Mind Blown - Welcome Ed McCaffrey

Well, he knows how to recruit. Been doing it in the Denver area for years

Seriously though, if you want to keep kids in Colorado, he will have great name recognition. But outside of Colorado the name won't mean much.

Whether he can coach at this level will remain up in the air. My suspicion is the results won't be much better than they were with Collins.

I honestly don't know what to think about this.

What's the worst that could happen? We go 2-10 every year?

True and I am sure it will energize the entire program. I just don't see him sticking around very long regardless of how well he does but maybe he can be a good bridge.

His son is one of the biggest NFL players right now, so that helps out for people knowing who he is. I think it all comes down to who his assistants are. I'm going to the first game, that's for sure.

According to this site, our non-conference games next season are:

09/05 - Fort Lewis
09/12 - at McNeese
09/19 - at Colorado State

It would be hysterical if we beat CSU.

We are getting serious news around this hire. I think this is the most coverage our program has received in a decade.

Well they spent 15 minutes talking about this on 104.3 The Fan Drive Time show so that's already more publicity than UNC's got since the basketball team went to the tournament...

They made a bold move for once, how can you be upset about that?

I'm excited to be honest. I didn't go to a game this year, but definitely planning on going to some next year. I think this might be a new era for this program and drive us forward.

I'm still skeptical until I see who his coaching staff is. I would like to see a number of guys like English, Armour, and Matthews stick around. McCaffrey is a big name, but zero coaching credibility so far.

He definitely needs some experienced coaches around him, but playing in the NFL, being a play by play analyst and coach at Valor for 2 years isn't anything to sneeze at.

If nothing else, having McCaffrey should stop us losing guys like Austin Ekeler to places like Western State.

I agree with him getting experienced coaches. Not sure how he could evaluate the talent we have without knowing the level of competition at the FCS level.
Regardless how it turns out, this has breathed a huge breath of fresh air into the program and you can't help but think it is worth the shot.

I know it's a slim hope, but hope anyways that his son, Luke will transfer from Nebraska to play QB at UNC.

The funny thing is that we have had NFL caliber QB's at UNC throughout this debacle of a decade.

and the last one was judged by coaching staff to be the backup until injury to starter got him on the field. :(

I think McCaffrey is going to be a great hire into this program.

Net/Net this is all positive for the school and the football program. Regardless of his coaching experience I have to believe his track record of success on and off the field will translate into improvement. My experience in sports and the corporate world is the team has to buy in to what your selling. You have to experience small incremental wins individually that bubble up to the team holistically (position coaches responsibility). McCaffrey has been a winner at the NFL level, outside of the NFL and has raised 4 boys that are competing at the HS, Collegiate and NFL level who are all winners. Last time I checked the ability to Win is not a gift like athleticism, it’s something that is learned through trial & error, coaching and self-reflection. That tells me this guy knows how to win which you cannot teach if you have not experienced it. If there is no buy in you can't win with the talent alone (see Dallas Cowboys). The Bottom Line is the team has to be confident that they can get better through the leadership of their coaches which translates to extra effort from the players (practice, weight room, classroom, etc.), which translates to the overall performance of the team. This season UNC was in most games including Washington. They could not maintain consistency through 4 complete quarters. We could not consistently execute on offense, defense or special teams. This starts with the individual player and what's done during practice. If McCaffrey uses his experience regarding what it takes to Win along with experienced staff I can't image there would not be an improvement. Time will tell..... The bar is set pretty low currently so there is only upside for the program…

Go Bears.....

Looking forward to the presser this afternoon (3:00pm Greeley time). KFKA is going to air it live. I hope someone asks him about his coaching staff.
