Montana State Game

I know we all cant wait for the Montana game on Saturday, but we need to take care of business first in Bozeman against the bobcats. I watched most of thier game last night against SUU. They are a solid team and capable of beating us if we don't come in with the right mind set. Im afraid we might overlook them. On paper we should roll all over them. Their strenght is thier guards and wing players and they are fairly deep there too. Moon, Blount, Colbert, Dison, Bigelow, Coleman, and Davis are all solid players at the 1-3 positions. I think Davis plays the 4, but he should be a 3. MSU shoots the 3 decent and are pretty athletic and quick. They were giving the SUU guards fits all night. MSU is very weak inside. They have one solid player in Englomo I think. He is pretty skinny though. I think that is where we attack them. Let Otis, Bolomboy, Tres and Hajak just beat them up and play good perimiter defense. We should own the rebounding stats in this game too. We are a very good perimiter defensive team so that plays into our advantage, We need to keep them from penetrating like Garrity did for Sacramento State. That killed us, but I think we will have it figured out for the game Thursday. I think we let them hang around, but ultimatly we wear them down with our size and depth inside. Weber State wins. 74 63

We need to come out a little more alert in this one, It could be that the players were a little tired, but we cannot overlook the Bobcats, playing in Bozeman is tough and MSU is 3-0 in conf home games.

We should win this game, but I wont be saying anything is a given till after the game.

Here's to going into Saturday's matchup at 9-0

GO WEBER

There is no way the Cats and coaches will overlook this game, every game in conference is important.

Worst part is that due to Conference rules on distances, the travel is by bus from Ogden to Bozeman, a good 6+ hours hoping the weather is ok. If the Missoula game was first, they would have flown.

I remember a few years ago when the schedule was back-to-back game days, the Cats had to travel during the middle of the night in a blizzard between the towns. A definite advantage for the home team.

Weber cannot let MSU penetrate like Sac was able to do and, ISU, and SUU. That is one area of weakness for the Cats. However, one thing those other teams had that MSU doesn't have are true bigs who can help create lanes. Veteto is a beast of a man and with Dickson's help, really helped create lanes for the guards to penetrate, especially Garrity. Eberhard also, is a hard player to match up with. I have a feeling that Royce Williams will be getting more mins in this one. Might not be a bad thing to throw Fulton in to help expand the floor for the Wildcats. Yet, really Weber doesn't need to do anything fancy. Like you said Wazzu, all the Cats need to do is be efficient moving the ball, getting it inside, having the Bobs double down and taking advantage of open, and one on one opportunities. Without doubling the Bobs have no chance. But we can't let them get out and run. Play smart, hold onto the ball, and play solid perimeter defense, and Weber will get out of Bozeman with a W.

MSU runs a four guard offense. They spread you out and try to take you one on one. They don't do as many ball screnes as UND but they have a simmilar style. If you help much on the dribble drive, they will pop it out for a three point attempt. I think we defended UND OK. However, MSU has more tallent. I don't think we are planning to zone them, as long as our Man presure D is doing the job. Both MSU and UM are taking more three point shots this year.

If it is going to be alot of 1 on 1. I am excited to see if Bolomboy can get some big blocks. I can't remember watching a more dysfunctional offensive team than North Dakota last month. If they play 4 guards I think we will be able to work em inside pretty good.

Olds, did you mean Sac?

I like how Katz would spread the floor and attack using ball screens. Sac is a better team than MSU and is a lot stronger on defense. However, MSU is quick and talented, and creates a lot of TOs. Weber has been somewhat prone to turning the ball over lately and needs to do a far better job of taking care of the ball. Can't let the bobs get any easy buckets and confidence. One area the Cats can do some severe damage is in the paint. Weber is bigger than the bobs and the Cats aren't that slow. Our PFs will be able to guard their quasi-bigs, but can they guard our bigs? I'm thinking Tres, Mook, and Bolomboy have big games. Another place where the bobs can be limited is out on the perimeter. Huse's offense depends tooo much on outside shooting to open things up in the middle. As long as the Cats keep playing their game and limit the bobs ability to hit the long ball, they should be fine.

Every year one thinks that MSU should be a lot better than what they are. Yet, every year, under Huse, the bobs underachieve. Do they have the talent to beat the Cats? Sure...especially on their home court. Will they? We will see on Thursday.

A couple of years ago I asked Kyle Bullinger how the team prepared for road trips like this. Did they prepare for both teams during the week? He said they prepared for the next game, that's it. So no prep work for Saturday's game till after Thursday's game. I heard something similar from Coach Rahe during a postgame show when asked about his upcoming opponent by Carl Arky, Rahe responded that he hadn't even looked at any film on them yet.

Tal;

I didn't get a chance to see Sac, but yes. I think Sac, UND, and MSU play a simmilar style of ball. The exception to that is MSU doesn't seem to set as many ball screnes. At least from what I saw in the SUU game. SUU could have easily won that game. They just had a bad shooting night. The thing that I saw, about MSU, is that their guards will make mistakes. They can play out of control at times. I think we just need to play sollid D and let them self destruct. :thumb:

Agreed...

One thing that is a constant problem with Huse's teams is that they don't play together.

I wish I could watch it but Bigsky Tv has not worked for me all year.

Do you have all the software required to use it? If you don't you will just get a blank screen.
