players that they like and appreciate coach Eck quite a bit. I was talking to a bunch of players last night about coach Eck, and they would be fine with him getting the nod.

As for Mac...I think the entire Weber State community should be extremely saddened by this. Mac is the number one reason why Weber State football is respected in the Sky, state, and nation. Every team the Cats face know that the Cats are dangerous and can beat them. Weber has been known for their physical play, hard work, and determined effort while Coach Mac has been here. Not only can the school appreciate the success, Mac has brought to Ogden, on the field, but also, the success in the classroom; and in life for the many players who have played for Mac. I know a bunch of former players who can owe their success in life directly to Mac giving them a chance to succeed and prove their ability. That to me is the most important attribute Mac has brought to our program. His ability to take unknown, under-appreciated players and turn them into great athletes, superb individuals, and lifelong successes. Mac is our Coach!! Personally, I am extremely grateful that Weber State was blessed with Mac as our football coach. Any future success is founded upon what Mac accomplished, achieved, and did while he was here at Weber State. Thank you for everything Coach!!

GO Big PURPLE!! Finish out the season strong boys. Win these last two for the Old Coach. He has earned YOUR absolute Best! GIVE IT!!

I agree, boys just have to go out big and win BIG for Coach Mac. Thousands of lives have been changed because of this man, make no mistake about it, Mac believes in the under dog, he believes that everyone deserves a chance, and he ALWAYS accepted his players, but EXPECTED great things from each and everyone of them. Coach Mac, a living legend!

For those of you who weren't able to see the press conference but want to here it is.

Seeing Mac get emotional like that is pretty hard to watch. Any time you see someone who generally has a pretty hard shell break down like that is so weird. Sad day indeed... Happy for him though.

Thanks for posting the youtube video.

Was it just me or did the body language speak loudly here. When Jerry Bovee introduced Mac and made the little joke about candy, Mac was closed off and appeared to be ticked off. When Mac was talking, Jerry seemed peeved and annoyed by Mac and his stories. Am I reading to much into this? Is there tension between these two? It appears that these two do not have a good bromance going on.

One more thing: Jerry needs to take out his gum when speaking in public

I read it the same way.... hmmm... As for Mcbrides response about the candy/kindle that's just Mac, but Bovees body language was more telling

Take out your gum when the entire SLC media is in your face

Thank you coach for all that you have done!! Weber State Football will forever be changed because of Mac.

Mac probably didn't want to do the press conference. That was, in my opinion, the biggest reason why he was bugged. He isn't someone who wants the spotlight on him. Jerry was doing the press conference probably for a couple of reasons, but most likely as a way to get more fans out to the game on Saturday, as a way to honor Mac, and lets face it, get butts in the seats. But it did look like the two of them weren't comfortable sitting by each other. I don't know anything, but is there a chance that Mac was asked to retire or encouraged? No matter, i just want to see Mac leave with a two game winning streak. Also, good to hear that Mac will still be involved with the program. I'm really interested in who will be taking over the program.

Nice Story in the Des News.

To be honest, I was shocked that Brad Rock knew where Weber State was.

Another piece, but this one is by our favorite reporter Randy Hollis. This is someone who actually knows Weber.

By the way, I love the picture of the two "GREATS" Coach McBride and Coach Heslop.

I think some of you guys are really reaching for something that isn't there. In the press conference, Coach said "it's my decision, nobody else's decision" to retire. He also talked about how well he has been treated by Jerry Bovee and the University. I'll take Coach at his word and leave it at that. Furthermore, I'll be there Saturday to honor him, celebrate his career, and thank him for what he has given to the football program, the school, and the community.

I just know that my son would not be getting his college degree if it wasn't for Mac, period. I have nothing but love and respect for this man, he will always be The Players' Coach, no matter what anyone says. Over the years I have been blessed to spend some time with him in the off season and away from Utah, he is a class act all the way. Let's give Coach the send off he deserves; he built this program from the ground up and I am honored and privileged to call him my friend.

GOD BLESS AND GOD SPEED COACH MAC
