Montana

We're playing horrible, but Newsom doesn't look too bad, considering he wasn't supposed to play. We're down to our 3rd string QB

We actually made a decent field goal! I'm going to fall over.

I was stunned when he took his helmet off. He is so young looking compared to the rest of the players.

Does anyone know why our third string QB is randomly playing? Did we get two guys hurt in warm ups or someting?

Yes- Rubs hurt his shoulder during warmups and Berglund is struggling with his foot injury again.

Okay, so why did we throw the ball 21 times in the first half with our third string QB?

This game was over 5 minutes in when we were down 14 zip... The crowd wasn't even into it anymore they were half asleep. And who hurts their shoulder in warm ups? Only UNC I swear...

Although this mystery man at QB wasn't any worse than anyone else we ever roll out there.

I call him mystery man because there is not one word in his biography on the website, we know more about DB Cooper than this guy...

Never acceptable to go down by that much, that early and that fast. Just shows how unprepared this team is, put up a little bit of a fight. Pretty sure Montana took their foot off the pedal after the first 5 minutes of the game. :ohno: :ohno:

We aren't at UNI nor Montana's level. Both teams are top 5 in the FCS. I'm more interested in seeing how we match up against NAU for homecoming.

First off, the word is "acceptable." Second, since the second they joined the Big Sky, regardless of the coach, players or venue, UNC sees "MONTANA" on the front of those jerseys, craps their pants and gives up.

Thanks for the correction, I just made it, check my post for the edit. :thumb: :D

Well I have a somewhat different take on this game than most of you and I'm sure some of my favorite posters, and maybe even all of you, will rip me for it, but overall I thought the team showed a lot of heart after getting blown up in the 1st quarter.

You can say that Montana took their foot off the gas or that the crowd lost interest if you want. It didn't look like that to me at all. I didn't see Montana change their approach after opening up the big lead. They were still playing their starters, still trying to throw the ball down field and they continued to hand the ball off to Canada at least until midway into the 4th quarter. The Bears defense simply started playing better. What these poor 1st quarters or even halves have me wondering though is if Kerr is a really bad game planner with some decent ability to make adjustments. Unfortunately, his adjustments don't happen quickly enough to keep the team from digging an insurmountable hole.

I thought Newsom played extremely well considering he was thrown into the fire at the last minute, against the 7th ranked Grizz, in one of, if not the most, hostile environments in FCS football. He made rookie mistakes, but he also did a lot of good things. I was most impressed at his willingness to throw the ball away when there wasn't anything there. I talked to a former Weber State player who said that he hated playing at Montana because it is so loud that you can't even hear yourself think when you are on the field.

Take out the 1st quarter and I think the Bears went toe-to-toe with the Grizz the rest of the way. A loss is a loss though and there is no moral victory in that ever.

Like Beardown said, I am more interested to see how they stack up against NAU and Sac State over the next 2 weeks.

Good post. We did play toe-to-toe with Montana for most of the game. Montana does not take the foot off the gas. That's not their style of play. Let's get the homecoming win against the Jacks!

Taking the position that everything said in the above posts are true, if it comes down to preparedness and game time adjustments it's a victory for NAU. Hopefully the UNC players just out talent the Jacks

Bears are the Raiders of college football.

Quotes from UNCBears.com:

"We found out this morning that Rubes [Rubalcaba] had a hitch in his shoulder," said head coach Earnest Collins Jr. "He tried to work it out, but couldn't get there, so Jonathan '[Newsom] stepped up and under the circumstances, I believe he performed valiantly."

"The field goals were more about letting the kid [Czapenski] see the ball go through the uprights," said Collins. "Field goals have been a problem for this team and we need to let him get his confidence up to help us win games later in the year. We could have gone for it on 4th down in that situation, but it was more important to me to put points on the board, than walk away from that drive with nothing."

I'll say this, considering he had basically no prep time to go up against the #7 team in their house, Newsom's performance was pretty impressive. I'd like to see him get another shot this weekend with a full week of practice under his belt.

Once a team gets a big lead they will never be as mentally sharp or focused, sorry, anyone that's ever worn a jock knows this... and considering they were playing a terrible team it's without doubt they let up whether intentional or not.

But hey, if I'm wrong they will prove me wrong and go out and win a few games, right?
