They've just completely given up. Sad, sad, sad.
To be fair to Anderson, if Best hired a former Eastern star QB (like VA or Grubrud or something) to be OC/QBs coach who didn't have OC experience I'd think it would be kind of a bad hire at least for OC. They'd be competent QB coaches at least.E-Wu said; Man if I were AD Collins and Best tried to hire a OC with zero OC or QB experience and even zero college football playing experience, I would be like, "NOPE!" and I hate micromanaging.
Plus he is the QB coach (which I think you were alluding to). How does fc does that happen?
The sad part is there's really only two good teams left on the schedule. The rest would all be basically guaranteed wins during the glory days.I don't think we'll beat Portland State or UNC this season, either. Could be a one-win season. Worst in program history.
Cal Poly definitely isn't guaranteed either.I don't think we'll beat Portland State or UNC this season, either. Could be a one-win season. Worst in program history.
This is where I'm at. Love the guy, but we can't keep rewarding this. I'd rather not become another Portland St. with a loveable coach that will never get fired.Agreed. I really like the guy but it's time for a complete rebuild. Yeah, the game has changed, etc. but you can't tell me that a program can be highly successful for 20 years and then in the span of a couple of seasons not even look competitive. There's a lot more to it than just the portal and NIL. Look at how wretched Idaho was for so many years and then they almost immediately bounced back with a coaching change. Whatever it is that Best is trying to do with the program isn't working, hasn't worked, and isn't going to work in the future.
Even the announcers are incredulous as to how bad we are.
Portland State has the money to be irrelevant, we don't.This is where I'm at. Love the guy, but we can't keep rewarding this. I'd rather not become another Portland St. with a loveable coach that will never get fired.
I think Bobby Hauck brought in a ton of transfers when he returned to Montana as well.ewueagfan, you mentioned and I agree with what you said. There's a lot more to it than just the portal and NIL. Look at how wretched Idaho was for so many years and then they almost immediately bounced back with a coaching change.
Idaho coach Jason Eck in his first year when he turned that program around(and, in one year and the two years following. He took away scholarships away from many players and brought in 49 new players many with using portal players, transfers and NIL money. Best doesn't have the mentality to do the things that it takes,...to do the tuff things. Another example is Dion Sanders. Deion Sanders brought in 68 new scholarship players for the 2023 season at Colorado, including 46 transfers, 17 freshmen, and five junior college transfers, fundamentally reshaping the team. Other teams are utilizing these tools EWU needs a makeover.
