National Semifinals vs. Maine Game Day Thread

EWU must be taking money as the line has moved to 11.5-12 and the over/under holding firm at 59. The weather forecast looks like it won't be a factor so plenty of excitement coming down the chute.

In all fairness, Maine has had a very tough schedule.

Only 4 scheduled home games, 1 against preseason #7 New Hampshire (before students were on campus!), and another against Villanova, where students were again gone on fall break.

Back to back road FBS games...

And yet, they still won the CAA!

Granted, JMU, Delaware, and Stony Brook weren’t on the schedule... but, the NCAA has still underrated them, considering their the only CAA team left!

Anyway, very excited for the game.
EW qb looks extremely dynamic and will probably be the best offense they have faced all year...

But...

Maine defense is probably the best defense EW has played all year as well.

What more can we ask for? Nationally televised, heavyweight offense vs heavyweight defense...

Excited to see Maine play on the RED FIELD!

White pops on the Red Turf. I think you can actually see the ball better. Watched Maine beat UNH and thought BlackBears could contend. Congrats on a good season.

Not sold on the notion that the Maine schedule was "very tough" when the team gets a pass on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place teams. 4 home games is seriously awful though and a hardship. Eastern has had pretty awful schedules in the past as well. Whatever happened has led the team to the semi finals, so not all bad.

You've got to be concerned about Maine's penalties, know there will be a neutral officiating crew, but sounds like there is propensity. Eastern's had it's share.

Eastern is as complete a team on offense, defense and special teams that Maine has likely faced this season. Certainly Maine is playing it's best ball now. That's what happens in the quarters and semi's. Just thinking this one is about Eag offense vs Maine defense would be a mistake. Know your coaches aren't looking at it that way. Eag's will be patient on offense and aggressive on defense with playmakers all over the field on both sides of the ball. These young men on both teams have shown their metal. A close contest wouldn't surprise me if Eastern doesn't pop for several big plays. Big plays and stout defense have been a hallmark of the season. Don't know if there is a stat for that except the margin of victory number.

My last thought before the slugfest tomorrow...take the points! If we are in field goal range, especially after creating a turnover, and on a 4th down, take the points. I think it could make all the difference it what very well could be a low-scoring slugfest.

Got that right. No reason to put the team behind the 8 ball or put more on EB3, OL and RB's shoulders than necessary. Take the points. Believe Eastern can score TD's but let's do it in the rhythm of the offense and not force it and reward the D with points. Team game today.

So excited to see this game... We are the luckiest fans on the planet with a perennial winner, a magnificent red field and a team who has made the semi's 5 times in under a decade.

It is sort of humorous a team that had never made a semi-final wants to deride that accomplishment. Winning in the playoff's is difficult, winning a Championship even more so.
