Montana fans crack me up.

They are morons but moving up will never happen they don't have the onions for it. They enjoy being the big fish in the small pond and wouldn't jeopardize that. Schools like Boise, Fresno, even Nevada would own them. They could compete middle of the pack to bottom with New Mexico State and Utah State.

Their 25K stadium is tops for this level but at the next level it would be smaller than everyone in the WAC except Idaho.

And they can complain about us sure, we suck, but you're going to get that in a cost contained level with smaller schools of a regional nature, it's not the WAC.

I'm tired of arguing with them. They think they're Notre Dame or USC. Screw them.

Montana will never be able to recrute the talent they need to compete at the FBS level. That level of player would not want to be in Montana. Those players want the flash and excitment and media exposurse that the larger metro areas can offer. I bet less than 10% of the current FBS players in this country could find Montana on a map. These guys all want to play in the NFL some day and know that the media is their ticket to the big show. Montana does well with the local talent, but will never be able to get the big name guys that they would need to compete at the FBS level. A school like Portland State with an enrollment of over 26,000 located in a metro area of over 1.5 million would have a better chance of moving up than Montana.

We were in a similar situation with our move from DII to IAA. I still think our baskeball arena is sub-par at the Division one level and that our football stadium is a bit small (but nice).

TBH, I think football might have been the only sport we were dominant in and that is the sport we are struggling at the most at the DI level. Go figure.

I imagine Montana would do just fine as long as they set their sights on the Nevada's and Boise State's of the world.

The last time Montana played a BCS team was Iowa in 2006, Montana lost 41-7. In 2005 they played Oregon and lost 47-14 and 2001 vs Hawaii Montana lost 30-12. Instead of scheduling a game with BCS teams as everyone else does in FCS, Montana schedules to play Fort Lewis every year. Montana has been in the big sky since 1963 the time the conference was formed and has watched as Gonzaga University, Boise State, Nevada and Idaho former big sky schools have all moved up in division. I don't think Montana will be joining those schools anytime soon.

I see what you're saying.

The thing is how does Wyoming do it, or Idaho, given Idaho hasn't had that much success. Both those towns where those colleges are located are smaller than Missoula. The fact is I think they could move up if they wanted to but don't, so they're not going to. I just hate seeing a billion threads about how the big sky needs to be strengthen, such a dumb argument. I guess I'll just learn to deal with their shenanigans.

Idaho is also saddled with a poorly designed dome that was hastily built after Holt Arena was built at ISU.

"More commonly known as the Kibbie Dome, the venue with a wooden barrel-arched roof opened in September 1975, enclosing an outdoor concrete football stadium built four years earlier on the site of the demolished Neale Stadium, seen in this early 1950s photo. With just 16,000 permanent seats, it is currently the smallest home stadium for football in Division I-A."

Wyoming has been running into issues with the meeting the NCAA's 15,000 fan mandate, too, so who knows what the future holds there. New Mexico State, I know, has been another that has problems making that lower limit that the powers that be put into place earlier this decade.

Its interesting to look back at the last 20 years in college athletics, starting with the conference shuffling that began to take place in the early 90s, and the moving of I-AA schools up to I-A to try and fill holes left when other schools shifted. Also, beginning in the late 80s, the NCAA raided the larger NAIA conferences to bring schools into D-2 (i.e. Washburn, Emporia State, Pitt State, Missouri Western, et al).

Montana is pathetic. If they're so worried about better competition maybe they should add some FBS teams to their schedule like the rest of the bigsky conference and stop playing NAIA or below average division II schools.

It's hilarious that they complain about the lack of competition and they can't even make it past the first round in the big sky basketball tournament.

One of the best threads I've ever read.

I too hate the griz, they think the world revolves around them. They complain about the same three things ALL OF THE TIME: 1) Strengthening the BSC, 2) Their schedule, 3) Moving up. It's nausiating how much time they actually spend arguing over these three issues.

Griz fans are special people, and I dont mean that in a good way, they live in a land where tree's are made out of candycanes and the rivers flow full of chocolate, their sense of reality is the same as a 5 year old's.

I almost want UM to leave, here is my reasons.

1. Their fans are ignorant a-holes who look down on others just because they have a good football team and no life, and we wouldnt have to deal with them anymore if they left.
2. They would be taking a great FCS program and turning into a lousy FBS program.
3. They would no longer be able to win their conference (WAC or Mtn West)
4. Constantly get beat by teams that are twice their size.
5. They would never be able to win or fight for a National Championship EVER AGAIN.

So I almost want them to go, cause If they moved up and all the above happened, I could sit back and laugh my butt off.
