Maine @ Weber St

Was able to watch a replay of Maine v JSU this morning. Maine is pretty dang similar to Weber St. Maine’s D is tough against the run and they were able to force and take advantage of turnovers - including a few turnovers on downs. JSU’s starting QB actually got benched after two fumbles.

Maine’s O (at least for this game) was as follows: Run, run, throw fade. Run, throw fade, run. Throw fade, run, throw fade. Lots of fades and QB Ferguson is excellent at throwing them. He completed a bunch – and what wasn’t completed - was flagged for P.I. Maine even converted a fake punt - a la Jay Hill style.

Like many have already said, for Weber St to win …. Stop. The. Run. Period…. Then defend against the fade without fouling. I do think Weber St’s defensive backfield is a lot better than what JSU had to offer.

JSU did have some success with big passing plays early in the game. But they couldn’t run the ball. On offense – we need to run the ball, convert some big gains and most importantly…… take care of the ball. Maine can after the QB. I as well, think Weber’s team speed could be the difference on both sides. Should be a good game. Go Weber!

(BTW… excellent piece at halftime by ESPN on the Maine player who passed away – if you watch, get your tissues ready)

About time for this rumble in the Rockies to begin. Let's go, Weber, and get this W! Please don't make me turn my attention to bball, they don't usually get things figured out 'till January, anyway. I endured two-and-a-half life sentances waiting to see a strong, exciting Weber State football program capable of making a run at the FCS championship and am not ready for this season to end or face the possibility of losing Coach Hill. Get 'er done, Weber, and let's do this one more time next week!

Whichever team loses this game is going to regret playing so ridiculously conservative in the first half.

I see Maine opening it up on the offensive side in the second half but both defenses are very good.
No question about that...

Both teams seem to be playing very tight and what about the Maine players looking back to the Coaching Staff too much, they need to settle down on Coaching signs. They seem to be a bit more confused than against JSU on the offensive side....

But Maine is looking much better from the 2nd Quarter.

Congrats to UMaine in winning a great defensive game. Wish Weber would have won, but I am happy for all my UMaine alum friends!

Good luck next week on the west coast. I'll be rooting for you!

Also, big thanks the Weber State's coaches and team for another awesome year! This team greatly exceeded my expectations and I am so proud to be a a Wildcat!

Thanks Wildcats for a great year! Would like to see a new offensive scheme and coordinator. It’s pretty lame.

I think EWU or UC Davis has no problem passing on Maine. Maine’s players are too worried about the fans in the stands and make stupid penalties to advance to Finals. Predict either Big Sky team moves on to the Championship game. NDSU looks a big level above everyone, so probably another title for them. I guess we will see.

At least pawildcat can congratulate us. This sounds like sour grapes to me. I have seen U.C. Davis play twice this year, but not EWU. I hate to say this but those refs tonite were some of screwest calls I have seen in a while. Despite the fact we won I hope the NCAA reviews this game.
I can honestly say play some tough defense but I stil feel that BSC is overrated. U.C. Davis is going to be tough and I hope they win because I live in Sacramento, but I think the toughest team in the BSC is EWU
and I don't know a lot about them.

Go Bears....

Don't be a sore loser... Weber pretty much got smacked. Maine dominated that game physically.

That said, I thought Weber had a pretty good team. They're tough defensively. As I stated previously, you can't run on Maine. In order to score on Maine you need to have very good QB play. The Weber QB, though, was too rattled and scared to make the big throws when needed.

That was a very poorly officiated game in Weber's favor but Maine outplayed Weber and secured the win without the help of the officials.

Between here and the AGS forum, Maine fans are giving themselves a poor reputation.

I never felt this years team stacked up to last year’s, but was optimistic we could make a run with home field advantage. The blown coverage on the long TD put us behind 11 points and we just didn’t have the pass protection to play from behind. Congrats to Maine on a hard fought win.

What a disappointing way to end a great season, credit to Maine's defense they're legit and have a good shot at beating whomever they play in the semis. As far as our offensive scheme, i don't think I've ever seen a more unimaginative offensive game than i did today. That needs to be majorly worked on in the offseason. It was pretty awful all year but today it seemed extra bad. Congrats on the win Maine.
