Montana @ Weber, Quarterfinal

One big key to winning this game (maybe THE key), IMO, is not allowing Montana big chunk plays (over 20 yards). I'm talking mainly about stopping the Sneed to Toure long pass completions. Toure is quick, fast, and very good at both beating his defender and getting yards after catch. This combo torched SELA over and over and got Weber twice for TDs. Corners have to play well and safeties have to be there to stop the yards after catch. Need good tackling in the secondary.

vs WSU
Sneed to Toure, 79 yds, TD
Sneed to Toure, 59 yds, TD

vs SELA
Sneed to Toure, 62 yds, TD
Sneed to Toure, 42 yds
Sneed to Toure, 25 yds
Sneed to Toure, 29 yds, TD
Sneed to Toure, 46 yds
Sneed to Toure, 47 yds, TD

Just have them watch the Cat/Griz tape guys. Toure didn't hurt us once!! :)
All ya gotta do is hit him once and he's ducking for cover the rest of the game. Just watch.

Nice to know and it makes sense that our our young and (IMO fair to say) soft secondary wasn't able to make it that simple. It was weird how UM made Weber look stupid, then the following week MSU makes UM look the same. It would be crazy fun to have the 'Cats in the ship, how about both teams make it happen?

"Playing a team a second time in a year is always a challenge," Montana coach Bobby Hauck said. "In reviewing our last game with Weber State, I don't think we played particularly well...”

Lol okay.

I agree I looked at the MSU stats and they held him to about 80 yards ... if they keep him covered he has limited options in which or front can attack... but I also think the team is hungry for this win and it will be a whole different caliber of play....

I heard there were some Weber parents who did not want their kids to play for fear they would get hurt. Just kidding. I hope every single player on both teams gets through without any injuries.

Gameday! Mid 30s and snow in the forecast. A couple local businesses have been giving away free tickets. Tickets are cheap anyway. No excuse to not show up.

Game day. Win and advance.

This game looks to be a coin flip and with the likely bad weather, it may come down to a trench war and solid consistent tackling. If the game is a defensive battle, I like Weber's chances. If the Griz are able to pass the ball, it may be a difficult game for Weber. Front 7 need to be dominant this game. Strong pass rush needs to limit the vulnerabilities in the young secondary.

Going with Weber in this one, but I hope both teams bring their "A" game and put on a good show for ESPN2.

Weber 29 Grizz 27

Montana will sell out to stop the run and try to force Jake to beat to them. Receivers and TEs need to show up big tonight.

Going to be a looong day waiting for kickoff.

I'd be surprised if that's the case. I think you'll see Montana line up in their base defense and play it pretty much straight up.

 I wasn’t implying they’ll line up in their goal line defense all night but thank you.

I wasn't implying they wouldn't do that either, but thank you.

Guess I was thrown off by "sell out to stop the run". Which they won't, so....

the only aspect of the game that I think will favor Weber is the time of possession. I think foul weather is going to favor the Griz.

How so?

your long snapper/punter have been having trouble in decent weather and I think our receivers will be less affected by it than your DB's.

I only remember one out-of-character game where that was the case. Aside from that game Weber's special teams as a whole has been quite good.

pretty sure last game against Kennesaw the punter ended up downing the ball trying to get control of the ball after a bad snap giving Kennesaw a short field.

I don't think it was a particularly bad snap, although I think it was low to where Lloyd touched his knee catching it. I wouldn't consider that anything similar to what was going on at UM. How about the rest of the Kennesaw game?
45 YD punt to the KU 23
24 YD FG
45 YD FG
38 YD punt to the KU 15
60 YD punt to the KU 18
One miscue was not the same as the out-of-character game at UM. I worry about things other than the weather or specifically the weather affecting Weber's special teams; they'll be fine.
