Yes- Rubs hurt his shoulder during warmups and Berglund is struggling with his foot injury again.

First off, the word is "acceptable." Second, since the second they joined the Big Sky, regardless of the coach, players or venue, UNC sees "MONTANA" on the front of those jerseys, craps their pants and gives up.

You can say that Montana took their foot off the gas or that the crowd lost interest if you want. It didn't look like that to me at all. I didn't see Montana change their approach after opening up the big lead. They were still playing their starters, still trying to throw the ball down field and they continued to hand the ball off to Canada at least until midway into the 4th quarter. The Bears defense simply started playing better. What these poor 1st quarters or even halves have me wondering though is if Kerr is a really bad game planner with some decent ability to make adjustments. Unfortunately, his adjustments don't happen quickly enough to keep the team from digging an insurmountable hole.
I thought Newsom played extremely well considering he was thrown into the fire at the last minute, against the 7th ranked Grizz, in one of, if not the most, hostile environments in FCS football. He made rookie mistakes, but he also did a lot of good things. I was most impressed at his willingness to throw the ball away when there
wasn't anything there. I talked to a former Weber State player who said that he hated playing at Montana
because it is so loud that you can't even hear yourself think when you are on the field.
Take out the 1st quarter and I think the Bears went toe-to-toe with the Grizz the rest of the way. A loss is a loss though and there is no moral victory in that ever.
Like Beardown said, I am more interested to see how they stack up against NAU and Sac State over the next 2 weeks.

Good post. We did play toe-to-toe with Montana for most of the game. Montana does not take the foot off the gas. That's not their style of play. Let's get the homecoming win against the Jacks!
I'll say this, considering he had basically no prep time to go up against the #7 team in their house, Newsom's performance was pretty impressive. I'd like to see him get another shot this weekend with a full week of practice under his belt.303Bear said:Well I have a somewhat different take on this game than most of you and I'm sure some of my favorite posters, and maybe even all of you, will rip me for it, but overall I thought the team showed a lot of heart after getting blown up in the 1st quarter.
