McNeese State Thread

Headed down to Lake Charles for the game. Any suggestions for breakfast, lunch or dinner, or hotel? I haven't decided between Lake Charles, and Sulpher.

As for the game itself, McNeese should be up at halftime. I mean, the Cowboys are at home, and the Vikings are breaking in a new offense and defense. If MSU is down at halftime, well... PSU will only get better as the game progresses. Could be tight down to the finish.

If you are talking about Saturday, just go through the Westside Tailgate area and you probably can get all three. Come by the Geauxcowboys.com tent in the Westside Tailgate area located on spots 14 & 16 on the second row and we will feed you and then take you around the tailgate area for more food.

BTW, how much are buyouts between I-AA schools like PSU and McNeese State...just out of curiousity?

I think the buyout was for $50,000 which really isn't enough because it cost more than that to make the trip.

Portland St. paid us 1/2 of the buyout ($ 25,000) to postpone the game when they picked up the big payday from Oregon. And we don't blame them for doing it. It was too big a payday for them to pass us.

Geez, that's cheap! Syracuse bailed out on a return trip to Wyoming for a game in 2009. Buyout: $200,000. Now ALL of our home-&-home contracts have a buyouy clause of $500,000 or more.

Well, that was our old Athletic Director, who just retired. I don't think the buyouts will be that small in the future. It did bite us on the ass with FIU. We went to Miami in 2004 and spent more than $50,000 doing it. Then they bought us out of the contract for the return game for $50,000. Hopefully, whoever ends up being our new AD will be smarter.

If you can get a room here, it's worth every penny.

There are 6 or 7 resturants on property, so you will not go hungry or be thirsty.

This is another choice, fun place and a little less $

Feriday's is a good steak house. But the first link is just an incredable place.

Look up the Geauxcowboys.com gang at tailgate spot 14/16 Friday night or all day on Saturday. Free food and drink.

I wouldn't be so eager to come down here right now. We are in the middle of a little hear wave. It's been 100-102 every day for a week with a heat index of 104-108. Might want to bring some of that cool left coast air with you.

You are going to have to excuse the McNeese fans if we aren't around here much in the next week or so. Right now we have our eye on Dean and the latest computer models. The models should be starting to get more accurate tomrrow and this weekend. Please wish this thing away from us. We are still gunshy after Rita in 2005(that other storm nobody remembers because of N.O. and Katrina).

You guys might be encouraged to know that some of us McNeese fans are concerned about whether or not the McNeese secondary is "gellling" as a unit. The concern is somewhat related to the offense scoring 11 TDs in last Saturday's scrimmage. I wasn't there but I've seen some concern about blown coverages.

for the Viks it sounds like an advantage and a disadvantage, The secondary struggling is a good thing for us but 11 TDs is a lot, you offense could get to us. Were you guys playing smash mouth football or are you doing this through the air?

That is a good question. The receivers are there to do it through the air but the RB position is loaded as well. Maybe we will have a better idea of what to expect after the second scrimmage in the morning and the final one next Wednesday. The DB's did pick it up during the week according to the press but that was in controlled situations.

Here's a link to the story on the scrimmage:

http://mcneesesports.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/081107aaa.html

The opening sentence:

"It only took four plays for Derrick Fourroux and Quinten Lawrence to team up and when they did they connected on a 52 yard touchdown pass that was the first of 11 tds in the McNeese State scrimmage on Saturday. "

I interpret the McNeese beat writer as saying, during message board conversations, that he suspects the secondary is having problems with the mental aspect of what they need to do. He's pointed out that they do much better in practice situations where the coaches tell them exactly what to do; as opposed to the scrimmage where they have to be more proficient at recognizing what they need to do on their own. He appears to think they are good in terms of athleticism but have a ways to go in becoming an efficient unit where everybody consistently gets their assignments right.

But...I guess that's what practice is about. Hopefully, if there is a problem, it'll be corrected or reduced before the season starts.

I think McNeese is pretty loaded in terms of speed and athleticism at wide receiver. However, as you can see, there is reason for concern about the defense.

We will have a deep and outstanding running attack, but our passing game will be the best I have seen since 1995, when we smashed about every SLC and school record. We averaged 34 points a game that year and only gave up an average of 9 points a game. That offense could score at will, and they did.

This year we have 3 returing All SLC wide Recievers, on of which is a preseason all american. Our 3rd Year QB has a new position coach that has taught him VERY well. That coach was on the 1995 McNeese team, and he says this QB has all the skills and drive to break some records this season.

I really look for us to have a balanced attack on Running and passing, but with 3 All-Conference wide recievers, with 4.2 and 4.3 speed, how can we not air it out more?
