McNeese State Thread

According to this we can expect 90 degrees as a high and 73 as a low for our game day, could be lower at night. We don't play in July or August MSU fans /users/31/07/37/smiles/595146.gif

/users/31/07/37/smiles/700923.gif Oh yeah, I forgot we play on Sept 1st

Today's forecast:

The heat and humidity continues with highs in the mid to upper 90s with heat indices above 100 and possibly as high as 110 today. Thanks to high pressure over us our rain chances will remain extremely low in fact less than 10% the lack of rain and the sinking air form the high pressure are the reasons for the heat we will have the next few days.

Thursday & Friday looks to be the hottest days with some of us approaching 100 for the actual temperature. Nonetheless the heat indices will remain above 100 and upwards of 110 through the rest of the week. Remember if you are working outside or just outside for any reason try to avoid the hottest part of the day and drink plenty of water. It will not take long to become dehydrated in that kind of heat.

This weekend the high pressure will begin to break down and we will likely see a few showers but still below normal for this time of year and thus temperatures will still be in the mid 90s. Have a great Wednesday and stay cool and safe out thereLast edited by on 2007-08-08, 10:22; edited 1 time in total

I was in the Army and trained at Fort Polk in June. The heat with all my equipment on was not that great of a factor. I've also lived my entire life in the North West. So you can put out all the statistical data from the Army you like. In the end the players on the field will decide the out come of the game not the weather. PSU's biggest obsticle will be your defense against out new system of offense. I wish I could go watch the game, because I think it will be a good one.

How long were you here training? Did you fly in on Friday and leave Saturday night?

You are correct, it will be the players that decide this game (and I wish you could join us as well). Those of us who live here and leave for a few days, week, etc on vacation to the Northwest or some other less humid environment are all too familiar with the sledgehammer that hits you when you return and walk off the plane. You can discount it all you want and I will be the first to say it was all moot if the Vikiings come out firing on all cylinders and continue to do so through the game without suffering any effects from the heat and humidity. I do know right now there are 90 Cowboys football players in two a days acclimating themselves in tougher conditions than will be present at 7:00 on September 1st.

Ok, enough bravado about the weather, lol. I have noticed on this board several posts about players not returning due to academics, etc (running back, linemen, etc). Do you have any feel how the loss of those players will affect the team? I understand this may be an impossible question at this point in time due to the new offensive and defensive schemes.

Losing Mo Ali sucks, why? Because he is a great athlete, but with this new offense he isn't big enough nor strong enough to be the RB, the RB's place in the offense is mostly to block, so you need more like a FB then anything else, he left because he got lost in the mix at Slotback, plain and simple. As for St.John thats a worry for many of us, he was a great OLineman that we lost to academics. Finding a replacement can be tough but I don't we suffer on the line. We have, a few new transfers, 1 at WR and a DB from Boise State, thats all I can identify right now, there are more though.

Thanks,

To the best of my knowledge our losses include a pre-season all-american safety to grades an OL (just got out of football) and a DE due to injury. I guess we will find out pretty quickly how the loss of that safety hurt the team /users/31/07/37/smiles/700923.gif

Now that sucks, who will replace the all-american?

We are also changing our defense up a lot. They started working on that in the spring.

The repalcement for the preseason all-american safety is a 6'1" 201 lb Senior 3L (4.4 range 40 speed)

Thats good size for a safety. And even better speed, we have a FS just like thatm he's an inch taller though

http://www.goviks.com/sports/football/rosters/displayPlayer.asp?PLAYER_ID=2169

Without him we would be having issues in the secondary. Thats the thing about Jerry's Defense, its a get all or nothing defense, his schemes leave the DBs mostly on an island, they have to play 1 on 1 a lot. But Jerry's Defense will have us getting lots of sacks. If the o-line can't hold he will have a field day with any team. Jerry isn't afraid of putting 8 men in the box every play, thats pretty much what he was known for in the NFL. The LB's leading the blitz are going to be household names by the end of the year. Andrew Schantz and Jordan Senn, lucky for McNeese Adam Hayward graduated last year, just signed a 4 year deal with the Buccaneers. Only Big Sky player to be drafted.

Back prior to 2002 and prior, when our defense was very very good that's what we would do. A lots of different blitz packages and pressure defense. Of course, we had very good cover corners back then and could leave them on an island by themselves. One of them, Keith Smith, is going to be a starting corner for the Detroit Lions this season. I'd like to see us get back to that kind of defense.

The first McNeese scrimmage was very "offensive" especially if you were a McNeese defensive coach.

We can hardly wait to get at your defense. If they cant stop your offense which they should know like their own mamas, how are they going to stop us?

Believe me, we can't wait for our defense to get at your offenses as well

I am pretty sure our offense will do just fine against your defense with those 4 returning starters as well
